Maybe repressed anger isn't the right word. It's hard to really put my finger on it because I don't know if its storyline reasons or not. I might describe it as an increasing sense of isolation. (Not a perfect word, but probably the best I can come up with). Mary has rejected him repeatedly. The one time he told her off, she still seemed standoffish. Almost more so because the show didn't make the effort to show Dean keeping in touch with Mary like they did in the early eps. I do believe that when Dean told Sam to pick a side, what he really meant was pick my side. Then Sam picked Team Brit and Mary. Then despite all the hurt Mary caused by lying Sam preceded to do the same thing. He lied for weeks and made Dean work for them without his knowledge. When asked "what about Dean." Sam didn't consider Deans' feelings. He just said 'give me time" Sam's response suggests that he's going to make sure Dean comes around, regardless of what Dean wanted. i 'm not saying he needed Dean's permission but Sam did owe it to Dean to be upfront about it. While true Dean didn't have a gun to his head, there was some manipulation on Sam's part because Sam knows Dean won't leave him out there by himself with a bunch of douches that he didn't trust. When Cas came back, Sam came across as being more on Cas's side. Dean even said they're batting zero too. Not to mention, Cas betrayed him 3 times this episode alone. That all has to weight on someone with Dean's self-esteem/abandonment issues so maybe Dean is angry about the Mary/Cas/BMoLs sitution but he also probably feels very alone and that no one is on his side right now. If Dean was happy and unburdened, it wouldn't explain why he's become so incompetent on a hunt for reasons other than those that would belong in the bitch/jerk thread.

Agree. He's been rejected the person he most held dear, his best friend betrayed him 3 times in this episode alone, his brother lied to him, and he has to work with an organization he dislikes and doesn't trust. He doesn't even know about Crowley yet. The best word I can use to describe Dean is resigned. He's not questioning anything, he didn't even notice his picture was missing or anything amiss in his room or at the bunker. He's drifting from hunt to hunt and barely participating. When he actually shows up he's making dumb mistakes and is generally inept. He also looks tired and worn out. One thing I noticed, when Cas comes to his room, there is an empty bottle of Jack on the desk. Not usually a sign that Dean is in a good place. I just hope its all leading somewhere. I do have mixed feelings about Dean going off. I think more than any character Dean needs space, but at the same time, I don't want him to go off and then something bad happens to everyone else. He doesn't not need more guilt piled onto his shoulders.

It would be cool if they got JDM back for a cameo but if they did that should be something they advertise as much as they can since a lot of people want to see him again. It could only help ratings. Or its within a month or two of the fire. Although it doesn't necessarily have to include John. On the s1 dvd there was a deleted scene for Home when Sam and Dean talk to John's business partner. He says that he called social services and that is why John took off. There was a very small snippet of dialogue that could be made out about them not being safe. I can imagine that John was at least considered as a suspect. It could be interesting to see a scene of a young Dean dealing with CPS and being afraid of being seprated from Sam and/or John.

Saw this on Tumblr. We know the details of what lead up to the fire, so I hope if this is accurate, it shows the immediate aftermath of the fire.

Jared did use almost identical words as Jensen did at the end of season 9. He said that he was surprised the writers "went there" and he was excited for it. So I think the baby powering up Sam is a real possibility.

I'm not saying that Sam have never done that, but Dean is usually proactive. Even in Point of No Return when he last faith he still tried to do something. He just didn't sit back. He thought he could stop things by saying yes to Michael. Right now it feels like Dean doesn't care about anything. As I've said repeatedly, I kept hoping it was tied to something or there would be some kind of pay off, but that hope is now completely extinguished and I belief its just Dabb's lack of interest.

That doesn't sound like Dean. Rresearch may not be Dean's favorite thing but he is more than capable and if Dean saw Sam burning himself out he wouldn't sit back and let Sam do it all. He's the one whose usually saying that they will find another way. One of my favorite Dean traits is him coming up without out of the box solutions. If Dean had that attitude Zacheriah and Eve would still be walking around. If there was any situation that called for an out of the box solution it would be this, and Dean should be contributing.

Even with Jared and Jensen working part time, there are still ways to incorporate Sam and Dean into the stories. For example, I liked the dynamic between Ketch and Dean. As it stands right now, I dont' think Dean is anything more than a name on Ketch's list. I don't think there is any kind of relationship or that Ketch has it in for Dean in particular. But instead of a by the numbers story where Dean shows Ketch the error of his ways, use it to show Dean he's nothing like Ketch and maybe give him some true character growth and he realizes he's more than just a killer. Or a cat and mouse game between Dean and Ketch. Where maybe Dean prevented Ketch from completing some mission and it was Ketch's first failure and he wants revenge. Sam is more tied to Lucifer than Dean is, so while Dean gets the focus on the Brits stories, Sam gets more focus in the Lucifer stuff. But as of now, Sam and Dean are none exsistent in the mythology and Dean is non-existent in the MOTW. While, I have no problem on episodes focusing on guest stars, Sam and Dean have essentially really haven't contributed much to anything this season.

I know this is nitpicky and it normally wouldn't have even registered but given the way the season is going it stood out like a sore thumb. Dean is the one we've seen put in the effort with Cas. It was him trying to call, checking jails and morgues making all the effort to find Cas. When Cas shows up in Dean's room, the dialogue makes sure to include Sam, but having Dean say "We were worried." I'm not saying Sam wouldn't be worried but even without showing anything they made sure to include Sam, implying that he may be doing it off screen. We see Sam doing all research and coming up with all the ideas. When Cas asks, what they should do , Dean specifically says "Sam is working on it." So what has Dean been doing all this time. Not "We're working it" to show Dean is contributing, even off screen. Nope, just Sam and only Sam . Maybe that memory spell finally erased Dean's ability to read. Even in the episode next week, the synopsis says its, not really a spoiler but tagging incase I know that its a very unimportant thing, but at this point its like when a person is having a very bad day and even the minor stupid little things seem irritating. It's not making either character fun to watch. I think a large part is that since neither brother has a direct tie to the major mythology arc, they're over compensating by giving Sam, Dean's usual role on the show, but as you said it so lope sided its looking like every writer is taking it as a personal challenge to try and prevent Dean from having a significant role in every episode.

Agree. What was the point of making Dean all protective and possessive the colt if he was the only one that didn't get to use it.

Given the way they've written Dean for the majority of the season, I would have preferred Dean be off screen

I'm starting to think its more than just no interest, and its actual dislike of the character. No way its not deliberate at this point. Dean doesn't research anymore, he can't fight or hold on to a weapon, and he's the only character who didn't get to fire the colt.

I'd say the scene she's referring to is Dean's confrontation with Mary where he talks about the deal. There is probably a scene later with Sam where Mary apologizes for the deal and the effect it had on him. As for the cliffhanger, it could be that not everyone is dead, it could be similar to season 1 where everyone's fate is up in the air. There was that spoiler about everyone being in a perilous predicament. Then they dont have to worry trying to get out of it.

I think that answer sounds like a lot of rambling and Dabb is as lost as to what's going on this season as we are. That things didn't pan out the way he meant them too and he's now just throwing stuff at the wall to see if it sticks. As for Ketch, I predict that he and Dean will be fighting and Dean will lose (because he can't seem to hold his own in a fight anymore), and Mary will shoot Ketch, and everything Mary has done will be swept under the rug because she "chose Dean"

So if they aren't going with a redemption arc for Ketch what was the point of him taking Mary's picture?

What bothered me most about this clip is Sam saying the nephilim don't need 9 months. That just increased the odds that little Lucifer will grow up over hiatus and end up looking exactly like Mark Pellegrino.

I'm sure it just hasn't kicked in yet. Since Berens (who wrote The Raid) also wrote this, I'm sure it will end with an apology. I don't think Cas has been reprogrammed but I think he was probably convinced that the Nephilim had to be stopped and Cas's mission to eliminate Kelly. I think he showed up at the bunker to steal the colt. So I don't think he's being entirely upfront with Sam and Dean. I wonder if Dean will discover that his picture is missing. He didn't even have to pop down, he could have said he's working on a lead and will be unreachable for awhile and he'd be in touch when he could.

I remember at the end of s8, Osric Chau tweeted about he was going to miss this, with a picture of his chair on set. Everyone thought he was getting killed in the finale, but it turned out he was just going to everyone during hiatus. They seem to be filming her quite a bit.

I do hope your right and after everything ends I can go back and pick up on clues I missed. I always enjoy your posts, I'd like to read your other head canon.

I also have issues with how Dean was portrayed last season, I felt he was entirely too passive. But at least he didn't lose his hunting skills. But i was speaking only about this season. As for the videographer, I'll don't feel comfortable speaking for her. I perfer proactive proactive Dean, not reactive. S11 was one of my least favorite (until this season) so its isn't just the last few episodes. The last few episodes just comfirms my theory. Dabb has no interest in Dean. I find it started last year and has been getting worse. In his eps last year, Form and Void, 11.17, 11.10, all followed the pattern we see in the back half of this season. Dean feeling like he's forced into episodes. So I don't see it being plot reasons, but again MMV Dean might have been a bad ass in First Blood but Dabb also made Dean be the one to crack and call Billy because 6 weeks of isolation is worse then hell. There is a difference between quieter and non-existent, and right now the need for Dean on screen feels non-existent, other than contract reasons. You can easily remove him from this season and not much would change. Even if Dean wanted out of research, it doesn't explain why he suddenly lost his hunting skill We can agree to disagree.

I wouldn't be surprised if episode 22 opened with Claire breaking into Alex's dorm room and telling her that Jody went on a hunting trip and hasn't been home in a few days and we find out she's been taken by the British Men of Letters. Show does love its parallels. One thing in Dabb's interview, he said they get out with varying degrees of success. Mary is in the deepest, with Sam next and then Dean being on the outskirts. So does this mean that someone won't make it all the way out? Mary- they've messed her character up so much, Im not sure how much impact that would have on the general audience Sam- They did that cliff hanger last year. Dean- maybe, If the brits deem his rogue but I have no idea how they see him. There was something about the brothers moving things into the bunker but its possible that is done at the start of the episode, rather than at the end. Or its done as a false sense of security. The Brits are sent back to London, The Nepilim is dealt with, and Sam, Dean, Mary, Cas, Crowley are all at newly decorated bunker thinking its just straight hunting and then.....BOOM! Fade to black.
