  1. I think it's more likely this will resolve the character's money problems. I could see if, say, Oscar and Kat do end up breaking up at some point, that the possibility that Max could be about to leave coming soon after that breakup could trigger Kat to initiate something with him more quickly.
  2. Wow, I didn't either! He was much more handsome on Merlin back then, not to say he's bad-looking now. Face-wise, he's changed a great deal. Sometimes I think shows make actors look worse when they're playing bad characters, so that could be it. Edward's actor was much better-looking in the first season without that mustache... I don't mind the Clara character appearing again as much as Edward. I just assumed we would see Clara again via Charlotte happening upon her in some poor neighborhood, for example.
  3. I think the artist is interested in Lambe, but--and I could have this really wrong, I don't know--I think Arthur is misinterpreting artist guy as being interested in him. I feel like Arthur is going to end up revealing something about himself that artist guy then blackmails to get closer to Lambe. I can't quite recall everything about the Arthur character, but I do remember him saying he wasn't interested in marriage in episode 1 of the new season...
  4. I never liked him either. *shrug* That said, I had learned he wrote a song I like ("Ashes" sung by Celine Dion, the Deadpool 2 theme), so I was trying to be open to the song itself. I was indifferent to it though. I forgot about it until I was reading back now, but I remembered country guy ("Let's fire it up!" or whatever his song was). I don't know if it was just me--he was really, really cute--but he did this weird thing with his arm the whole performance, sort of like he was waving a car into the barn or something. He just never stopped doing it. I know it had to be a nervous tic, still I couldn't help cringing, on top of the fact that the song just kept repeating the same words over and over and over and over.
  5. I'm feeling a little letdown by the recent episode. Now I feel like they are setting her up to end with the father rather than the colonel. /sigh And then she'll be the mother those poor orphans need, or whatever. As much as that disappoints me since I like the colonel better, I guess that would be in line with the protagonist's tastes. The first guy who's dead now was a jerk, thefather's a jerk--she apparently likes jerks, lol.
  6. Because at the end of the day it's still a show. They know their ratings would absolutely flatline if 11 of the 12 finalists were all country artists or all R&B artists, for example. They like to have a mixture of genres in an attempt to please everyone, I believe. As for Jordin, she was singing a cappella. It wasn't perfect by her standards, but I didn't think it was outright bad either. I was surprised when somebody was singing "To Love Somebody" earlier in the show and she wasn't the counselor (that's before I realized they were sorting by genre). I just thought they'd have her advise them since that was one of her performances that was well-remembered.
  7. On that second topic, I don't feel like the two points are mutually exclusive. Tara is right that the U.S. is ultimately a moderate country and going further left is the wrong move, but Joy is right that AOC had a point that expecting the opposition or Manchin and Sinema to agree to anything was very naive on Biden's part--and that ultimately sunk the bill. I was glad they focused more on Chris Rock today. I know perhaps he doesn't want much attention from the story, to be called a victim and all that, but he was.
  8. I agree. I think Joy said that yesterday, that if he wanted to make a stateme, he should've walked out like she did years ago to Bill O'Reilly. No doubt it couldn't have been any worse. People would've still mocked him for not being able to take a joke, but the Oscar's would've had egg on their face when he was announced as Best Actor and wasn't there.
  9. Yes.... She wanted it to be clear she wasn't defending him because she wasn't defending him, regardless of Tara being an asshole.
  10. Considering Whoopi has defended Will Smith and nobody contradicts her, I don't think a producer would be blasting in Joy's ear over the matter.
  11. I didn't think Joy was defending Will Smith at all. I thought what she said was probably true, for one, and she ended on the fact that that's no excuse for an adult not having impulse control. Of course, Tara framed her as if she was excusing him anyway. I can't stand her. I don't remember them making anything about Will Smith about race, considering he assaulted a fellow Black man. I only see that from commenters here, tbh.
  12. 😉 That made me chuckle.
  13. The "jury"'s top four from the first show would've been my top 4. And I wasn't surprised when Michael Bolton's name value ended up bumping out country girl thanks to the audience vote. At least he wasn't awful, but I thought her song was much better than his. Same thing happened at the end of the show with Jordan from The Voice making it in safe. He did sing better than everyone else, but that song wasn't a favorite for me. I imagine Macy Gray has another one of the four slots on lock for the same reason. She looked wiped out, btw. Seeing really well-known people mixed in there, it almost feels like the show has no rules at all... Broderick (Kansas) had my favorite of the songs. I thought Chloe (North Dakota) and Enisa (New York) were good, too. Most of the people on both episodes so far have been very poor though, tbh.
  14. Of the people we've seen so far, my favorites were Nicolina, Noah, Fitz, Kevin Gullage, Jay, and Katyra. I still think Noah's winning this thing, nobody else stands a chance. The group that sang at the end was surprisingly good together. Jay was in that group; Kenedi was good, too.She and Christian, Tristen, and Sir Kayne have potential to go either way, I guess. Christian's vocals were really good, it's just not my favorite style. Always nice seeing contestants like Jordin, Haley, and Ruben again. I was never fond of Alaina, but she was okay. I know David Cook was one of the older winners back when he won, but wow, he's really aged. I did not care to see Chayce, fast forwarded straight through him. No offense, he always kind of grossed me out to look at even though he seems nice on a personal level. It's not like he won on singing talent or anything. I suppose he could be a reality check for the contestants that if you're not a White guy, you're out of luck.
  15. Yeah, I would have been embarrassed. He's just lucky it was Chris Rock and not Ricky Gervais who I think hosted the Oscars some years ago. Gervais would've kept it going and going (both onstage and post-show), whereas Chris Rock has better things to do than get wrapped up with a manchild.
  16. Best part of the whole show!
  17. I agreed with Sunny on Smith, how was he not escorted out by security after that? He's always been stuck on himself to me though (sort of like Justin Timberlake), so I'm not surprised, but especially since he did it to someone I really like on top of it all like Chris Rock... Chris Rock could've turned around and taken the piss out of him if he'd wanted to, have him brought up on charges, filed a lawsuit to get money out of him, etc. But Chris Rock is a better person by far. And what's worse, that asshat overshadowed how good the hosts were! Even Regina Hall was pretty funny. Loved the Golden Globes, Weinstein, and Kardashian jokes in particular.
  18. God, no. And this list looked pretty nice to begin with. At least there's Joy Friday with Ana and Chelsea Clinton to follow as the palate cleanser after three days of her.
  19. Fun show today. When they panned out, the whole audience was breaking up over Sara at the end of the pill discussion, but Joy saying you should put it in his food like a dog is what got me. That and the flashback to Nathan Lane with Barbara were the best moments today. I've seen the first eight episodes of The Gilded Age, just not the ending unfortunately. I don't think it's as good as Downton Abbey by any means (I would buy every series of that one as it came out), but it is worth watching.
  20. Is it just me or are people on the new version of this much more dumb than they were on the old one? Maybe less reflective of the show than the times, I guess. This past week was honestly the most pathetic lot I've ever seen. Especially the one guy who couldn't do basic math (17 minus 9 equals 8--he said 6) and the woman who was asked what carbs stood for (her answer was Paleo???). And anyone who asks for the question to be repeated would be the person I'd vote for to go because of how much time they waste.
  21. I wasn’t surprised at the winner of the night considering I thought his only competition was the “Loco” guy. I’d rank the KPOP star as my #3 and country woman #4 (her voice was on the weak side, but I did like the song itself). Overall, I wouldn’t say I’m crazy about the show so far. I know Snoop Dog and Kelly Clarkson were trying their best to make it work, but I’m not so crazy about it so far. I think that show from a few years back called Rising Star (Brad Paisley was one of the judges) had more potential than this one. Who knows though. Making it a state versus state competition does add a new element.
  22. Sunny was right that the reason for his low prison time was because he was a teenager though. I looked up the story myself in response to your reply, and there was also a mental illness element to the story. Those two things are why there were six years of supervision post-release. Anyway, I won't go deeper into the details because I'm not sure if it would be considered off-topic or not...? The guy's name is Wesley Hawkins for people who want to look it up for themselves.
  23. I was actually thinking this morning that this is the best panel since the Meredith / Star / Joy / Lisa panel. I like all of them other than Whoopi--and even she doesn't bother me too much these days. Quite the turn-around from the last few years when the show had reached its nadir.
  24. They talk about all forms of victims on this show, whether it's anti-Semitism, homophobia, etc. etc. Speaking of, I loved Sunny breaking down the story of one of the smears about future Justice Jackson today--the story about a LGBT teen. I suppose I could've looked up the details of these cases myself, but I just usually accept it's a lie and move on considering the source behind the smear. This. And I recall what Sunny said in response was, "They're banning those books, too!" And she's right, any book with a Black author or a Black protagonist is getting banned, so good luck Lindsey finding one for her child when she's supporting race-based book bans. What a sell-out. I think something stands out more when the subject bothers you.... I personally don't think Sunny talks about Black issues any more than I would talk about gay issues as a gay person, for example. It's a part of her identity, she can't separate it from herself. Not much different than Elisabeth's "As a Christian...!" or Sherri's "As a mother...!" But at least Sunny doesn't repeat a phrase like they would do, lmao. Lindsey talked over the others much more than they did to her. IMO, Sunny started returning the favor the second day, which I'm fine with. I would do the same thing if someone screams over me or at me; usually if someone wants to play the loud equals right game, I just keep getting louder and louder and louder... It's the only thing that works with those types. Like it is with a child, once they learn they can't simply out-scream somebody, they usually stop.
  25. Sara had the best comments in the first segment actually, by pointing out that religion was relevant to ACB's nomination considering there were questions her religious extremism would be used to subvert the law and ban equal rights (abortion, same-sex marriage, etc.) simply because she disagrees based on her religion regardless of the law and precedent. Whereas, as Sara said, bringing up religion here with Jackson where it has no relevance to anything, only an attempt to paint her as if she's not a Christian or something when she is. Sunny was great in the second segment, deliberately calling out the guest for parroting racist talking points. They might as well have Stacey Dash on the show, lol.
