Current Plots Discussion: Actually Today's Episode

Abigail would have more luck with a job in "the oldest profession." I'm sure she'd show up for work a lot more often and it would be something she'd certainly enjoy doing. ; -) She could offer a Married Man special or a Repeat Dimera reduced price. LOL -
Sami's EJ news is the only thing holding my attention. We all know Bo/Steve will arrive in time to save Hope and that Trollop is in no real danger because that's just how this show props her. Adrienne has no right to be upset about Justin kissing any woman after the way she's treated him.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I don't think I'd start celebrating yet about that rating increase if I was the Days exec. (If they even care since it often seems Corday does not.) I think it's to be expected that rating will increase in the weeks surrounding the big 50th. (Heck it would be a real downfall if they didn't). But the real test is if they can sustain their increased ratings. They had a higher week because they killed off a main character (Will) and temporarily brought back a long time vet (Sami). Replying on shock tactics only pumps the ratings for so long. Using the 50th to get back old viewers isn't a bad marketing tool at all, but you also have to write stories and use characters that will sustain those viewers. Otherwise the ratings will either take a major nose dive after the big celebration or a steady decline in the months that follow. -

Those few seconds were the best part of the whole show, probably the whole week. They need to sell him as the father of a 17 year old since the last time we saw him, only a few years ago, his daughter wasn't even in kindergarten. The beard is probably their lame attempt. -

I love the hints that EJ is alive. While the writers clearly screwed the characters over just about any chance they got, the actors had amazing chemistry together, something I fail to see with many of the other matches in Salem these days. What I'm confused on is this...did I miss a scene since Monday's episode when Marlena was outside the pub confronting Sami & Eric about the letter? As for today episode.... can they possible drag out this plot of Bo getting home any more? Almost two months of scenes where PR interacts with day-players instead of the major characters of the show is ridiculous. And with Steve tied up and Bo drugged out it drags on even more. The pacing on this show is awful. I truly felt bad for JJ being related to those harpy, naggy two. For writers who said they were going to tone down some of the characters, they sure haven't made any headway with Jen and Abby as evident from today's show. They treated JJ like he was 14, not 19. And their priorities are unreal. Jennifer support every bad decision Abby makes (to which there are many) but JJ wants to join the police force and it's a travesty that he's not finishing college first. Trollop and Mother Superior can leave my screen anytime. But since I'm sure they won't it will certainly be me tuning out soon. -

I'm confused too where they are going with this Justin/Adrienne scene. They way they act with each other only seems to reinforce that they should be divorced, and if the breast cancer gene angle is meant to garner sympathy for Adrienne, I don't get it. At this point she has all the facts--she has the gene but her medical records at this point are clear so her decision is either to continue with perhaps more frequent screenings or consider preventative surgery. And if Justin is offering up a top notch specialist for a medical opinion, freaking take it. She's only coming off ungrateful and self-involved. -

I have to admit that Justin & Adrienne have never been a fav couple of mine by a long shot (as in could never care less about them), but if they are going to be on screen once again, must they make Justin so bossy and on a power hungry vendetta while Adrienne is so bitchy. The woman projected major PMS today. If they are going to change Justin's personality can they take him back to the fun loving playboy he was when he first appeared on screen in the '80's. -
I loathed BB as Shawn. For me, it's Jason Cook or nothing.

Today's episode was brought to you in part by OJ Simpson as Aiden recounts his version of "If I Did It" ;-) -

Hope and Abby have had how many scenes/stories together on this show and yet Hope asks her to be a bridesmaid??? Just another instance of Trollop propping. Kayla and Jennifer I can certainly see being in the wedding party but Abigail just seems out of the blue. -

Glad to see Kate and Sami connect where they left off and not at odds. Liked their “partner” line and “no fun putting the screws to Stefano without you.” So Stefano and Andre agreed he’d stay hidden but the DA has known he’s here??? Yeah, okay. Why did Kayla decide to mention Will’s death right after telling Steve not too? Can Sami finally go see her now and get some decent advice instead of talking to her drip of a brother? Maybe Caroline can have a premonition of where EJ is! Steve was adorable with his “What’ s wrong with this face?” line. I don’t know how Kayla is resisting him cause I sure can’t. And then the kiss! She should have climbed him like a tree in the middle of that hospital. Speaking of climbing like a tree, did anyone else think Trollop might be wondering if Andre is the answer to her next Dimera lay??? After all, with EJ presumed dead and Chad in a coma, it wasn’t looking promising for Dear Abby the next time she got that urge. -
I'm far more interested in this than anything else on the horizon.

I think if you write a compelling story it will attract viewers of any age. I was far more interested in Steve/Kayla, Bo/Hope than I was Jennifer and Frankie and that teen scene when I was even younger than them. However, I did enjoy Shawn and Belle's teen romance when I was much older than them. kristabell, it's interesting that you mention your students not watching. When I was in college we definitely watched when we weren't in class. Perhaps another indication that the storylines have gone down hill since then.

They are lining up the new teen set to attract new teen viewers after all the long time viewers jump ship over a lousy 50th. That's their new rating plan. ;-)

OMG, seriously? Is this woman related to Kim Davis? Does Corday have no backbone to say no? He does about everything else. If this rumor is true I hope the whole thing does blow up in their faces. -
LOL @ Ben's plan going down the tank because of Andre's plan. But does anyone else find it odd that Hope's life insurance policy already lists Aiden as her spouse when they aren't married yet??? Is that a fake? And why list him above her own kids when they haven't even been together that long? They could send Clyde off to the gallows in FL. Would kill two birds with one stone ;-)

That would be a good plausible explanation. Let's hope they go with something like that. Maybe even tie Andre into it somehow. I honestly would like to see more of this storyline. I'd much rather watch a mystery unfold than watch people grieve every day. Gets depressing pretty quick. Has Ken gone through a lengthy, nasty divorce or something that he's so sour on love and romance??? It would explain a lot. Bet he's fun to be around on Valentine's Day. ;-) -
I agree. She's made him wiser, smarter, more clued in. He's easier on the eyes than Chad who's on screen equally as much. I don't mind him. If only Dena would fine tune most of the rest of the cast.

At this point it feels too early to tell if the writers have something credible with the letter storyline or not. I definitely want to see where it goes although I suspect we won't get any true answers. While I think the new writers are bungling this 50th anniversary pretty bad and missing a lot of opportunities for vets back a limited time, I can't say I feel that Sami's storyline is one of them. To be fair to them [the writers], they assumingly only have AS back for a brief stint, they don't have JS back, and they are dealing with follow-up from a recent exit storyline written by the previous writers. I suspect they are setting the stage for a possible future return of both characters or at the very least they are trying to appease the Ejami fans (like myself) that were anywhere from hugely disappointed with the way the exit was handled last year or outright pissed. (I personally left after that and am only back watching now temporary for the 50th and mostly Steve.). So for the current writers, I'd at least consent that they somehow have to explain how EJ potentially survived after the head scratching ending we saw on screen if they want a future return. Perhaps (and I'm entirely speculating based off what little we've seen) EJ somehow faked his death and Clyde isn't the "killer" at all. Maybe Clyde was in on it somehow. The letter certainly points to EJ taking precautions should Stef seek retaliation, and there was a scene back last year of EJ with fake identities for the family. Now how that ties in with Kristin injecting his body, I have no clue. Then again, maybe EJ doesn't think Stef was going to kill him at all but he wanted away from the mob for good and thus wanted Stef to think he was dead and this letter is just a rouse to get Sami to that box where he'll lead her to him. He certainly could guess Sami would jump at revenge over Stef. Who knows? But there have been far more things on this show that have lacked more continuity and made less sense than that letter. Incidentally, Stef was sitting around the house today playing chess with a former serial killer so I don't think anything is out of the realm of possibility for the Dimera family. Didn't Andre kill Renee, Stef's daughter? -

I agree it was odd that Ben didn't mention the part about trying to call the cops. That might have led more validity to his "statement." I don't think Rafe bought everything Ben had to say or more likely he's definitely suspicious of him. I couldn't help thinking that scene played Rafe with more self preservation skills than Will. Rafe at least waited till he was out the door till he pushed buttons that might clue Ben in that he was on to him. EJ's letter basically said if he was dead then he figured he didn't diffuse the damage they'd done and Stef had killed him so it makes perfect sense that Sami would think that. Sami crossed the Dimeras and EJ stuck by her. They both feared retaliation. That's a healthy fear if you are involved with a mob family. I personally can't imagine that Marlena or Rafe would rule anything out when it came to Stef. The old man once held Rafe captive in his basement while an evil impostor took his place, and I've lost count of all of Stef's crimes against Marlena and her family. Again, as viewers we may know Stef didn't kill EJ, but the rest of the characters don't know that and Stef is usually the culprit. Heck, even Chad--his own son--thought his old man was setting him up in the beginning. -

First there is the difference between Sami helping clear the father of her children accused of murdering a man she hates vs. believing in the innocence of the man accused of killing her son. Second, Sami is hardly in the same state of mind now as she was then. Right now she is living in sorrow and possibly fear. She knows she crossed the Dimeras. It's certainly not a jump for her to assume Will's death was Chad via Stefano enacting revenge. Then today's letter from EJ nailed that point home even more. I realize as viewers we know Clyde had EJ killed but Sami would have no basis to think that. I got the impression that Sonny just meant he wasn't ready to face Ari yet...that night. That it would be an emotional moment. Perhaps even the thing that made it all the more real. As for Sami, EJ's letter is like a glimmer of hope in a very dark period of her life. He was her husband and he was killed just when they thought they we're starting on a new path. Now Will's been taken from her too. She knows she can't bring Will back and this letter gives her something to focus on, a purpose. I think it makes a lot of sense. Plus we still have Will's funeral to see. We don't know yet how that will play out with remembrances. -

That is just so wrong. If Days is going to engage in censorship to appease certain viewers, then they can start blacking out Trollop's scenes for me because I find her the most offensive person on the show. -

While I think it's a little silly that half of the town has jumped on the Chad is guilty bandwagon, I could easily see how Sami would also have that information. She wasn't in town before Will was killed and thus has only been thrown this information/the predominate opinion since her return while trying to process that her first born is gone. And while Rafe doesn't think Chad did it and Marlena has her doubts, there is an APB out for Chad and he's listed as the top suspect. Plus Sami knows how the Dimeras operate so her assuming Chad is the killer isn't exactly out in left field. -

But will the ratings stay up??? That is the real question. People are tuning back in for the murders and the return of previous characters but that doesn't mean they'll stay around when the shock value killings and "50th celebrations" wear off. And that might be the show's biggest failure, not retaining viewers. What they've created with the current storylines may only have temporary results. I'll freely admit I"m mostly just back for Steve and Kayla, and the show has been dragging their feet on that. -

They are probably banging on the lids of their coffins screaming, "what the hell kind of a 50th anniversary of our show is this crap! We should have disowned Ken."
