  1. From Jayson Stark at ESPN.com : • Gwynn got hits off Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Steve Carlton and Phil Niekro -- four men who won a combine1,282 games. • He hit .400 or better against eight different Cy Young winners -- Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, Bret Saberhagen, Vida Blue, John Denny, Dennis Eckersley, Mark Davis and Doug Drabek -- and batted at least .300 against seven more. • He racked up 39 hits off Maddux (39 for 94, .415), 33 against Smoltz (32 for 72, .444) and 30 against Tom Glavine (30 for 99, .303). • And none of these pitchers ever struck him out: Pedro Martinez (35 AB), Hideo Nomo (25 AB), Mike Hampton (33 AB) or, incredibly, Maddux (in 94 AB).
  2. I've never been to San Diego and I'm not a Padres fan but I bawled like a baby upon hearing about Tony Gwynn's passing earlier today. It was an absolute honor and a privilege to watch him play such a beautiful game and I don't know if there will ever be a sweeter swing than his.
  3. In addition to rocking an easy, carefree hair style LuAnn seems to wear minimal makeup in tasteful, muted tones and that adds to her overall youthful appearance (unlike the OC harpies who spackle it on.) LuAnn is a few months younger than me and while I look very young for my age, 49, I don't have her sense of style, not even close, so overall I'd say she looks much better than I do. She's my current girl crush.
  4. Speaking of ASG voting surprises what the hell does my boyfriend Andrew McCutchen have to do to be voted in as a starter? Granted he got off to a slow start but now he's back to his 2013 MVP numbers pace yet at last check he was fourth in outfielder voting.
  5. The first season of 'Mad Men' was set in 1960 so the fashion then was still very much of the 1950's. And, sadly, the treatment of women in the show was accurate, especially of those in the work place.
  6. Good for Avery. Emory University is no slouch school and only accepts the brightest of the bright.
  7. Gigantic or not I loved every single piece she wore. My idea of accessorizing is earrings and a watch so I'm in awe of any woman who can pull a look together like LuAnn can.
  8. What is with Aviva's hair? The color reminds me of a dead body when it turns gray-ish and she obviously has extensions or some sort of weave as they show through terribly, especially from the back.
  9. Oh hell yes. I thought I was the only one who recognized Craig Melvin as super fine other than his lovely ESPN anchor wife, that is.
  10. Growing up 'All In the Family' was absolutely appointment TV in my house. These days on the rare occasion where I come across a rerun my initial reaction is to get excited about watching it but I've found the jokes fall really, really flat in current times.
  11. Wow, I would have guessed higher. I'll be 50 in March and I don't know if it's bad lighting or makeup but sometimes Shannon looks positively ancient to me.
  12. Feels like every time I watch these women I lose a few brain cells. I'm not sure I can handle the manufactured drama anymore.
  13. I don't have a DVR or a Netflix account so my only option (other than occasional online watching the most recent episode) is real time. Not to rag on anyone who enjoys binge watching but I have better things to do with my time than watch hours and hours of TV in one sitting.
  14. Neither could I. I watched a little bit of the first season and found it not just completely unfunny but the characters insufferable.
  15. I did too. Hugh and NPH are vastly different entertainers and while nothing will ever top last year's instant classic opening number I thought Hugh held his own nicely. I didn't care for the bouncing but enjoyed pretty much everything about him after that point. I want to party with James Monroe Iglehart. His wife can come along too if she wants. Idina sounded fabulous. I'm very hit or miss with her (for the record I think "Let It Go" is dreck and that her vocals are horrible on it) but she nailed the 'If/Then' song. To paraphrase something my lyricist boyfriend Lin-Manuel Miranda posted last night on FB, Idina has more talent in her lower lip quiver than most people have at all. A true statement for that performance, in my opinion.
  16. While I know the ASG has been a popularity contest for a number of years I completely agree with you, even though I know nothing will be done about it. I was the person who was incredulous when Mariano Rivera was named MVP of the ASG last year. For what? For his career?
  17. I had a friend in college who was from Monsey. Wish I could remember her name but that was 30 years ago and since it was college my memory is a bit hazy.
  18. I never thought anyone (or anything) could get me to side with George but Ramona almost did. Loved Sonja's bedhead hair when she returned to the house. Seemed obvious to me that someone had been rolling in the hay.
  19. Kate was okay but Ziva will always be my favorite in terms of a a female member of the team. I found her fascinating and thought the character had interesting layers as she went from being cold and almost emotionless to someone with feelings and empathy. Quite possibly my favorite single piece of acting on the show was when Ziva broke down and cradled her dead father. I get teary eyed even thinking about it.
  20. Can we replace Bishop with Delilah. Please?
  21. Sean Rodriguez of the Rays is on paternity leave right now as well and nobody said a word. Does Boomer have some personal vendetta against Daniel Murphy or something?
  22. How about this bullshit over the Mets' Daniel Murphy taking two days of paternity leave (the collective bargaining agreement allows for three) for the birth of his first child and then gets criticized by the likes of Boomer Esiason for doing so. Boomer even suggested that Murphy's wife should have scheduled her C-section prior to the start of the season. What an ass.
  23. I've watched TAR since episode one of season oneand for the longest time Kevin and Drew from that inaugural season were my favorites but Flight Time and Big Easy have claimed that top spot. I truly believe they're not on the race as much to win it as they are to spread good cheer everywhere they go and I never get tired of hearing "Sweet Georgia Brown."
  24. <---- Waves hello to TheAnglican. (yes, it's FFF)
  25. I'm having that problem with LaSalle as the actor seems so forced and unnatural to me.
