When Leo DiCaprio was seen "vaping" at one of the awards shows, Whoopi said on the show that day she also vapes now instead of smoking. I don't think she mentioned that in the smoking segment today. Vaping & eCigs are nicotine delivery systems that work the same way as smoking. You're still inhaling chemicals but exhaling a mist instead of hot smoke. It's still quite new & my understanding is that there's not enough definitive clarity on the dangers of long-term vaping. Wonder if that's why she didn't she mention being a vaper today?

Bwahahaha! Fine, ex-bohemian-like tambourinists are in such short supply. I'd almost forgotten how great Gunnar & Scarlet are singing together. Too bad we couldn't hear more than 25 seconds of that song, which was apparently enough to convince the woman (Alicia Witt} to pick them instead of Layla. I just can't anymore with G & S giving the serious, intense, I-want-to-do-you-right-now stares at each other while singing the slow ballads. Just stop it. Your attempts at relationships never last for more than 25 seconds. Knock it off. Poor Layla. The show is really trying to push her into another psychotic state. They just don't know what to do with her character. At least Will had 25 seconds of acceptance tonight from Luke. It's about time. Glad you had the same quality time with Colton, dad. Well, looks like 25 seconds is all the airtime Vita was allowed on this show. Obviously enough time for Rayna to decide to start a "Save the Troubled Musicians Who Live in Their Cars While Thieving & Lying About It" campaign. Maybe the charity will be a huge success - unlike Highway 65. Juliette is back! It took all of 25 seconds of singing so sweetly to Cady to allow her to earn Avery's trust. Of course next week will see Juliette yearning to be back on stage again. It only took about 25 seconds for Frankie to undo 15 years of sobriety. Who didn't see that coming? I'm happy to have been spared Maddie & Daphne's whiny angst tonight. Their singing together is angelic & always welcomed. Their acting is another story. They're not bad actors, they just need more than 25 seconds of decent script. Despite what I just wrote, I actually enjoyed this episode.

In Memoriam: Entertainment Industry Celebrity Deaths
Fisher King replied to Kromm's topic in Everything Else TV
Now Hag? Fuck. I knew this was imminent -- but it hurts me to the core. As a child, Merle was always a staple in the lives of our family living in the country, in the south. I rebelled against them all, using pop and rock as my "old fogey" arsenal. All my parents' music eventually found itself released from the vault deeply rooted within me, and finally gained the respect it deserved. There will never be another like Merle Haggard. He fought the good fight...along with the bad, and performed live until it was just impossible. Sad day. Edit: Yes, Merle said/wrote some pretty harsh words at times. That was one reason I couldn't take him seriously early on. His golden voice and heart-tugging songs took precedence over that other stuff I found offensive. -
I remember Joan Embery from The San Diego Zoo being on Carson. Jack Hanna got most of his notoriety from both of Letterman's late shows. Jack's always been a fast talker, bumbling in most of what he says.
-
Thank you, Jaded. I've always loved Jack Hanna, especially when he would freak out Letterman with his animals.
-
You're probably right, Sugarbaker. Maybe I was just assuming they were live for awhile.

It used to be. When Joy returned this season, they started out having live Fridays when she would moderate. That's my understanding.
-
No real "hot topics" so far. Must be a pre-taped show. Oh well. Nice having a Whoopi/CCB/Paula-free day.
-
Shut it, CCB. Poor Donald. Chris Matthews just kept pounding and pounding.... And this interrupting every discussion for the money giveaway is just bullshit.
-
Errmm, can we just skip ahead to Friday's show?
-
There's definitely something mentally off with Carson. He may have been a top-notch surgeon....so, that makes me question why he's no longer in that field. Why isn't he doing the brilliant work he is gifted to do? Why retire and go into politics - specifically the presidency? God complex?

LOL^^^Haleth!

That was truly awkward and I hate when Joy says stuff like that. At least Raven has dropped the air of ambiguity and admitted she is lesbian. Good for her.
-
I think you're right, Vinyasa. At least Jedidamndiah says she's anti-Drumpf. And no Whoops today!
-
Just now turned it on. Jedidamndiah again? Fuck me.

I thought (and was hoping) that Dale & Martha in the rocking van was Christina having a bad dream. I'm disappointed that it wasn't. Penelope is wrong IMO, Chip is a sad cloon. Not my favorite episode. Will have to watch again to appreciate it more.

Wow. A whole show that I actually watched in its entirety. I don't want to delete it from the DVR yet. In total agreement with Bronzedog about Paula. I disagree with her mostly but admire that she refuses to back down. Fun show today!

S04.E12: How Does It Feel To Be Free
Fisher King replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Nashville [V]
"Vitavitavegamin" Love it! I had to laugh when she told Rayna she'd done some things in the past she wasn't proud of - considering the actress playing her was killed off recently & left for zombie chow on The Walking Dead. Naw, she didn't take the cash. Frankie is the thief here. And the guy playing Luke's friend Riff plays rocker Gus on Shameless. He wrote an appropriately-titled song called "Fuck you, Fiona" for his now ex-wife. Can we please take some focus off Maddie & Daphne? Love their singing, but they're both so annoying when NOT singing. There was absolutely no need to bring Erin back just to have Gunnar break up with here. Don't know if I can handle more jealous, angsty crap with him & Scarlet. Besides the homophobic redneck breaking Will's nose, Will actually was the highlight of this episode. -
...and if anyone is an expert on wieners, that'd be Hannity. Too bad that's what he uses for a brain.
-
Very interesting. Thanks for linking that, Percysowner! I am a fan of everything Herskovitz/Zwick have done & they can certainly redirect this the show to the potential that it briefly flirted with but could not maintain. I'm concerned that the high budget will be the main roadblock to getting another season.

Did we really need Hulk Hogan taking up two segments? Blech. Maybe he'll spring for his lawyer a new rug w/some of his winnings. Ha. The Farce Awakens.

I still have love letters from 1000 years ago. Some memories are just very hard to discard. Whoopi says it's disrespectful to your current relationship to keep that stuff. I'm not sure that's true. I'm more with Paula that it's mainly about memories and poses no threat to 'now'.

....and the relationship expert Miss Whoopi is back. Ya know, hindsight reveals missed opportunities & anyone can offer good, sage advice, but actually living that advice is a whole 'nother thang, Whoops. The crosstalk is extra bad for me today.

I'm sure this ep was completed before Bowie's passing, and the tag was added for this airing. I totally agree about the actors playing the major musicians. Great casting in that regard. This was a really good episode IMO.
