  1. Here are two stories from the local paper in Easton. The first one was written before the show was aired and the second one after. The comments fom local residents after the first article are quite interesting. http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/food/index.ssf/2014/05/we_didnt_fail_says_bella_luna.html#incart_most-read http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/food/index.ssf/2014/05/gordon_ramsays_kitchen_nightma.html#incart_river_default
  2. I was happy with the finale. I liked Robert and thought he earned the win. He looked absolutely stunned and speechless. I imagine Melissa was a close second. She'll probably go on to do very well. She's creative and talented and likeable. Ben's final creature looked like a green turtle sticking it's head out of a cloth bag with a drawstring. That gap between the creature and the shell was a big mistake. Overall, I was impressed every week by how much the contestants could accomplish in a few days. I hope there's a season two. Loved Brian Henson. Loved the show.
  3. My younger daughter lives in Easton. I remember her telling me that there was a lot of excitement when Ramsay was in town and also a lot of traffic problems due to gawkers. She said then that the producers were out and about actively looking for people willing to appear on camera to be diners at the reveal. She wasn't involved at all so she didn't have any details.
  4. I like EVERYBODY better than Robert Irvine. Now Kerry VIncent is doing the same show with bakeries which Buddy Valastro over on TLC has already done. Oh, and there was a bar rescue show that didn't make it also. I almost always end up feeling that undeserving people were rewarded for bad behavior so I'm not too sure why I keep watching these shows with the exception of Irvine's. I can't tolerate watching him at all.
  5. Yes! That was the first thing that came to my mind. I liked both of the top two creatures. I like Melissa but I preferred the lily pad because I thought making a hidden creature from what was essentially a flat surface took more creativity plus the eye opening was a neat surprise.
  6. I found it hard to believe that a girl that young (and obnoxious) has enough credibility to attract "affluent foodies" willing to pay to take classes with her. I suspect that those students were all friends of her parents gathered together for the photo session.
  7. I keep wondering what these people agree to when they sign contracts. I can't imagine why anyone would allow herself to look that bad on national TV. Is a free makeover worth letting everyone including your family and potential customers know how bad you allowed your business to get and how dumb and badly behaved you can be? Surely they know how things will go once Ramsay arrives. Julie didn't look like she'd even bothered to wash her hair before filming. She had no problem using foul language in front of her daughter although, as she hadn't fired a drug-taking kid who'd threatened her daughter, I guess that shouldn't be surprising. At the beginning, the screen showed her previous occupation as "realtor." I find that hard to believe. I wish someone who lives in the area would ring in and tell us if that place is still in business and how it's doing now if it is. I lost track of how many times Gordon said "Wow" with various inflections. Must have been dozens.
  8. Every season has ended with a performance I think. I didn't see season 1 but every one since has. The stated reason has been to test the creations under stress. The unstated reason is probably entertainment for the viewers - which it isn't IMO. I agree with everything Ketzel said above. I had no idea what was going on or why the DJ was jumping all around or why the contestants were laughing at various points. I just sort of tuned it all out. I thought the connection between the constellation animals and the creations was tenuous at best. I really couldn't see much relationship in any of them. I liked all three finalists and would have been happy whichever way it went. I'm thrilled for Rashaad.
  9. I like Bobby Flay so I enjoy this show. I also like that it's a half hour so filler is kept to a bare minimum. I wonder why FN is promoting Katie Lee so often. Maybe it's just because she's on The Kitchen. In any event, I don't like her and can't stand her voice. It seems very unlikely to me that she and Bobby are good friends like the show implied.
  10. I totally agree. Doesn't Colorado have health inspectors? Everything about that restaurant was disgusting and the walk in alone should have got it shut down. And speaking of disgusting............ Why on earth does Ramsay not wear gloves when he's handling revolting things? I know he washes his hands and carries sanitizer but who picks up a dead rodent like that? Or rotting meat? After seeing that place, I would never have put my bare hands under chair cushions. Bleccch. Edited to add: If I lived in that vicinity, I would never patronize that restaurant no matter how nice it looks now. It's still owned by people who served food made in filth. I'd never trust them.
  11. Thanks for posting that link. I'd give a lot to be able to visit that place. I don't usually care for ice cream colors and pinks in decorating but it all works there and looks marvelous. I love the credenza in the entryway and the dining room set and the wallpaper in the breakfast nook.

    The Judges

It's interesting how the same judges have widely varying effects on viewers. I like most of the judges and I'm partial to Geoffrey, Marc and Amanda. I think Maneet is gorgeous and I do like her but it seems like she says the same thing much of the time...."delicious bite but I wish...." The only one who consistently irritates me is Aaron. I thought he was really juvenile when he was ramming around on Heat Seekers saying "Bro'!" in every sentence so his studied pomposity on Chopped strikes me as an act. He's not like that at all on Chopped After Hours where he apparently doesn't feel the need to be pretentious and comes across much better. IMO of course. And I adore Ted Allen.
  13. That's actually my favorite part of an episode. I enjoy the montage every week. I also like the seemingly endless ways the graphics people think of to use the HK pitchfork before each break. I don't know what it takes to produce all those effects but they seem quite clever to me, definitely more clever than the contestants.
  14. Thanks for that information. I didn't know that I could catch the seasons I missed somewhere.
