  1. The white grout on that dark, “handmade-look” tile looked terrible. If it had been a dark grout it wouldn’t have made the imperfections in the tile stand out.
  2. All he had to do was NOT include that date (looked like it was duct-taped) on the pants and he could have kept the original model. I hate watching shows that make me feel worse for watching them—this episode was just ugly in all respects.
  3. I enjoyed the OK episode because I lived in Edmond for a few years when my kids were very young. I would pack up my house today and move back there tomorrow if I could. Great place to live. The people are great and OKC is a fun little city. And it’s true about the woodwork in the houses there—every builder puts in tons of storage cabinets and bookshelves as a matter of course. I don’t think there is such a thing as an Oklahoma accent. I never noticed it in my 7 years of living there. Shoot, here in Texas it’s rare to hear a Texas accent anymore!
  4. The new animated logo really reminds me of the Criterion Channel’s logo. I’m surprised the two are so similar.
  5. Sunday 9/5 sees 3 of my favorites: Surprised by Love, Bridal Wave, and Wedding Every Weekend. SBL and WEW I watch almost every day when I’m doing household chores. “Something on your mind, DICK?” (SBY) My favorite line in Hallmark history.
  6. I admire Ozu very much, so I recorded all of the movies shown on Friday. I’ve watched all of them except for Tokyo Story, which breaks my heart every time I watch it.I have to be in the right frame of mind for that one. That said, it is one of the best movies of all time, IMO.
  7. Absolutely! I hope that the remaining chefs agree not to help anyone else with any component of their dishes in the finale. Win or lose based on what YOU can do with YOUR time allotted.
  8. Who on earth drizzles liquid over fried chicken? Gross. What a cop-out move, Kiki.
  9. Kay Francis is a personal favorite of mine, but I especially like her as the baddy in In Name Only.
  10. You made it farther than I did. Knowing a little something about the world of fashion/design, it was too off the mark for me to bear. I ditched it after the female lead first visited the residence and met the mom (?) and weird grandma (?). The actors (all of them) played their roles as if they were actors playing actors playing characters. Never a “real” intonation, phrasing, response. No thanks. This business of not even trying to make it real is why I just can’t with period movies/series, like WCTH. Just the lack of (historical, but really any kind of) accuracy makes me crazy.
  11. The lead actress in SnowComing (Lindy Booth) looked a decade older than her love interest (Trevor Donovan), plus the chemistry was just. not. there. Completely ruined a movie that I thought had potential, plus some big names ( Ed Marinaro, Joe Theismann). Her eyebrows bugged me so much that I don’t think I’ll watch any of her movies.
  12. On to Sylvia Sydney day! I really enjoyed all of her films TCM featured this week. Thirty Day Princess was a cute rom com with an early appearance by Cary Grant (I think they lacked chemistry, but were both gorgeous) and Sabotage was great, of course. I can see why audiences back then were taken aback by the bus scene, but I loved it.
  13. My take on Norma Shearer is that she was great in silents, but the transition to talkies was tough on her. Not because her voice wasn’t pleasant, but because, especially in her early talkies, her gestures (facial and hands) are still over-emphatic, as they had to be in the silent films. I noticed it particularly in Private Lives, which seemed really rushed and frantic overall.
  14. I have to agree. We fly first on AA frequently and will almost always skip the food service, because it’s flat-out gross. I’ll only eat a cheese plate (if there are any left by the time the attendant gets to me; seems like everyone only wants the cheese plate lol).
  15. So either Kevin or Gregory gets auffed next episode? I can’t imagine that the judges won’t hold them each responsible for how the restaurant is run. This kind of bothers me.
  16. My finger was cramping from hitting the fast forward 10 sec.button so much the last two episodes. Good grief, how many times can they have E and J say the same things over and over and over? I think I’ll reserve judgement on whether or not Jonny’s employees were really slaves in sweatshops, because without details it seems unjust. By the way, it looks like Sander posted some of his finale looks on his Instagram:
  17. I just finished watching this on the app—such a great story! I’m really glad that Danny Devito and others felt compelled to honor the work of this couple in a way that would introduce non-insiders to the incredible contributions that their work was. Two ordinary people who lived ordinary (and extraordinary) lives!
  18. I’m pretty sure that designers (or the corporations that own their names) have junior staff that do the ‘dumbing down’ of their runway looks. You know Michael Kors isn’t bothering with that crap they sell at Macy’s lol. Sander just doesn’t see the need to dilute his vision; I like it that he’s giving the big middle finger to TPTB at Amazon and MTC.
  19. I am also on Team Sander. I think he’s hilarious and easy-going, personality-wise, and creative and artistic (and he can actually sew!) design-wise. And he’s right—he shouldn’t have to make an accessible look if he doesn’t want to. Will he win the challenge? Doubtful, but they won’t eliminate him if he makes beautiful clothes. He stands out to me as the only competitor that could have something new to say in fashion. I love that I can 10-second fast forward through the Heidi and Tim dating segments. Next who needs to go? Probably Ji, I think she’s in over her head. And I wouldn’t be sad to see Blackhole Esther leave either.
  20. The music is terrible. I want the next challenge to be a print/anything but black challenge. 2 episodes and I’m sick of black already. Couture in TWO DAYS. I hate that they want to inspect a fabulous design (the woman from Kansas) and hate on it being imperfect when they have two freaking days. Nicole Ritchie is a breath of fresh air and is the only judge I like so far. She’s just so pleasant.
  21. 1. I mean, I understand that they can’t put all those seamstresses on camera ($$), but to have them not collaborate at all with the designer is just dumb. 2. SO MUCH FILLER! 3. SO MANY SPOKEN EXCLAMATION MARKS! 4. I am a fan of the quiet, older Italian guy. His vibe is so refreshing in reality TV land. Sort of Great British Baking Show-esque.
  22. Could this whole battle have been In Bjorn’s head/imagination as he’s sitting on the beach? He’s thinking about how Ivar will attack and playing through various scenarios while sitting there? That’s the only way I can think of any of this episode making sense.
  23. ExcEpt WiTh EdGy SeXy reFErEnceS 🍆💦🍌👀👅🖕
  24. I love period tv/films and Jane Austen. I’ve watched all the adaptations of P&P, MP, S&S, etc. The thing about Sanditon that pisses me off is that they get SO MUCH SO WRONG about the period details. If you want to sex it up and modernize it, just set it in modern times. And for heaven’s sake, don’t attach Jane Austen’s name to the result. I feel like it disrespects her fine body of work to be so cavalier with the setting and details. The weird music at the “ball” (in quotes because they really cheaped out on that scene), the shimmery lip gloss that notElizabeth wears, the hairstyles, the constant drinking, the lack of manners and social graces (that were the heart of all of Jane Austen’s work)—all are just so confusing to me as someone who watches costume productions to see a semblance of authenticity. I am not surprised that a second series did not get picked up in the U.K. I imagine that most viewers there were not amused either. That said, I will continue to watch, like I would a comedy or train wreck. How bad can it get??
