I just bought a couple of longer jackets on sale from Lands' End (that's the way they spell it). Both are down, and one of them is "packable" and fits into a small bag. The other one hasn't arrived yet, but I'm hoping it I like it. It is supposed to be super warm. I like that this company rates the warmth of their coats and jackets so you have some idea if it will be warm enough for what you need.

Christine Brown Woolley: Nacho Sister Wife Anymore
CalicoKitty replied to Rhondinella's topic in Sister Wives
Actually, my dad's service was about a week and a half after he died. That was because he died the day before Thanksgiving, and the pastor was out of town visiting his family. Then we had to wait a few more days because the city was setting up road blocks for the Christmas parade, and the main road to the church was blocked. We had to wait until the parade was over and the blockades were down. My dad was a very altruistic but humble person, and we were sure he did want a parade for his funeral! -

We had a family graveside burial for my father, and then a formal memorial service at the church later the same day. At a funeral, the body, or ashes, are present at the service. The remains have already been buried before a memorial service. Both of my parents did not a regular funeral service. A memorial service has all the same elements as a funeral, but the body is not there. Sometimes a memorial service is personal preference, sometimes it is a necessity. We had a family grave side service for my mother, which was her request. -
They look so happy, and she looks so nice. I guess Tim didn't get the memo about appropriate dress. But then again, this may be the "best" he has. I hope they gave their "permission" for Jill's engagement announcement. I truly hope they keep their distance and demand rules for Jill. I also hope Heidi's family does all the wedding planning.

Only if the Wisdom Book had a chapter on income tax. That is a topic that probably isn't too important because the kids are only supposed to work for a family member (in this case, JB). Figuring out a way to not report any income would be more in line with their thinking, it seems.

My 69-year-old SIL and my 43-year-old niece just went to Disneyland IN COSTUME. I don't get it.

The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah

She is actually standing up straight in this picture, which makes her look thinner. She has had poor posture in pictures previously which made her tummy to appear to be sticking out. I thought she looked very nice in the picture with Joy. -

I agree. He may feel the need to show everyone how he is still "in power" in his family, and make some very strict matches for the remaining girls. I'm guessing he still has "friends" in high IBLP places. He needs some "obedient" sons-in-law to boost his ego. -

Thanks. I knew I remembered something like that, but I didn't remember his name. -

Is it Johanna that has been mentioned as "seeing" someone? Or "getting to know", or whatever the correct term is? I seem to remember some mention of something like that in this past year, but I don't remember the characters involved. -
She was also not given contracts to read. Just the signature page. Or her father signed her name. I am not at all surprised that she signed before she read. As a child I would have trusted my father and signed where and when he told me to. As an adult I read all the fine print before I sign anything. But I was not brought up under an "infallible headship" to whom I owed complete obedience. Jill's reality growing up was something that most of us cannot fathom.

I wonder if there are other large losses which have not been made public. I also wonder if any of the sons are starting to worry, or if everyone is kept in the dark and just told not to worry. These kids have been told they will inherit money, and have deliberately been kept from education and training so they couldn't make their own income and decisions. I'm getting the feeling that JB's empire is starting to crumble.
-
Do you think she is allowed to have a personal bank account? I think the headship, in this case JB, controls everything. She may be in "control" of an allowance, if JB is giving her one, but I truly doubt she can make any financial decisions for herself or her kids on her own. If she had access to any real money she might leave. I think it was reported here that two signatures are required on all LLCs, and one must be JB or the accountant, who I'm sure reports everything to JB. Anna, and all the Duggar kids, are under JB's control.
-
But I would be very surprised if Anna has any control over anything financial. I think she just signs where she is told.
-
I took that to mean that Josh has money on paper. He has LLCs in his name, but no one knows what he actually has in available cash.
-
Or, as happened with my dad, no one was overseeing his money, and as he aged he made some bad investments and lost a lot of money. Luckily, someone stepped in before he invested any more. But not everyone is fortunate enough to have a trusted person to oversee their money. JB has a very high regard for himself, and I can see him making some bad investments as he gets older. His "accountant" can make suggestions, but how his money is invested is his responsibility. Enticing investments can go wrong very quickly. I still say the kids are in for some bumpy times.

The kids are brainwashed to believe anything the "umbrella" says. Gothard portrayed this utopia where everyone was protected, even financially, and everyone would be fine if you didn't rock the boat. JB has invested in land and buildings, so, maybe, each kid will inherit their own lot and house. But I do not think they will be "set for life" the way they think they will. And a Duggar "electrician" is probably not very employable in the real world. Although, I hear ads for jobs for "experienced or inexperienced electricians" on the radio frequently. It is too bad the kids were not trained at a certified trade school. They would not want for good paying jobs. But that would make the kids independent in their own thoughts and lives, and JB and Gothard couldn't have that happen. Those kids and their families are really in for a shock, I'm afraid.
