  1. Very late to this party but my favorite Partridge Family song has always been "Summer Days" as there's something so light and carefree about it, just like a summer day I suppose. Growing up I had all of the PF albums on vinyl but my mother threw them away, along with most of the rest of my stuff, when I left home for college. These days I have two CD's, I think, and I have no problem admitting this in public!
  2. Why ask only the pitchers to pick up the pace? What about forcing batters (the forever gorgeous Nomar Garciaparra comes to mind) to stop with their pre-batters box routines?
  3. I normally agree with just about everything Tom Verducci says but I don't like the idea of making changes to the pace of the game. I guess it's just me but a slow pace doesn't bother me and I don't think a pitcher should have to rush his delivery. Twelve seconds is not a lot of time at all.
  4. Funny you should mention her family because I was thinking the same thing earlier today. I'm sure someone is there with her. And for the record I think I'm in love with Rhode Island's coach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3H-krftI58
  5. No, and I wasn't aware he did one! Thanks for letting me know as I shall watch the clip when I get home from work. (damn firewall here at work prevents me from having fun like that) ETA: I watched the video and two things stuck out to me. First of all the challenge is for a good cause and, second, I got to see Cutch shirtless. Win win!
  6. I've yet to see Philly play so I'm looking forward to tonight's game, but I also agree with you about how much longer a young person can handle these expectations. Now I'm starting to worry about Mo'ne in a maternal way.
  7. I feel a kindred spirit as I am a white Jewish woman born in New York in 1965 :)
  8. I heard about the SI cover today and while part of me thinks it's an amazing honor the other part of me worries if it's too much pressure to put on a 13 year old. That being said I look forward to my issue arriving in the mail later this week.
  9. That was actually a cover as the original, spelling and all, was by the band Slade from 1973. ::: ducks and runs away :::
  10. That was pretty much my take on it as well. Manufactured drama for the sake of having drama.
  11. They might be good athletes but at the same time they're still kids and sometimes it breaks my heart to see them cry.
  12. I wasn't home last night so I missed the game in its entirety, but I hear it was a good one.
  13. I'm in the US and school districts are a huge selling point. Even though I'm childless by choice I made sure to buy in a top rated school district as it could aid in resale value.
  14. I am amazed by her poise. She handles this interview so incredibly well. http://espn.go.com/sports/llws14/story/_/id/11358935/little-league-world-series-philadelphia-beats-nashville-mone-davis-two-hitter
  15. A coworker of mine is a Philly area native and he explained how Taney Youth Baseball is an all inclusive league regardless of race, gender, socio-economic status, etc. so they take kids from all around greater Philadelphia and no one is turned away even if the family can't afford the dues. I really like that. It's only their second year as a chartered Little League member and I think I'm going to root for them.
  16. Well shit, does this mean Manfred will govern (for lack of a better word) in the same mold as Selig? If so I'm not happy with this choice.
  17. I'm a baseball fanatic in general but really look forward to the LLWS each year as it's so much fun to watch (and I often cry when I see the kids crying.) ESPN does a damn good job with its coverage and with the broadcasters.
  18. The 2014 LLWS begins today and I love how there are two girls in the tournament, one on the team from Vancouver, Canada and the other on the Mid-Atlantic region champs from Pennsylvania. Nothing wrong with throwing like a girl!
  19. I wonder if being such an optimist means she's a well-wisher?
  20. No kidding. I'm 49 and she almost looks old enough to be my mother.
  21. I lived in Atlanta for many years, and once while flying home from a business trip the TSA agent confiscated my full sized tube of toothpaste at the Charlottesville airport. Who knew good oral hygiene was such a threat to society? Ramona would not have approved since I didn't know a private pilot who could pick me up at my pre-planned whim.
  22. I didn't realize part three was airing at 8:00 and not 9:00 so I missed the entire thing. Oh well.
  23. Oh yes, I remember him. And you have every right to still be angry at your cousin.
  24. I used to have so much fun with his name, especially when the announcers would say something like "Herr is batting" and I'd correct them with "SHE is batting." Yeah, I'm a geek.
  25. That was all kinds of awesome, thanks for posting it!
