  1. Some seasons back, there was a rule about distance. I clearly remember Anne and Robert Irvine getting into it a bit about the other crossing an invisible line and that was season 2. I agree that they ought to revive that rule. Rachael was impeding Ann and making her nervous. I also agree that Jesse Palmer sounded like he was reading lines. In previous years, all the judges sounded like that so I suspect Claudia and the other guy were just better at covering it up. I'm still laughing at the vision of Claudia as a creepy clown. Not nice but....................................... :) That seems to be the case but, in my mind anyway, a host and a judge are two different things and don't have to meet the same requirements. I don't have a problem with him as host (although I prefer Bobby Deen).
  2. I don't know that I'd even like Daniel if I met him personally but I was rooting for him. Ann seems like a nice person but she would drive me nuts with her histrionics. And she said "on fleek." Twice. Gah. Rachael would make me nuts too. She does her contestants no favors by doing everything for them. Anne is a much better teacher. I couldn't stand Claudia when she was on MC so I wasn't exactly delighted to see her again. I can't look at her big red mouth without thinking of The Joker. I wonder how FN came to use her as a judge when they couldn't even bring themselves to utter the words "Master Chef" in her introduction. How is Jesse Palmer a food expert? In his introductions, they just say "football player." No food blogger or cookbook author or anything related to food. I wonder how he ended up on FN.
  3. I came here to say the same thing. Justice and Cole would have fit into that season but none of the others, especially disrespectful Kaniyah. I got a kick out of seeing little Jackson again after seeing him more grown up on the holiday show last year. He's a darling.
  4. I could easily be wrong but I thought the reason the headdress didn't fit the challenge was simply because the huge feathers didn't seem to come from that bleak, barren, browned-out landscape. They looked more tropical. I guess the character could have been wearing them when she survived the apocalypse but that seems like a big stretch.
  5. Loved the recap, Monty - much better than the show actually. The only character I liked at all was the one that won. Cig and George earned that win. The rest all looked muddy and boring although I did like Emily's headdress even if it did seem out of place. I hope Keaglan and Melissa end up eliminated next because I was sick of looking at them the first time around. That hat Keaglan had on was beyond ridiculous. She tries so hard to be edgy or something that she just looks foolish and juvenile.
  6. Thanks, Maverick. I Googled Jesse Palmer and found a football player. No one who had anything to do with food. Based on seeing many recent Chopped judges, I guess that's no longer a criterion for judgeship.
  7. Is Jesse Palmer the guy with the chiseled cheekbones who hosted that awful grandmas' show? He might be OK if he's a little less effusive.
  8. I enjoy both shows. They aren't supposed to be profound. I do wish Geoffrey and the judges on his show would tone down the enthusiasm and the "pro move!" a bit but, otherwise, I'm happy.
  9. I don't know where else to put this................................. I was half watching the commercial tonight for the upcoming season and got just a glimpse of the host. I didn't look fast enough to see who it was but it wasn't Bobby Deen. Does anyone know why he isn't hosting this year? I've become quite fond of him and I'm going to miss him.
  10. Thank you both! Of course I saw all that goofy stuff but I thought you meant something that affected outcome like................... I don't know, maybe Rachael's mumbling to herself didn't really happen during the cooking for example. The episode sort of looked like someone in production has been watching too much vintage Batman.
  11. What did they add post-production and how could you tell? I'm not disputing your observation. I'm just not good at spotting stuff like that.
  12. Wow. I'm kinda stunned. I was so sure that Laura would be a finalist that I was floored by Rachael's choice. Based upon what we saw all season, I can't think of a single reason why she would have more faith in hyper, disorganized Ann. I wasn't surprised that Anne chose Daniel because I don't know how Mandy made it as far as she did. Anne usually favors "girl chefs" and she hasn't seemed to even like Daniel all season so I give her credit for being objective. That whole bit with Rachael talking to herself and not listening to the contestants describing the dish she was making seemed totally phony as did the little "spat" about Rachael being too helpful when she shouldn't be. Phony or not, Anne was right.
  13. Thanks for posting that, Quilt Fairy. I really enjoyed it. I love all those Ninjas and Matt and Akbar are hilarious. I do wish the airline hadn't required Grant to cut his hair. He was so cute with all those curls.
  14. I don't understand how Damaris is suddenly a baking expert. She does the same thing on this show that she does on GGG - goes overboard with her "expertise." She's very pretty and I don't dislike her but her voice is hard to take. I wish she'd talk a lot less.
  15. You did a lot better than I did. I figured the woman who used large chunks of butterscotch was a faker. I liked the balloon guy although I think I'd be embarrassed to admit that's what I did for a living. I like Buddy. He does have that Joisey accent and he's loud and extroverted but he's legit. That's who he is and he's always the same no matter what show you see him on. His huge, boisterous Italian family is the opposite of my small, reserved one and I'd probably find them exhausting if I spent much time with them but I'm secretly a little bit jealous. I've never heard of pumpkin and chocolate together either. It doesn't sound bad to me but I'd never describe the combination as "classic."
  16. When this show started, I thought Cole was way too impressed with himself. After weeks of watching him, I now think that he's just more introverted than the rest of them and is someone who takes things seriously and is hard on himself if he makes a mistake. He seems like an intelligent boy who will grow up to be a success, possibly with a stress ulcer. :) I quite like him now. Kaniya is a cute girl but she's such a little show off that I mostly want to smack her every time she starts talking. Her pineapple upside-down cake did look good. I wonder how this show finds contestants and what criteria they have to meet. It seems like there must be a lot of kids in a country the size of the U.S. who have baking talent yet, despite all the talk these days about childhood obesity, they cast two seriously overweight boys and also a daughter of an employee. To clarify, I don't think the boys' weight would be an issue on some other show, Chopped Junior for example, but they didn't seem like the best choices for a baking show.
  17. I enjoyed the show. It was fun to see so many fan favorites but I did wonder why Kevin Bull wasn't there. It was good to see Geoff Britten. I thought he'd said he wasn't going to compete any more but maybe he meant in the regular competition which would mean serious preparation. This show is just for fun.
  18. I think his name was Adam but I wouldn't swear to it so I have to agree. Aside from his greasy hair, I liked him. He seemed relatively normal. I don't know what airline Ann works for but, if I ever get on a plane and see her in charge, I'll probably get back off. She seems like a nice person but how can someone who is such a s*** be responsible for a planeload of people? I shudder to think how she'd react in an emergency. I like Laura and I hope she wins. If she's really an attorney, she can't be as airheaded as she acts. I'm inclined to think that the ditzy persona is really her sense of humor.
  19. I think John was justified in saying that. He, Shirley and Sheldon were the top three who earned their way to the finals. It wasn't until Brooke came back from LCK that they became the final four. Maybe it's semantics but it does seem to me that there's a difference.
  20. My PBS station has been showing Master Class on Sunday afternoons which I've enjoyed. Then they suddenly started showing this old season with no explanation. I'm delighted to be able to watch it again but it did seem sort of random. I'm hoping they'll rerun all the seasons they have rights to now.
  21. I watched both episodes that were on back-to-back and I think I'm still suffering from an overdose of Melissa. I loathe her so much that she almost spoils a whole show for me. Even worse, Katherine McCord was also on one of the shows. She isn't too bad when she's on with people besides Melissa but she acts like she's channeling Melissa when they're together and it's almost unbearable. I wish they'd have Eddie and Troy Johnson all the time.
  22. The IMdB review was interesting and I agree with most of it. I hated the title - just tacky. Richard wasn't the best or the worst show host I've ever seen. As with all cooking competitions, I liked some contestants (and guest judges) better than others. What killed the show for me wasn't Richard. It was the humorless, know-it-all dietitian. None of the regulars seemed to be having any fun.
  23. I agree with everyone who has said that Brooke is an excellent chef but I've never liked her and the way she handled winning the vodka was a good illustration of why I don't. She was awarded a very expensive bottle of vodka that obviously had meaning to the fellow from Patron and she cracked it open and took a swig out of the bottle right there at judges' table. Self-centered, no class and very disrespectful of the sponsor.
  24. I read that comment hours ago and I'm still laughing. It looked to me like John had the worst cocktail but Shirley had the weakest dish so I was a bit surprised by the decision. Maybe her food was better than they made it sound during the critiques. Maybe they just wanted to get rid John. I felt a bit sorry for him having to contend with Katsuji at a time like that but he made the decisions that cost him so ................ I'm braced for a Brooke win next week but I'm not going to like it. Everything crossed for Sheldon.
