  1. Technically, my BIL "brought on" his own disabiity by being a lifelong smoker. He quit now, but his smoking did lead to the disease that has disabled him. I am sure that if he had known he would end up in chronic pain and relying on taxpayers and his family to survive, he may not have started smoking. But you can't go backwards and he now does need disability. I guess I view it the same way with obesity related disability.
  2. It took all of my willpower not to leave a comment. If I had left a comment, I would have said something like, "If you only have $44 a month after your rent, were you driving uninsured?"
  3. My BIL is on social security disability and he gets around $1000 a month. We cover his rent, but he pays utilities and cable/internet, which runs a few hundred a month. He also has to pay a medicare premium and another premium for state insurance. He has an old flip phone that I think he has limited minutes on. He could not begin to afford to support another person on his income, and there is no way he could afford to eat that much. I get that the folks on this show eat a lot of cheap, processed food, but even that gets expensive when one person eats 6000-8000 calories per day. Whenever I get judgy about someone being on disability, I just think, "Well, would I want to work with them?" Can anyone imagine working with Penny?
  4. Allison had so much more going for her than a lot of the addicts. I believe she had a college degree from an Ivy and her family loved and supported her. Plus, she was huffing, so there were no illegal drugs and drug dealers involved. I get that it was still really hard and she was super addicted, but so many addicts have no real support when they get out. I wonder if Allison uses compressed air on her computers? I would guess she just doesn't buy it at all.
  5. She graduated from high school and completed cosmetology school. She said she used to dream about living in CA and doing make-up for a living.
  6. It was strange that Katie actually sought out to be a drug user, convincing her parents to change her school so she could have access to drugs. No childhood trauma, loving family. She just likes drugs. As someone said upthread...yeah, she had no reason to be clean, really. She didn't have to pimp herself out or poop in the street or anything. She had a steady supply of drugs. I really felt for her mom, because she seemed really burned out and I understand losing hope. Hooray for Allison! (huff)
  7. Adults with no dependent children and no income can get a max of $190ish a month. However, there are work requirements and a single, childless person is expected to be working or looking for work through their mandated program. Thanks, Obama! They can use them at Papa Murphy's because the food isn't hot. In some states, they can get side items like col e slaw, from KFC because, again, it is not hot. I don't care what anyone buys on their food stamps. The bottom line is there are lots of politics involved with food stamps, and they are part of the farm bill. If they decided people could no longer buy soda, then Coca Cola and Pepsi would be lobbying like crazy. Sorry to go off topic, but just wanted to throw in my .02.
  8. Wouldn't Matty have been shot by his fellow cops either way? If he had gone to IA, they would have killed him. He took the money and apparently hesitated enough that they thought he might go to IA, so they killed him. Mike's advice to him, in the end, didn't matter. Matty was a dead man once he didn't immediately take his cut.
  9. I think Joe is the type of guy who refrains from making goals. Hopefully, as he loses weight, he will start to dream a little more and make some goals, like working, having a relationship, etc. I know someone who was around 500 lbs and got GBS. Before she got the surgery, she talked about how much her life would be different, but it was always in a passive voice. She did lose a few hundred pounds, but still died a few years later. He lifelong obesity just took over.
  10. I was wondering the same thing. I think Texas has pretty liberal laws about "home-schooling", though. Most states do, and let's face it..Texas is not a big education state. I felt bad about the vasectomy reversal guy. I have heard the surgery is very painful, with no guarantees. Now the poor guy is back to wearing condoms unless he wants to get another vasectomy. Poor dude.
  11. And he learned absolutely nothing from being dumped by Nissa. He blamed it on being fat, not on being an asshole. He didn't seem to really miss Nathan all that much...it very well could be that he just didn't want to pay child support. I remember the posts about his blaming his wife's murder for his rapid weight gain. But IIRC, there was absolutely no mention of him in the obituary and she was living in a FEMA trailer, dead broke. I think Chuckles hangs on to women who support him financially until they wise up. I guess if he were a gigolo I could see it, but eww.
  12. They showed the church sign that said, "Heaven Or Hell Your Choice" so I am guessing it is a hellfire and damnation style church. I am not super experienced with Christianity, but I am guessing that this church is not super accepting of gay people or others who do not believe exactly as they do.
  13. I never got where in MN the mumblers were. Jake's Pizza is not an uncommon name for a pizza place. And, again, they don't represent MINNESOTA!
  14. I think Nissa went on to adopt Nathan as a single parent. I questioned their "adoption" in the original episode, because there is no way any legit agency (or even state agency) would allow a man who can barely move to adopt an infant. I am guessing it was an informal placement, and Nissa moved ahead without him later. I didn't like Chuck, I don't like his church, and I don't like that he remarried so quickly. I suspect he will be back up to 700 pounds and yelling at Erica in a few years.
  15. I think Dillon has a great defense if he ever kills his mother, and it is on film. I have a heart of stone when it comes to people killing each other. and I would have a difficult time giving Dillon more than probation with therapy. I was a divorced mom and never got free day care, food stamps, housing, etc. Where are these goodies? Because I had to work some jobs I hated just to keep the kiddos fed and in health insurance.
  16. Open adoption is not legally enforceable. It is an unwritten agreement between the adoptive and bio parents. It seemed like B and T were starting to close it up more and more as time went on, particularly with social media. I don't blame them one bit. It was probably a mistake to allow filming even when Carly was a year old. I do hope that they get busy with Nova and stop focusing on Carly. It's creepy. I agree with the above poster who said adoption agencies owe the birth parents the truth about open adoption. They really do make it sound like the adoptive parents are not the parents. I get that they make money based on adopting kids out and not by birth parents choosing to keep them, but be honest.
  17. The baby's name is Nova. It is one of the better of the teen mom names. They didn't name Carly, Carly's parents named her. I am guessing there will be no pics until they are paid for them, but it is a little weird for Carly that she has a full sister out there now that she will (hopefully) not know until they are grown. I agree that Brandon and Teresa should close it up now. In all reality, Catelyn and Tyler will be very busy with Nova and she will probably be their focus. As it should be.
  18. Tom Coburn has blocked and voted against veterans issues for years. I love Rachel when she gets emotional. Her personality shines through all the time, but when she started crying about the Clay Hunt Veteran Suicide bill, I teared up as well. Damn him. I also love her because she explains things so well. Of course, she has a liberal bent but I WANT a liberal bent. Her piece about how the Newtown families might have a good loophole to sue the gun manufacturers was a thing of beauty.
  19. I am late to the party, but yeah, the Democrats deserved their losses. I get Rachel via podcast because (for the moment) I am in Canada.
  20. Supposedly, they start filiming in June. I am in Albuquerque at the moment, so would welcome any information on if they are filming here or in LA.
  21. My husband walked in from work while the CPS mom and the intellectually impaired dad were on. He usually doesn't get drawn in too much to the Judester (and often disagrees with her, as do I) but he just said, "Let's hope genetics aren't the only thing that forms intelligence." Yeah, poor kid. I am sure the dad does love his son, but I don't think either one of them is actually capable of raising him. Off topic: (Do we get in trouble for that over here?) It is one of my nightmares that I would have to raise my potential grandchildren. I always feel badly for the grandmas (and great grandmas!) who are raising small children because their children/grandchildren are either incapable or uninterested.
  22. Which one of the triplets did he want? The one who was born first? I am at a hotel and my internet speed sucketh, so I didn't get through the episode. I did get a tad bit irritated when he was going off because she wouldn't be working full time. Dude...you are about to have TWINS. In what world is she going to get some minimum wage job and then try to pay day care for two infants? Utah is not the most generous state with child care subsidies and such, so good luck with that. Did they ever end up getting an apartment on his $1100 a month job?
  23. What's with all the dog breeders? ADOPT!
  24. Lovely guy. But he is *also* the kind of guy who has unprotected sex an hour after meeting someone. This isn't ALL on Madison, and she is the one paying for it.
