T&H both seemed very happy in the video, and I think Heidi's family may have raised her to have some say of her own. I was so happy to see Tim and his dog, and Heidi seems like a real animal lover, also. Heidi seems to have a good handle on decorating, and I thought their house looked nice for a first home. How far away is this house from the barndo? I hope far enough away that Heidi doesn't have to encounter Jill too often.

Jill obviously thought it was funny, even at his age. Some parents do strange things for attention. Sister Wife Christine encouraged her teen age daughter to run across the room and jump into the decorated Christmas Tree while she filmed. She laughed the whole time. I can see Jill thinking this hilarious. She did post it, after all. The absence of Tim makes me wonder if he and his "girlfriend" are spending more time with her family, and not so much with Jill. I am also surprised that, after telling us that T & H wanted to post their own information, she has not posted about them. I wonder if she learned a lesson from MM, or if Heidi's family has more influence with Jill than MM does.

I think this was another way to show that he was in control over his kids. Since (most) of his kids have had all free will and thought squelched, and were indoctrinated to do whatever Dad said, I can see several of the kids doing as told, especially with a monetary reward being offered. A "life time" DNA wouldn't have made any difference to many, anyway. With their insular life, who were they going to tell? JB thought he had made a pretty safe bet.

Jer's pretty savvy. He had contacts that found the attorney that took the girl's case on contingency. And he is familiar with contracts. I have a feeling that there may be a volume II coming from their side of the family. Especially when they see how well Jill's book is selling , and all the interest in it. And what she had the guts to expose. Jill's book may be a wake-up call for some of her sibs. I definitely think the lines are drawn, and the kids are not a united family anymore.

She didn't mention Sam in the book, but she did say how fun it was to take Iz to school. Derrick is college-educated. I really would be very surprised if his kids did not go to school. It is possible that they don't want to advertise where the kids are attending. The school may have requested that she not name the school. I think (hope) that Jill has realized how different her live would be if she had had a good basic education.

The airplanes were not new, either.

I would not like to be the accountant who signed those tax returns. I would not be surprised if there is some kind of investigation. I can see JB telling officials that "all" the kids signed off on this. Maybe they did. "Here, kids, sign your name on this paper."
-
That may have something with the multitude of LLCs and moving money. I'm sure JB and the accountant handled everything.
-
I think some would. Some of those kids are used to being "protected", not only from satan but also financially. I don't think some of the "kids" could take care of themselves or make their own decisions.

I was surprised that Jill was quite clear that in IBLP, children were to be obedient to their parents for their entire lives, even after marriage. This also applies the new spouse. This organization really would appeal to little guys with big egos and the need for power. The father has control over everything in their life. Derick didn't see things the same way, which started some of the arguments. This explains, to me anyway, the pushback that Jill received as opposed to Josh. Josh was/is the "heir next in line" to run the family if something happened to JB.

Jill's family reputation of being "the snitch" was also brought to light. Jill's childhood was spent trying to be the "perfect child", and her whole reason for being was to gain positive attention (or any attention) from her parents. Her indoctrination by her parents went very deep. She wrote that she loved it when JB would point out to the other kids how correct she was or how she was doing the correct thing in a certain situation. She considered her nickname "Jilly Muffin" as proof that she had her parent's approval. That is part of the reason that she was so shocked when JB turned against her. What a horrible way to grow up. It is interesting that JB "found" and pushed Derrick and Jill towards each other. JB really thought that he had Derrick under his control. That didn't work out so well for him.

That was my impression when I read it. Everything on the list is a nice, round number, and he thought he was being clever to "charge" Jill for costs related to being his daughter. It was very insulting. He apparently had given them either money for, or actual, furniture. In that list he offered to buy the furniture back at a discount after so many years. Now that this "document" is out in the open, he really, really looks like a jerk.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
CalicoKitty replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
I totally agree with you. I hope she can get past this, but mentioning the people she was suing and dismissing any fault by her parents shows that this will be bothering her for a long, long time. She still can't see the entire picture. -

She is convinced that that was a good case, and says she was told by lawyers and a judge that it was a good case. She spells out the names of the people she named the the lawsuit very clearly at least three places in the book. She truly believed that the sisters would win that case. And states that Josh is the reason the case was not heard in court. I always thought that the people that got the information were within their rights because M and J did not meet some deadline that would have kept the info sealed---I remember we discussed it here, but I don't remember the deets. But Jill truly believes Josh's reputation and actions cost them the case. She also said that Josh showed no remorse for any of his actions. In one case he was making inappropriate jokes and someone told him to stop. -

Jill blames Josh for the sister's law suit not going through, also. She named the people who allowed the assault info to be made public in at least 3 places in her book, and I think that has really taken a toll on her emotions. I really doubt there will ever be any interaction between Jill and Josh ever. It was sickening to read how much pressure JB has put on his kids to try to "work on" Jill and Derick to accept a fast amount of money. She did not mention which sibs she is still in touch with, but I'm sure the bridges are burned with some of them. JB did a really good job of brainwashing his kids. -
And to be able to help children and adults who get in the same situation. Financial and contractual protection.

Just finished the book. It was an interesting read. Jill shows real emotional growth, as does Derick, and therapy really did help both of them. JB truly is a jerk, and I really do wonder if there will be any investigation of his finances after more people read this book. Jill spoke about how Josh sat on a couch just out of camera range looking very unconcerned during the Kelly interview. I doubt Jill will ever have anything to do with Josh in future. The writer they hired did do a good job. It is well written and easy to read with proper grammar and spelling, which sometimes does not happen with "celebrity" books. I found it well worth reading.

Well, I finally decided to do it. I put down my deposit for a Northern Lights cruise in Norway in March. I like Norway very much, but I have always been there when there was lots of sun. And I have never been to the top of Norway, so I am excited. It will be cold, but that is okay. I am looking forward to all the beauty. I will be staying in London for two days before the cruise--just to make sure there are no airline or weather snags. It is more expensive since I will be a solo traveler, but I have friends that are going, too, so I won't be totally alone. At least someone wanted to go where I want to go this time. I had to go to Siberia alone because no one wanted to go with me. They missed out on a good trip!

If I were one of JB's kids still dependent on him for my job and shelter (what a horrible thought), I think I would really start to worry. The gravy train may be stopping soon, especially if the IRS should decide to look into things. We're talking taxes of 19 people knowingly being filed incorrectly for years. No education, no savings, no income except that which is provided by JB (if you toe the line), and possible questions from the IRS. Even the sons in real estate and construction still have daddy's involvement. What a mess JB has created for his children just to amass property and money.

We now have our own forum book club!!

I wonder if JB's CPA will be questioned by anyone. Or the other kids. It sounds like there were questionable IRS forms filed. This has the potential to get interesting.

I just bought the Kindle version. I had a bunch of Amazon credits, so I decided to use them. Plan to read the book tomorrow.

I think I remember this from the time of the program. This, plus stating in court that he couldn't remember when Josh molested his sisters really firmed up my total distaste and dislike for JB and his entire cult.
