I can’t stand Dashiell and his annoying daughter. As much as I still think the actress playing Marion is the weakest link in this show, Marion the character can do way better than say a 35+ yo governess with zero prospects who would most likely jump at the chance. If I had my way Larry would fall madly in love with Emily Roebling. Maybe he thinks that old hens make the best soup? I too really think Peggy needs her own show but I actually found the footage of what the restaurant owner had to endure interlaced with the relatively trite drama over Duke’s dinner kind of poignant. However I don’t trust JF as a writer enough to give him credit for that. Every time she’s on the screen I think how she seems to belong in those corny propaganda films from the 40s. The acting is so stylized and dated. She even looks black and white to colorized. She’s Uncanny Valley Shirley Temple.

Yes! She was always such an obsessive hater. I love her. In the previous season the rest of the staff was always shocked by the stuff she was saying about Bertha not measuring up.

For sure! She should leave (more than) well enough alone. She is risking it all but I fully understand the spite impulse.

I am totally Team Turner and also Team Oscar. I have no problem with them doing what they’ve been doing to get the lives of their dreams in a ridiculous society. George is an actual villain and Bertha supports that. Of course I understand why so many viewers like watching their personal stories though but I find their burning love a bit improbable given how long they’ve been together.

I have no problem believing that Turner’s new husband knows and doesn’t care about her background. As a matter of fact I can believe someone wealthy, powerful and old would see it as a flex. He can do whatever he pleases.

Yea 3 million but no castle level fencing surrounding the entire property and seriously locked up gates etc to keep the freakshow neighbors out? The immediate expensive renovations was ridiculous. I hate Ryan Murphy and hate that he gets any work let alone this much. I can’t escape him. I didn’t even know this was his until it was too late and I had to finish watching the entire series.

I was just thinking how they wouldn’t even have to forcefully implant, they would have volunteers to carry to term for the greater good. Enslavement and rape are the whole entire point. Lydia is presumably a true believer and Lawrence is a strange deeply complex person but I love how inscrutable they all are. I guess same can be said about Serena and Nick whereas Nick and June are very clear about who they are and what they’re after.

So if they have the ability to harvest a uterus then they certainly can bypass the rape ceremonies and do IVF or whatever. OR just leave people alone to live their lives. They came up with religious bullshit tied into the general fears of extinction so that the commanders can run roughshod. I think there were people who helped form this society early on who “meant well” and maybe Lawrence is one of them? He was definitely fucking with Lydia to expose their compliance in the horrific abuse. I would really enjoy seeing Lawrence and Naomi married.

I love anything Victorian era, crypto creatures (especially lochness monster and their cousins) so I am really disappointed by many things here. I don’t want to hear “slow burn” anymore, who has the patience and time to risk a dud? The writing is terrible. I had also hoped the monster would be real. The vicar marsh-fucked Cora BEFORE he even knew his wife was dying! Great guy! Am I supposed to give a shit about him? ETA: he was so busy pining after Cora he didn’t even notice his wife was coughing up blood and generally unwell?! They could have had a good storyline with a queer Victorian era maid but they can’t seem to really commit to much with her. At first I liked the surgeon and thought he was a good time but he suddenly turned into a total creep. I keep comparing how people in this show behave sexually with the people in Gilded Age. Just stuff like Cora sleeping with her maid and the surgeon coming by to hang out with them for days etc etc. I’m not sure how they’re going to wrap this up in the one remaining ep whatever it is they’re even supposed to wrap up. I can’t imagine there will be a second season.

I’m so angry and disappointed. I wanted Ruth to be the only survivor of the bunch. I desperately needed to see the Byrdes either killed or in prison. Ruined. Also the episode was just plain bad. No way would Ruthie who was born ready just walk up to that car like that no gun nothing. No way. I feel so cheated.

I was really disappointed in this series. I found it terrible overall. Badly researched, incomplete information but plenty of vague fear. Also nothing I hadn’t heard before. I’ve known to avoid talc based baby powder for about forty years now because of the asbestos. However it is in almost every face powder blush and eyeshadow. Most cosmetics have it listed and I am pretty sure I’ve even seen it listed in some medication tablets. How did the young woman with mesothelioma get sick? Was it from baby powder? Then why did her mom say she felt guilty about encouraging her to be a makeup artist? The man who had no viable sperm blamed it on everyday bath products that most people use daily. The curly hair products segment was also off to me. Do i believe some products are going to be harsh and inappropriate for certain hair types? Sure? Cause irritation? Again sure but I was very suspicious of the influencer who got so severely I’ll from hair products. Messed up her hearing. Bags and bags of hair fell out. Maybe they were using way more than a normal person would? I don’t know and the show didn’t really get to the heart of what was in this stuff. I’m not saying the whole issue is bullshit and I’m thinking maybe slathering on my scented hand lotion twenty times a day is something I should continue to do with wild abandon but I’m also not about to start making my own products either. Lost of “natural” stuff out there is often contaminated and unsafe too. I’m actually surprised HBO aired this series tbh.

Oh I am not defending what she did. I agree with you. It was a disappointing betrayal for sure! She shouldn’t have done it. I just think she basically has no chance in life after what she’s done and he seemed to go way harder than he should have.

OMG Bertha spitting out feathers!!! I can’t believe someone as smart and ambitious as her would even think of sneaking into Astor’s place like that! For some reason I thought Raikes was also going to be in Newport? What on earth does “safe as brandy” mean? Sorry to say both Agnes and George lost points with me after this episode. George really went overboard to ruin his former stenographer. He was way nicer to Turner even. Too much. I highly doubt that woman has ever had an awesome life or any future hope of one so why make it that much worse especially since he seems to have more money than anyone really needs. No way is it ok for Agnes to pick her wretched racist maid over Peggy. If Peggy’s father did indeed take her living baby from her and let her think he died just so she would divorce a husband she loved and come work with him then that would make him one of the most vile evil tv characters ever. I hate most of these characters amd their stupid adherence to really hateful rules. Marion is ridiculous. They better wrap up this storyline next week. I need to see Raikes finally exposed while I still give half a shit.
