  1. As soon as they pointed out Christian's stretch fabric, I knew he'd be out for not meeting the brief with a fabric that could be cut on the bias. Along with the other issues, I imagine it was a fairly easy decision. Those pants in the pattern challenge are so cute but what a tricky process.
  2. Don't they usually? I feel like 80% or more come from the made to measure. I only remember a couple from the transformation and don't remember any that were from the pattern challenge. This is only my 3rd season though.
  3. This is a great comparison. Sister Frances and Nurse Crane are both characters I wasn't sure I would like when they first appeared, but they are now by far my favorites.
  4. The other really strange thing to me about Jackson's flameout was that he had been good at playing the game so far, making what he wanted but having a good story to tie it into the assigned task. Unless they had explicitly been told that the diners were voting, then he knew that it was entirely up to the judges. Therefore, schmooze the heck out of the judges! Cater to them, explain everything to make it sound extra-special, emphasize your contributions to the team, whatever it takes to curry favor (pun intended). In real life, I don't like overly attentive wait staff but this is not real life so I honestly don't know what he was thinking unless he finally grew tired of hiding his lack of taste.
  5. I grew up in Chicago so have always loved Coach Singletary and was really glad his team got the win. Plus, Colton annoys me. I have never watched The Bachelor so have no experience of him other than this show, but there's just something off-putting about him that I can't get past. I have never watched any Housewives either, and have a similar feeling about Eboni so I won't miss her. Really like Ray, Craig, and Paulina. I don't mind Jodie but I feel like she is somehow more aware of the cameras. I'm just not sure they needed to put them in this much physical discomfort/danger in their living situation. It could still be rustic and be out of their comfort zones without being fully exposed to ants, animals, etc. Not being rested puts them in more danger of hurting themselves on the adventures, and I just don't think it's necessary.
  6. I 100% agree with you, and it's completely accurate in context for Lucille to call her patients "precious" (and for Trixie to call hers "sweetie"). My 2022 American self is bugged by it, but I'm sure if I were in 1960s Poplar I would feel differently.
  7. I may be in the minority but I do not like when Lucille calls women "precious" - it would drive me nuts. I would pick Phyllis for sure. She can call me "lass" all day long.
  8. Yes! The mix is off, and many of these singers don't enunciate at all. I don't expect operatic diction, but if the lyrics are meaningful, I'd like to know what the heck you are singing about.
  9. I'm not sure I agree with this. There was Trixie's friend who died - she was married and stable, just didn't want to have another child and had the abortion (I think) without her husband knowing. There was the sister who wanted to be a model. She was single, and I know there was a huge stigma to being an unwed mother but we've seen adoption and single motherhood in other storylines, but she chose abortion.
  10. I did not like the RHCP daughter's (Maybee) performance tonight at all. Waaaaay over the top. If you want to show off your voice and over-emote, pick a song where that might work. The performance and emotion has to be in service of the song. I think that too many singers don't actually think about what the lyrics mean and try to interpret them as the basis for their performance. The lyrics don't even have to be deep and meaningful for that to work. I thought the platinums sounded really good toward the end, with Hunter Girl (ridiculous name, IMO) sounding the weakest by far.
  11. I liked the Lucille/Cyril storyline, and the squatters. Am I mistaken or was the same guy both the hippie chick's dad and the clairvoyant's son? That was a little too coincidental if so. Covid protocols were evident in the last scene between Patrick and Shelagh - holding hands across the table instead of him holding/hugging her? She needed to be wrapped up in his arms.
  12. I agree it's at least partly, if not mostly, generational. The other thing I've noticed in all the posts from those of you who learned stick is that your parents had manual cars. Therefore, you had a certain familiarity from riding with them and seeing how they coordinated their feet and hands, even if not consciously. That is a tremendous advantage over someone who hasn't ever been in a manual car. You would be much calmer in figuring it out for yourself.
  13. The Great Canadian Baking Show has its own YouTube channel with full episodes
  14. This had me absolutely sobbing. I loved Barbara as a character, and the Phyllis/Barbara relationship. My first thought at hearing that Cyril/Lucille's wedding would be the Christmas special was that the last midwife wedding in the snow was Barbara and Tom. I loved everything from Phyllis's reaction to seeing the dress hanging on the hook, to reading Lucille's lovely note, and seeing Phyllis gently kiss the pearls during the ceremony.
  15. I know nothing about "It's a Sin" but very much enjoyed the episode! Nathaniel is so tall, he was towering over everyone and everything (including the refrigerators).
  16. Oops you are right of course, they had two seasons. There are four books in the series, and I enjoyed reading them all. I do hope they give Fenella more to do on CtM in the next season!
  17. I loved Home Fires, and was so shocked they didn't get a second season. I ended up buying the followup books that continued the stories - not quite the same as seeing it acted out but I could picture all the people. So fun seeing Fenella Woolgar show up on Call the Midwife.
  18. I think they always try to do something in the technical which most of the bakers won't know (with a few exceptions, and those are for notoriously fiddly bakes or they add things like the tuiles with the sticky toffee puddings from this season). The idea is the test their instincts and experience as bakers, and their ability to read and interpret the recipe. It backfired a bit in this case because the instructions seemed straightforward but because it was called a "tart" it was easy to think you had to fit the dough up the sides.
  19. I agree about the rice krispies in general, but I think in this case the "centerpiece" was meant to be more decorative than edible. The focus was really on the entremets. I did feel bad for Juergen during the handshake-palooza, but I'm OK with him going. He is a very good baker and a sweet man, but any of the other three will be better "spokespeople" for GBBO going forward. Not that I think that has any bearing on the judging, but now that it's more expected for the winner to put out a cookbook and make appearances, etc., I can more easily see Chigs, Crystelle, or Giuseppe in that role. Really looking forward to the final!
  20. But you said you don't like caramel??? ;-)
  21. How much help do you think they get? I can't imagine they come up with these recipes on their own. We did see one of the home economists in the kitchen, telling Joe to tidy up (OMG is he a mess!).
  22. I enjoyed this series more than I thought I would, having never watched any iteration of Master Chef before. I'm happy with the winner.
  23. I let out such a squeeeeeeee when I saw Will on the preview!!
  24. Noooooooooooo! I'm so sad, but it was probably the right choice. I will miss hearing Geanina calling him "Georgie" and their always-positive attitudes.
