  1. On the topic of earplugs, I recommend Loops. I have "Experience" for concerts, and "Engage" for work. They also have "quiet" to block all noise. The Experience Plus and Engage Plus also come with a "mute" accessory" to block all noise. If you buy from their website they have a 100 day trial, if you buy from Amazon, it's the standard 30 day return policy. I've bought regular watermelon that has the black seeds. Just be sure you aren't buying "seedless" of any variety and you should be golden.
  2. I just assume that Nicolas Cage exists in that universe and had that covered. Not his character in the National Treasure franchise, but actual Nicolas Cage.
  3. I really liked it! It's nice to have TWD back on my TV for a Sunday night wrap-up. Obviously Lauren and JDM are safe but I'm worried for the Jr. Marshal and the new "safe haven". It was nice seeing Neegan actually scared when he saw they were on Manhattan. Did Maggie say he wasn't going back to Ginny? Edit: Jr. Marshal had pills he claimed are for his faux-grandmother. Wasn't the CRM dolling out pills in World Beyond and that's how they cohersed some of the people into working for them? I didn't find it too dark (I also didn't have issues with TWD and I don't have issues with other shows).
  4. If you don't want to spend money on Bose, Beats, or Sonos I recommend these. I wear them when I fly and I can't hear the engine noise. Pre-COVID I wore glasses* when I flew and don't recall being uncomfortable. *My vision didn't get better, I just switched to contacts to prevent my glasses from fogging when wearing a mask.
  5. Omg. Didn’t know that was a mode. My parents must have their tv on that setting. I hate their tv!
  6. My friend had to do this when applying for an IT position. Their end game was to gauge his documentation, presentation, and training skills. I can't remember what it was for, but I did ask (because of the situation emma675 shared), and it was for a common scenario and he wasn't creating any groundbreaking info for them to steal. That is a huge issue! When I was utilizing some of the Reddit recruiting subreddits people would talk about that happening. Same with code "homework".
  7. I laughed, I cried, I smiled. I'm so happy this show is back. I loved Dean's friendship with the neighbor, and Bill realizing he was wrong about the neighbor, putting his comfort aside to learn more, and ultimately forming a friendship that led to his music success.

    NHL Thread

What a game. I moved to Vegas earlier this year, and while I'm not giving up "my team", I was actively rooting for the Knights. The way Vegas adopted hockey and became a hockey town is amazing.
  9. For those casually following along with the Reddit situation, it's not over. Many communities are staying private or dark. From Mashable (it's a good article, I suggest you read it):
  10. For those of you interested in learning more about what is going on with Reddit. The entire saga can be viewed here. This is a snippet of the start Here is the thread from Out of the Loop (they are participating by going "read-only" so things like this can still be visible and shared). This was part of an announcement in one of the Subreddits I belong to (not r/Blind) with more info.
  11. I think (and I'm no expert) the blackout is dependent on the potential impact not just to Reddit, but to the sub-reddit community.
  12. The blackout is a lot more nuanced than that. No one is saying Reddit shouldn't be able to make money. Their plan is poorly planned and short sighted. Forums such as r/blind will be negatively impacted because the third party screen readers aren't going to be able to be used. That's just one example. Maybe the demographic of the sub-Reddits I'm in is different, but no one is calling this a childish protest. There are very real issues and concerns with the changes Reddit wants to make and the incredibly negative impact it will have on various sub-Reddits.
  13. Book club is a good idea. My local library hosts a free one unless you want to buy the book. There are social sports, volunteering, board game nights at a local game store, pub trivia...
  14. No personal experience but if you have the option to go with it, please, take advantage of it. The hospice workers will take the burden off of you, so you can be present with your mother. I'm sorry you're going through this.
  15. Costco had an Apple Plus deal - $63/yr. Target also has a free Apple Plus deal through their red card (credit or debit) though it may only be for new subscribers.
  16. If you know where she lives call the local PD and ask them to do a wellness check. You can also poke around their SM and find family to ask if they are OK, or see if they have had recent activity. They could also be on vacation, busy with work / life, or just taking a break from socializing, or her phone could be broken.
  17. This, too, 100 (times a million). When said person tells the other they aren't interested, the 'interested party' needs to accept that, and not take that as an invitation or sign to try harder to win them over. They can choose to remain friends (and just friends with no ulterior hopes or motives) or walk away with a clean break.
  18. Ohh! Thank you! My Chase card has a $3 'cash back' and Rakuten has $6 back. So I just got myself Peacock for $11. :D
  19. I thought it was only for a year? I lost access when I moved but I could have sworn the free access was for the first year.
  20. I tried to add this to my post last night but I was so late I guess I never submitted it. I also want to call out that the women he was chasing to hook up with? Also not a conquest or someone to manipulate. They wanted different things? He lost interest, they lost interest? People parted ways as you do in life. Never once have I heard "man, TRH, I spent so much money and time on so-and-so because I knew I could win her over to date (or sleep with) but she just friend zoned me. I'm such a "nice guy", I do all these things for them, why won't women date me? I'm tired of being "friend zoned" after all that effort ".
  21. The "friend zone" isn't some bucket women place men who aren't "aggressive" enough (or what reason they tell themselves). The "friend zone" is a place men put themselves when they realize a woman they feel entitled to date because they're doing all sorts of things to curry favor, or make her feel some way, isn't interested in dating them. One of my bestest friends is a dude. When we met he was hooking up with anything that moved. Never once did he put moves on me. Never once did I ever wonder if the drink he bought me when we went to the bar to watch a sportsball game was to make me feel obligated to sleep with him. Never once did I worry that an invitation to his home to chill had an ulterior motive. Never once did I worry about my safety around him when I drank too much. We could sleep in the same bed and I would not have any level of concern he'd try something. Because he is interested in me as a person, as a friend. I wasn't a conquest, or someone who could be won over, or manipulated, or someone who owed him because he is a "nice guy" (don't get me started on self proclaimed "nice guys"). I'm grateful he is not a dude who put women who didn't want to date him or hook up with him into the "friend zone" because we wouldn't be friends. I have an amazing friend who I consider family. We'll be friends until the end.
  22. Yep. Massive fires used to be every 3 years, then every 2 years and now fires large enough to form their own weather system are yearly. Between arson and lack of climate change action it's not going to get better.
  23. Printers are so inexpensive now. HP inkjets can frequently be found on sale for $50 - $60. If it's within your normal gift-giving budget you can give these people a printer as a gift. A computer is no longer required for printing. I can print to my home printer via WiFi from my phone via the HP SmartPrint app.
  24. No, I clearly remember this happening at McDonald's. They never served Pepsi. In addition, I ask that you don't dismiss my experience and memory because it differs from your experience.
  25. Yes, I heard "pop" but when I'd go out to eat and order a Coke they asked what kind of Coke I wanted but they weren't asking I I wanted regular or diet, it was Coke, Sprite, Orange, or whatever else was available.
