It sounds like it is filled with medical professionals this year, which is great...but I’m guessing the majority are from the Tampa area.

My husband spent the last hour trying to convince me that Tampa Bay doesn’t really have a home field advantage. That crowd would prove otherwise. He also tried to convince me that Tom Brady was an underdog. There is no universe in which that is true.

I enjoyed this episode, although I didn't find either Lynch's or Gaffigan's family story especially noteworthy. I've never been a big fan of Jane Lynch, but I think that is more because of the roles she has played. She was delightful as herself here. Also, taking a shot every time Gates says, "Can you believe that?" would be a dangerous drinking game.

The Pursuit of Love is an upcoming romance drama miniseries based on the novel of the same name by Nancy Mitford.

If I do some mental gymnastics, I can envision a way in which neither Close nor Waters would have previously considered the fact that they had slave-owning ancestors. In Waters case, he came from an urban family the family was urban for quite some time in his history. While incorrect, I can see how he might have believed that only farmers owned slaves. In Close's case, her Northeastern family history seemed to be the dominant culture, so to speak, so maybe she never really considered her Southern side. No, there really isn't an excuse for Glenn Close not realizing before the filming of the show that she had slave owning ancestors, especially with Granny Close telling stories about her Mammy. I didn't realize that Glenn Close had such ties to the College of William and Mary (NOT "William and Mary College," Professor Gates!). I always knew she attended there and there was a lot of stories and respect for her in the theater department, but her family name of Taliaferro also graces one of the residence halls on campus.

This is a loss. I think the kick line in A Chorus Line is probably the most iconic bit of Broadway choreography. -
Only a week in and I've had a pretty productive 2021 in terms of reading. So, far I've finished The Mothers by Brit Bennett (excellent, but I preferred The Vanishing Half), A Conspiracy in Belgravia by Sherry Thomas (#2 in the Lady Sherlock series--which is a fun one), and Our Darkest Night by Jennifer Robson (very typical, very predictable WWII novel. I'm sure I won't even remember it next week). I'm about to start The Sound of Gravel by Ruth Wariner, which has been sitting on my TBR bookshelf for 5 years now. However, I've heard a lot of people lately mention that they really liked it, so I thought it might be time to give it a try. I have The Eighth Detective by Alex Pavesi going on my kindle and really enjoying it so far. Finally, I have the audiobook of Sex and Vanity by Kevin Kwan going. It's...okay. I enjoyed the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy, but I was pretty much done with that whole schtick by the end of the 3rd book. I thought S&V would be different, but it is basically another CRA book. But, the narrator is good and it is enough of a diversion to occupy me when I'm out walking.

I quite enjoyed this show as well...and it seemed like the producers/writers had been reading this thread! From what I've read elsewhere, Rose and Laura had an interesting relationship. Actually, Rose was more of a self-important pill and clashed frequently with her mother.

I listened to it on audiobook (at 1.1 speed) and I think that is definitely the way to go. I only did 1-2 chapters a day, which was perfect to not get bogged down in all the policy. This is one of the best parts of the book. It's done in such a way that it is not an outright accusation, but anyone can read between the lines and know EXACTLY what he's saying.

As I said in the currently reading thread, I think The Arctic Fury would be an amazing movie. It is an adventure story and a courtoom drama, both of which play well on the screen. It is also a survival story, which tend to do well. And, of course, the cast of characters are about 95% women. There are some scenes I think could be very effective in a visual form and even what bothered me about the book, the sometimes over the top courtroom antics, would do well on screen.

The Great White Way has lost another star, Rebecca Luker has died. She posted not that long ago that she had been diagnosed with ALS. Either she had been suffering with it for a while before announcing, or it moved very quickly in her case. -
I really enjoyed this one, even though the premise did not sound interesting to me. Walter does a fabulous job of creating a sense of place, to the point that I started looking up real estate in Spokane once I finished the book!

I just finished The Arctic Fury by Greer Macallister and really enjoyed it . It was almost a 5 star read for me. The only thing that marred it for me is that some of the things that happened in the courtroom scenes were just too unbelievable. I will say, though, it has been a long time since I read a book and immediately wished there was a movie of it. This would be a fantastic choice for Hollywood!

Ann Reinking has died I remember seeing Annie (the movie) when I was a kid and thinking Reinking, as Grace Ferrell, was the epitome of grace.
