To be fair, Barkley was not available, but to be fair to the Niners, they'd probably crush New York with Barkley. Similar to Washington, the Giants are rebuilding

Just when I thought NFL Nation spoke too soon, so did I.

Looks like Buffalo might have taken care of a blown game. Really, the Bills could not have done it any better, maybe as a tribute to Atlanta!

As much as I'm being sarcastic, I am serious. In other words, it's a combination of both. It could be a coincidence, but based on the past (and the future), I think it's fair for people to question the timing of some decisions. For example, they updated the rules protecting QBs whenever Brady went down Season 89, Week 1 (2008 season). It was rather unnecessary, but it was legal and fair enough at the time. Three seasons earlier, Carson Palmer suffered an even worse injury in a much, more meaningful game. That was also legal at the time, but if that happened today, it would've been much more blatant than what Pollard did with Kansas City against New England. Nothing changed in 2005-2006. To be fair, New England has struggled against Baltimore, a team that has been known to mess with other teams and fool them with several trick plays. As soon as New England did that at a much higher level against Baltimore a couple seasons after their demise in 2012, the NFL changed the rules at their expense. There is favoritism amongst teams in all sports, Johann. It isn't really blatant, but if it's borderline, or if the star of a league suffers, then that league will do anything it takes to prevent that from happening again. That being said, I do agree about the end of games and how a bad call is more of an excuse and less of a reason why a team losses a game they had won. In fact, I'm a bid time supporter of that. I've said in the past that teams need to blow out other teams (if not separate themselves) to secure victory. I have had backlash with that due to keeping things competitive for maximum interest, but it's no crime to win by (at least) twice the spread. Who wants to have a game come down to something unusual? Despite all of that, the end of that Green Bay & Seattle game was just not good. They would've changed it regardless. New England blew a two possession lead in 2012, but Seattle was actually dominating Rodgers and company. Both teams were playing great where it was anyone's game (not much offense). As for Atlanta? They might be playing for Trevor Lawrence, but it's a matter of when, not if, in terms of Danny Quinn's survival

IIRC, the night before, New England fell victim to a bad call by the replacement refs. It was a foregone conclusion that the regular refs would be coming back. Those awful calls took away wins from two of the best QB's at the time in addition to the best coach in the sports history at the time (and currently, and maybe going forward!)

Basically the winnings in the first half and second half were reversed. Unless he hit $100,000 and a spin, that bonus round wasn't that exciting, thanks to the whammy. BTW, the lose the whammy decision with only one whammy was the absolute right call whereas it probably wouldn't have been within the history of PYL. She needed to get into 2nd place otherwise she had nearly zero chance of winning. She played it right and if Theo hit a wammy when she passed, she would have won. If she passed early there would have been a higher chance Theo wammied and unless he kept getting extra spins, then 2nd place would have won not her. The 2nd round had so little spins earned compared to past shows so it really limited the strategy. Exactly. Given I was doing something else, I was saying, "Wow, she came to play. Wonder why she's spinning so much. But seconds later I remembered that you're not crowned a champion as a second-place finisher. In the event that Theo was passed 5 or more spins and couldn't avoid the whammy, he would need to hit one right away so that he could have a chance to catch up and still win with proper strategy. Sure $100K is gone, but that is offered in the bonus round (at the time I didn't know that he'd sorta bomb out in the end game). Similar to A-A-ONE, Double your bucks and a spin were part of the original series. I don’t ever recall anyone hitting Add-A-One in the original version either when $10,000 was won prior to that. Granted it was only around for a year. The thing is that the CBS limits were $25,000 and $50,000 during PYL’s 80s run, so in the event that someone would have hit five digits in the first half, they probably would have taken A-A-ONE of the board. I think five figures have definitely been won in first half, but as mentioned, it’s difficult. Not many money and a spin spaces in Round one. If someone were to do it in the 80s, they would have to accumulate a lot of spins (not easy) and hit the big bucks about 6-7 times. Both are possible, but what’s more likely is doing both while hitting a whammy in-between that run. I used to love the A-A-ONE back in the day, even during the USA airings. Personally, I could take it or leave it. I was pleasantly surprised that it was hit to get to a total exceeding $100,000 (though I feared that a whammy would wreck that historic moment). From there I think it was a mistake to remove it from the board. I think it should’ve been made available for the other contestants. It’s cash, not a car or some other prize. That way it opens the door for someone else (or everyone) to hit it for six-figures. That, and I won’t have to root against a contestant that has no shot at winning short of a whammy costing the leading contestant money that he or she won’t reach, win or lose

Kathie Lee & Ricki were rather familiar even before 2008, especially Lake given her background in the Game Show world. They probably would've done very well without their appearance on the NBC version. It does help but it's not automatic. For instance, Louie Anderson actually hosted for 3 years (albeit the worst era of the show) but lost as a contestant (though he & his team got unlucky in defeat). Man, imagine if Kathie Lee and Ricki Lake didn't face each other, but instead faced one of the teams from the second half of the show. As mentioned, Steve was definitely more energetic. I could do without people that don't know how the game works or struggle with it

Merylinkid, I'm sorry, but honestly for at least a second, I actually thought that Mark's mother stopped him from going to the game last night (instead of or in addition to a game when he was eight)! I later came to the conclusion that Davis was unable to make it due the the current climate, amongst other things. I don't usually do delivery; that was the case even before the pandemic. I probably would feel more at ease picking something up myself so that it's not in someone's car that may or may be properly "sanitized" for safety reasons. Nevertheless, people should be paying me to order stadium food for delivery!

I'll be honest: if the Los Angeles wins the NBA Finals I'll agree it'll be sad that it wasn't at Staples. That being said, I probably would've kept that to myself. Now is not the best time. Maybe I'll be more sympathetic if this is the case next year, but nope. At least the league is operating! By the way, winning the title on one's home turf is not automatic. Not a long shot, but the odds aren't that great. Assuming the Lakers even go the distance

There are a lot of people that cannot wear a mask properly, and I hate it. Therefore, I'm rooting for people to get fined if, say they think they're wearing it properly, but really they are not because it only covered their mouth. As mentioned, why bother wearing one if that's how you'll display it

It also depends on what Pat Mahomes does. Lamar could dominate again, but I think he'd have to top what he did last year to make the case of a back-to-back MVP winner. Mahomes at least, is a year removed from the title, so we'll see. Kansas City does have some tough games coming up, including games against New England, Baltimore, New Orleans, and even Tampa & Buffalo. Man, one thing I thought of given the most recent Seahawks/Patriots matchup (other than the fact that Al & Cris always get to call these games) is that Russell is or was one iota away from being 4-0 against Bill Belichick. Still, I don't think there's anyone on Planet Earth that has a 75% winning total against him with a minimum of 3-4 games

IIRC, Jeopardy moved to a quarter million in 2002. It's a Million for special tourneys that involve Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. With other gameshows, it's actully much, much less. Likey $10K - $50. And those are shows that are one-and-done (no returning champions). If you were referring to Millionnaire and the like, that's fair. Jeopardy should offer $1,000,000 for the annual champion. It's not an easy gameshow, but it's totally awesome & competitive and one should be rewarded as such. With Wheel, that's easy, but easier from home compared to being on stage. Not a fan of the Million Dollar Wedge, but an indefinite tournament for someone to win a million would be a better route to take
-
With it being $38,000, there's really isn't a reason to have $50,000 when you could add $75,000 (or $76K, twice the amount). While they're at it, the $100,000 used whenever that $1 Million prize does not come into play should be bumped up to $150,000. While there's talk of Alex leaving Jeopardy, it's the home stretch for Pat as well (and maybe even Johnny & Vanna). I don't know if I'll bet on major changes until everyone exits within 5 years Agree re: teachers. I though Jeopardy was already bumped up recently. I think, depending on the total, the grand cash prize is okay, but I don't think I'd say "No Thank You" to more money!

While that meltdown was fantastic, I have to admit that I was rather pleased to see him win today. Looked like the results of his transformation meant nothing after not succeeding at the PGA Championship, but the US Open was perfect for him to finally win for the first time (in a major). Not sure how he'll do in Augusta or going forward, but man, it was a great display from Bryson, IMO

Very awful news for those involved within the Patriots organization. All the best for James White and family. While Bill's mother had a great run, I have no idea of what the cause of death was. Doesn't matter. As has been quoted by John Donne, "Any man's death diminishes me." With this cases for James White and Coach Belichick, it's any person. Rest in Peace.

The premiere date of October 14 was made final, with a season finale in mid-December. To be fair, Season Six was also "made final" only for them to move it from September 25 of that year to after the election during November Sweeps. That move occurred shortly before TAR5 Finale which was September 21 of the same year. That said, I wouldn't bet on the season being moved. In life there are no guarantees, but in 2004 there were no strikes or work stoppages nor was there a pandemic

Yes. They could be the Jets. Or the Browns. At least New York won the Big Game!

Atlanta blowing a big lead, IMO, is the new Buffalo Bills and their special teams nightmare from a previous era. I didn't follow the Giants game that much (I'm actually tuning into the US Open during the period of all the sports at the same time). I did hear about it and saw an image of him being carried off, and I was not happy. Wasn't sure of the injury, but before the fears set in, I didn't for once think it was a minor thing where New York was being cautious for their star RB. That sucks for the Giants, but I though Barkley was in danger last Monday against Pittsburgh. Speaking of which, New York is coming off of a short week playing a Sunday afternoon game following a Monday night game. This in a season where injuries are slated to occur more often than the norm
-
That's a 17-point lead. That would hardly be choking it away, in my humble opinion. As it's now a 19-point lead, it would be more tradition than unprecedented for Atlanta. Though it is Dallas!

Lebron is totally emulating MJ. Though I think he totally deserved it this year. The Lakers were nothing without him, and given how he made it to the end series of a postseason consecutively throughout most of the past decade with teams that were drafting the Top Pick or close enough to that without his services, I can’t blame him. However, I don’t think it’s a big deal in the NBA. Maybe in baseball, possibly in the NFL, and really not so much in the NHL. No one cares or should care about a league MVP when the focus are the rings. Plus it was debatable between him and Giannis for awhile prior to the shutdown

I think it was the combination of money and testing. The money was always there for the Big 10, but to an extent. No spectators meant not much coming in. Without testing that would increase liability. I don’t think the leaders in the Big 10 would want to deal with a lawsuit and a case that they would likely take the L in. But man, that’s five weeks down the road, still time for something to occur that will result in the Big 10 changing their minds

It is airing this Sunday at 7pm before the Emmys. Not sure why they're not waiting for Thursday when the show resumes with first-run episodes. I guess it's fitting since Ray's show was an Emmy monster during its run Looking forward to the Ray Romano episode, and it appears to be two contests within the hour. That is great news. Probably would’ve skipped it outright if it was dragged on for an hour. However, it’s opposite football so I’ll probably have to catch the Garrett/Romano show later (along with the Emmys)

It is, isn’t it? Regardless, it’ll be more than weird when the show returns next month to an empty studio audience. Per Drew, there will be no fans. IIRC, Bob did use the bid on dollars line on several 80s episodes and some 90s ones. Can’t recall him saying it much if at all in his final 6 seasons as the host! The rules for the SCSD and the Showcases got explained every-so-often throughout his run, however, with the former being explained in one-half of the show but not really in the other half. The explanation of the rules to those degrees is unique to see. Though I’ve often thought of him having to explain the rules in Y2K episodes of pricings games like Hit Me and Check Game (both of which had been around for 2 decades). Amazing that, more often than not, the contestants that often play those games without ever seeing the game or knowing the rules always win the One-Bid segment that precedes it to get out of contestant’s row

It appears that new episodes are starting on October 5th. So that pretty much coincides with repeats continuing during the Week of September 28th. On the other hand, Wikipedia has the new season set to start on 09/28/2020, which isn’t accurate. That’s possibly due to the fact that it came from Wikipedia; IMO it’s misleading because there have been GSN promos with Steve Harvey that plug “All New Episodes” starting on 09/28/2020 at 10 PM EST (pushed back an hour). I haven’t seen any advertisements of first-run episodes (the current season within a particular year) moving from its current channel to GSN, so I think it’s probably just Season 21 being added to the GSN line-up

The $100,000 Pyramid - General Discussion
Carey replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The $100,000 Pyramid
Looks like it’s mid-season for the return of the show. It would’ve been nice to see it back by mid-November, but it’s a smart play for the show. While I’m old-school and miss those tough tourneys to win $100,000 (complete with the studio-storm), I missed the show as well. Even with some optimism that things may trend back to normal, it won't be even throughout next spring. Maybe the journey back to a normal TV schedule starts next summer and from there a regular TV year for 2021-2022. The good news is that a mid-show start results in less competition and conflict for the Pyramid
