  1. I'm probably alone with this but the ending disappointed me for the same reason "Dirtbag" did. A big reason I liked both shows was the main characters were often unlikeable women who while had their struggles lived rather subversive lives. I think that is an important take to bring to the dialogue. Not every woman has to look a certain way want the same things etc. Ultimately both shows let me down with the disappointing wants each woman turned out to have at their core.
  2. What did Alba say she was going to be doing that night when she held out a bottle of pills with a bottle of wine?
  3. Obviously everyone who ends up on this show has a very solid baseline of denial and magical thinking and all that. I really don't expect Marvin who is what, 19 I think? to know or give much thought to how the fashion world really works. He's 19 and starting out his sexual life and he probably just thinks something along the line of "hot guy /says he's a model / he's good looking enough to be a model / ok he's a model". I can see him justifying the weird improbability that a super successful model happens to live in Joplin for some vague personal reasons (ie. maybe he's a model with a heart of gold and he spends most of his time in Joplin to care for his adorable but ailing granny and flies to NYC/Paris/Milan as needed! ) I don't even remember where my mind was at 19 but wow would I not want it on TV the stupid things I fell for at his age and even much older.
  4. Mecca was the one who got catfished, Tanner was the chronic liar.
  5. Yes, there's that. Also how do you "date" someone who will only Facetime with you while hiding under a large hoodie as they barely emerge from a shadowy corner? I really wanted to throw something at my screen tonight.
  6. So is this what we're doing all season? Giving local businesses a tv appearance boost while wrapping a repetitive catfish narrative around it? It's not looking all that casual anymore. I feel used :(
  7. ITA all three of your points! Stevie is just really unlikeable to me now. One note and rather repellent. I wouldn't want to spend time with her irl. Also, she kind of grates against anything really fun about the people around her.
  8. Crying Fatfish/CrouchingDragon version #354 The Cookie Monster just ramped my Max crush to pretty heady levels, tbh

    Finished S-Town just now!
  10. That was amazing! Great twist great writing great performances from all! Ps I don't know what I'm gonna do if I don't find info on that blue velour hooded coat Rihanna was wearing!
  11. I had reservations in the beginning of the series (mostly didn't think that Pete Holmes' acting chops would be equal to the task) and hung in because of the cool comedy guest actors but I'm totally loving it now. I actually cried a bit when he got the job and opened the door to his hotel room. You could really feel how he felt and that he knew that he earned this. They really established how much he was struggling at that point and Sarah was really really kind to him in a "teach a man to fish" kind of way. Of course she gave him a very big "in" but the rest he did on his own. I also thought his innocent, kind friendly quality really helped him to even get to the point where someone like her would help him out.
  12. Damn, I sure do think that Danny is a creepy, controlling, waaaay out of touch with reality stalker. He follows a photo he thinks is hot over more than one site even though his first attempt to contact was ignored and then planning a life with someone he's never met who he want's to "fix". OK then! Zero sympathy from me. ETA I did like how he handled the Catfish situation after the big reveal and he obviously had a huge role in the guy's transformation. I hope he continues to do well.
  13. I really liked Alante. He seems like a really great guy has it together (even had a root plant starter in a vase)! I normally don't get why someone would let an online only thing drag on especially when you get sketchy behavior added in but I have to say in his case I give him a bit of a pass for several reasons even though 8 years is really too much. First of all this started in high school. Second of all he seems to work waaaay too hard and long and has a small child so in some way this would be Relationship Lite and would actually suit him. Of course I can see how letting this go on for so long is ridiculous but then again given his situation I can also see how he could slide into it and let it stay that way.
  14. I'm glad India won. Having said that, omg that was the least festive ending ever. Also no trip no go sees. Weird. I get the feeling the judges were all miserable to be there and hated each other.
  15. I spent about a year couch surfing in NYC and I think this show has some very nice details about how disorienting it is to wake up in someone else's specifically NYC home. Especially those who are in your field but more successful vthan you are. And how you get oddly priviledged peeks into their most personal moments and sometimes get sucked into their dramas and disfunctions while your own act as brief entertainment distractions for them. However this show has quite a few glaring problems that surprise me as much as the ones with John Mulaney's failed sitcom did.
  16. She doesn't need a job to get money! Money LITERALLY grows on trees! Look it up!
  17. Sending Courtney home is bullshit! I guess her failure to lie about their shitty lipstick got her booted. I hope she does well.
  18. If that is their big season opener then I don't know. So who chats and flirts and falls in love with a random phonecall? I know she knew it was her ex that time but didn't she strike up a phone friendship with a 300 yo man before?
  19. YES! So much yes to this. She's using shorthand and it's becoming unbearable to me. She's not even a person anymore. This can be a comedy and still show actual human beings!
  20. I'm laughing because I loved this episode and so many didn't. I actually teared up during the scene where David finds out his parents paid for his clients. It obvious played a huge role in how he defined himself, the thing he could always go to when he needed to feel good about himself. I thought the acting was great from both actors too. I actually thought Stevie's reaction to David's telling her about this revelation and how much it was hurting him was really insensitive. She was just seeing everything through the lenses of her cultivated bitterness. You can coddle and buy things for your children, even (especially?) your adult children to the point where it actually harms them. Why diminish David's right to be devastated about the lie he'd been living?
  21. Oh! Some of you reminded me, PAPER had a "moment" about what, 20 years ago? Even then it was a very specific hipster self consciously alterna downtown crowd readership so I literally howled when someone yelled something to the effect of "Your face will be seen on the cover by the entire WOOOOOORLD!" Ahem. No, it won't be. Come on.
  22. This is the first ep of the entire series where I actually thought "wow what a bad episode". I really don't want to stop watching because I have really found it unique and enjoyable up until now. The Rose children seem to be permanently coasting with no dialogue other than their supposed sibling shorthand squints, whines, moans and uptalks. Not enough any more. It was funny the first few times. Enough. Even if it is partly or even entirely improvised (Curb Your Entusiasm, all the Guest films etc) there was a basic storyline followup lacking this week.
  23. I will never ever believe that Rita Ora is "swarmed" by paparazzi! Come on! Geez, I'm so annoyed with her every week. I was so thrilled that crazy ego monster Tyra was gone and now this? Frankly I'm still freaking out about her "I want to fuck you" comment to India (I think?) from a previous ep. What if a man had sad that? What is her problem? Loved seeing Mickey Boardman and as usual the platinum blonde judge cracks me up. Wow he really hates Courtney! I like her. I'm fine with either her or Courtney winning. Glad the ancient twin "drama" is over.
  24. I keep thinking back fondly on the Seinfeld eo where he played a gay bully armoire thief and had Kramer totally frozen with fear.
  25. I finished Season 2 Friday and I'm going nuts in my solitude. I'm dying to talk about it all.
