At Home With Amy Sedaris - General Discussion

I absolutely love this show. I really don't think I'd be able to describe it to anyone, though? Anyone? It's so original and bizarre and brilliant, therefore, yeah, it won't last. -
Once again the show thinks something gross and pathetic is funny and cute and playful. Big fail.
-
Sorry but...R.I.P.

I had similar thoughts. Before I ever heard any rumors I was already rolling my eyes at him by the last season of ''Louie". Just saying that because it's not the only thing informing my opinions of his work.
-
This is perfect. His creepy silent treatment on their first date would have sent me away, screaming. Instead, the as usual, tone deaf show was playing it all like ''SURPRISE he's not a crazy, high maintenance creep he's just SENSITIVE''. Nope. The scene in the truck had that cloying, precious Louis CK stink all over it.
-
She really does which made me extremely disappointed and surprised to hear her disparage it last night's ep. I wouldn't have believed tha the character nor the actress would ever do such a thing.

I really appreciated how Abby stepped up immediately after Darlene called her out. I'm too am worried about the way her pimp is glaring at them. I hope she goes to live with her aunt.
-
Do you mean women only residences?
-
Perfectly said. It really annoyed me.

What a tone deaf train wreck of a show this is becoming. I can see clearly now that I'm supposed to think Sam is all kinds of fierce. Nope. She thinks she's being "nice" by fucking a guy she's loathed from the moment she clapped eyes on him? That's not being nice that's being messed up. Not the end of the world, not a war crime or anything but why is she abusive to him in public like that? Calling him she because well of course what could be more degrading than being a woman, right Sam with three daughters who also insist on male versions of their names? All the guy seemed to do was act in good faith because she acted like she liked him. Wow. Also leaving that party was all kinds of feral. She doesn't seem to know how to behave and now I fully get why her daughters are all awful as well.

With a show like this I really need to like her. After what she did to her mom at the end of last season I really tried to like her but I can't. I just can't. And yeah. I think I was supposed to find Sam all kinds of fierce and smart and scary with how she "handled" this creep but fuck that. She should have cut him off at the very start. 16 yo? Jail. Fuck over her best friend? Hell to pay. How fucked up was it to watch Sam's good friend at the party see her ex walk in with Sam's daughter. Her 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER? Also, Sam's smart enough to have figured out how to obliterate this creep without tripping off her daughter.

This rarely happens for me but the show is getting even better. Not only did I laugh at the gags (also laughed at the bus thing) I teared up at the end.

I also want to know how the kid got the comic book in the first place and why Ivy just shoved it back in the drawer given how freaked out Ally was by it.
-
I am aware that the murder happened after they hired the babysitter but I was surprised that they hired her on the spot. I expected them to be more cautious etc. given how they both seemed. Also, Ally seemed really upset with how she handled everything during and after the murder (she screamed at her about why didn't you call the police). I'm fascinated by the theories here about who may be secret clowns and if Ivy did in fact switch the food. I also can't wait to figure out what is behind the door with the rose on it.
-
Being a lesbian with a fear of holes has got to be a challenge. No wonder she's sobbing all the time. I can't stand Ivy already. I'd enjoy it if the theories about her gas lighting Ally came true. The only thing that could drive me away is too much Joker Lite. I'm over his schtick already. The babysitter didn't make sense to me. Why would they hire this weirdo and especially after what happened with the murder. I'm disappointed they got rid of that couple and in the very firs ep no less. They seemed interesting and very watchable. Anyway, I'm down to clown. Hope this series doesn't nosedive the way the others have for me.

Agree on both counts. I thought if that line swept her off her feet what sort of rancid come ons is the poor goor used to?

I agree that Caitlyn wasn't a dumbass BUT. She was raped. Had to move back home. Had a baby with a man she now has a restraining order on. Am I right? I think if she isn't already she really should be in very intensive therapy. If she is maybe it isn't working as well as it should for her to be this gullible and vulnerable. She was crying way too much over him for my comfort zone. I don't think she's at all ready to date. She has a small child. I know we're all impressed with her because she ultimately didn't go for this douche BUT. She was extremely vulnerable and basically needed the help of a tv show to end things. Why did they get as far as they did? Did she for a moment consider moving her and her little child to Kentucky? IF he hadn't been dumb enough to let his douche side seep through she very well may have and then what would have happened? Another restraining order if she's lucky to get out alive this time. I think being overly impressed with her is setting a very low bar.

Oh yeah, I remember that now. So she likes that about him and that he takes care of her, I guess. Poor Arthur.
-
Yeah they really should have addressed that, it's sloppy writing in my opinion. You just reminded me that I also couldn't deal with/buy the way Julie tries to please her mom. It just ended up bumming me out but didn't really make sense, it didn't line up with how I think her character has been developed. I really don't know what the bond between her and Arthur is she totally treats him like crap. I want more Arthur and I love Billy's brother.

I absolutely love this show and the performers are excellent. However I'm getting really freaked out over Issa's sexual behavior. The no condoms thing as many here have mentioned already but also, going to a stranger's house for sex then laughing at his tickly fingers? That's dangerous in my books. You don't know how some man you don't actually even know will respond to being laughed at during sex! Gah! I did love the whole idea that someone can be attractive but the way they touch you is totally wrong. The super who is super into Gossip Girl killed me. I love those little details in the show. I never liked Lawrence. From the beginning he was a toxic blend of annoying, boring and pissy. I think she needs and deserves more. I liked that Tasha called him out even though yes she is also partly to blame but he really acted like an asshole.

Same. Wow so I watched the first three eps on Hulu last night and it's really bad now. Had to wait ten minutes to get one meh level gag. It's over I guess. Why isn't it funny anymore? It's just not. I'm so disappointed, was really looking forward to this season.

Yep there are totally cell phones in prison (smuggled in). Also, I'm sure Max and Nev would have little problem digging up a fame hungry criminal. I used to like this show for all the outrageous lies the Catfish told vs their reality and all the outrageous denial their victims were steeped in in order to believe them. I really felt this episode was so extreme in it's cruelty that any lying Ashleigh had done paled in comparison. One may say she knew going in what the show was about but frankly I'm not sure she's all that cynical or savvy. I think she was totally coerced into it. I'm not into Catfish Snuff.

Seriously! How could they do that to her? While we watched as we were all set up for tear jerking Robert sympathy too. They never should have let it get that far, let alone aired it. They could have stopped this, it wasn't some runaway train situation.
