At the moment, the weirdest thing that could happen in the men's final is both players show up and calmly, straightforwardly, just play the damn match with professionalism and sportsmanship.

I thought it had entirely to do with financials. If you play representing Russia, you're entangled with the Russian tennis federation. If you play representing a different country, you're not.

If it comes down to Nick and Novak, I will indeed root for Nick. I won't watch, but for me at the moment, he is a lesser of two evils. But um, yeah, go Norrie? As to the retire in the Q vs after (btw I don't feel strongly about this either way but am genuinely curious what people think): What's the difference between "don't give it to Taylor, make him earn it" and pushing through that match, possibly making it worse, and then giving it to Nick, who also did not have to earn it? I mean, other than the prize money, which let's be frank, is chump change to Nadal. No points either for this one. I'm not saying I think he should've retired during the 5th set against Fritz, but to me if you're injured and sure you can't play the next match, and don't need the prize money, and aren't getting any points, I'm not sure I see a significant difference in bowing out at the point where no matches get skipped entirely vs fighting to win one and then bowing out and giving the next person a walkover. Of course, if he couldn't tell until after the fact that nope, definitely not going to be better in 36 hours, then sure. That makes sense. I'm wondering specifically about the hypothetical where a players knows they can probably make it through the final set but wouldn't be able to do any more.

I've seen City bus most frequently. The streaming services all use autocaptioning so it hears what it hears. The TV feeds get the names of the people in advance so they're usually right - or at least get corrected a second or two later.
  6. I don't know how to read this show anymore. I mean, I know Ru wants over the top over acting in these challenges, but I've always thought there was intentionally-over-the-top and bad-acting over-the-top and they wanted the former and not the latter. To me, Raja in this challenge was very much the latter. I also thought what The Vivienne did (especially some of the facial stuff) was probably hilarious to see in person, but in the actual scenes didn't really work. The editing to make the scene show what is needed to show meant you either missed some of that - or the moment dragged in order to let you see it. That said, I don't know who I thought should've won. They were all adequate. No one was amazingly more hilarious than another. Jinx is wonderful and made that character something out of practically nothing, but the writing was still meh enough that I wouldn't put her on top. Shea had the difficult task of playing the normal one, and did it well, but who gets rewarded for being the normal one? No one. And Trinity was funnier when she actually had trouble reading the script than when she tried to repro that by actually doing the character.

Normally when tanking is uncovered it's because someone was paid to do so (often bookies).

Drop shots are difficult to do effectively. Underhand serves are...underhand serves.

Does he underhand serve just to mix it up and theoretically confuse his opponent or was he injured in some way and that's all he could muster?
  10. Those are rally caps, hence the name of the ad. If you're hoping your team will rally (come back from behind/take the lead), you turn the cap inside out. That's called "rally cap". It's sort a symbolic hopeful not-really-superstitious-but-I-can't-think-of-a-better-word thing. In the context of the ad, I think the premise is, the game is tied, the woman is hoping for a rally (she puts on her rally cap); the guy sees her do it, does it too. They're having a moment. Also their team then takes the lead. But she suddenly wants a taco and despite all that stuff which presumably should've been more important to her, she leaves and goes to get the taco. Hence the tag at the end.
  11. Probably one day of work and a year worth of residuals on top of whatever base they gave him for the initial shoot? Why not.
  12. That's what I thought the first episode I saw with only 2, because it was the case in that episode. But subsequent episodes had all 3 on the volcano, despite only 2 finishing the course. Hence my question.

She's a "big name" in the sense of being a famous person, no that she's a major factor in majors right now.
  14. I was not impressed by the The Vivienne's girl group performance. To me she wasn't so much taking the piss out of stereotypical things Americans think about British people as she was simply listing them. I didn't find it funny. And weren't they supposed to be pretending it was 2002 or something? She mentioned Brexit in her Carson Gayly interview. I thought she should've been dinged for that. That said, I wasn't super wowed by any of the group stuff. It was all kind of meh. I did very much appreciate the Vivienne completely nailing Dolly's mannerisms, not in an exagerrated charicature way either. Those movements and facial expressions were precise. I like Raja in general but it's been less than 24 hours since I watched and I can't remember a damn thing about her in this episode besides the other competitors expecting her dancing to be shit.
  15. This is the reason Bianca has given for not wanting to do AS in several recentish interviews.
  16. I was a bit underwhelmed by most of the speeches. None was bad, which is a nice change of pace. But to me, none really blew it out of the water either. They were all fine. I laughed outloud at least once at everyone. But, I donno. No super obvious heads above the rest winner here for me. I don't disagree with the actual winners, but this challenge didn't seem as clear cut as some of the others. For the first time, to me it felt like the runway really did help put people over the edge.
  17. This is getting off topic since it's about the animated show. Please move on.
  18. Even though there's a ton of travel elsewhere during the season, the pattern seems to show that reducing extra flight duration and time difference home is high priority. So having > 50% of games on this end of the country at least seems to be a major factor. Obviously, individuals are individuals, but the trend with Japanese players seems to favor west coast teams. Plus when Ohtani started there was no DH in the NL.

For future reference, linking to the article rather than reposting it is the appropriate course of action, regardless of length of the article in question.
  20. Fun with the Padres' feed closed captioning: Just before the game, umpires explaining "the grumbles" to Buck Showalter (ground rules) The Mets catcher has been repeatedly called Tomas "Neato" (Nido) I can tell I'm exhausted because normally this would not amuse me, but I'm cracking up like a baby who just saw someone wink for the first time.
  21. It's driving me nuts that there seems to be no particular pattern to why there are sometimes 2 people from each team on the volcano and sometimes 3. At first I thought it had to do with how many finished the course, but that doesn't seem to be it.
