I'm in the DC area and Hot Bench airs from 3-4 in the afternoon. I just saw a promo for Drew Barrymore's new talk show {!) premiering mid-September in that time slot. Is Hot Bench going away?

I really like the combination of the three. Michael (we refer to him as Papa Mike) is so willing to see the good in people, it sometimes is a strain. Acker cuts to the chase, and Patricia sometimes spouts off about things she knows nothing about. But they all bring a different perspective and it's interesting. I disagree with them sometimes on the verdict, but I'm not the one looking at the actual evidence. I read an interview with Acker once where she said that each case takes a while to hear and deliberate, so I know there's edit monkeys involved as well. Fun show! And thanks, my fellow snarkers, for answering my plea.

Since PTV reorganized the forums, no one's posting here any more. I miss the snark!

I've predicted a Nick/Michelle finale (with Nick winning) from the beginning. Why? They are the youngest. The winner isn't going to run anything, but I think Gordon is looking for the next Christina, Scott, Heather, etc. - someone with talent whom he can groom to be a valuable asset in his organization. Milly is too old - untrainable, as was the case with Jen. Ben is borderline too old - and also communicates poorly in the kitchen. I could see GR offering Robyn a job - she has shown the most growth since her original season and with proper tutelage could learn to be a valuable sous chef. Elise never had a chance - GR's organization doesn't have any time for her kind of drama. YMMV.

Iron Chef Showdown: Iron Chef Meets Beat Bobby Flay
beverlyoc replied to Skyfall's topic in Iron Chef America [V]
I watched last night's (with Garces as the IC) and two things that I have questions about: 1. WT actual F was Jaime (?) wearing? A track suit pair of pants paired with a pretty red top? Did she only expect to be filmed from the waist up? 2. After watching millions of seasons of NFNS, even I could judge better than those two judges. Everything was "nice", "delicious", "seasoned well", and/or "cooked well". Well, that was informative as heck. -
I call BS on April being stunned by Richard's old-school medicine. She was in the Middle East helping troops for a while - and they did that whole story about helping the foreign doctors who had nothing in the field. This show is usually fantastic about honoring history - not so much this time.

As always, I want to see Carol Burnett host. -
Andy, from season 6 of Hell's Kitchen. 'Nuff said.

xaxat - that's great! Thanks for sharing! -
Please don't throw any tomatoes at me (carpaccio or roasted), but Matthew is beginning to grow on me. His comments towards his fellow cheftesants are generally supportive and he seems pleased when they are doing well and/or improving. I think he has an unfortunate face - that half smile that looks like a smirk may be his equivalent of RBF, and he doesn't hide his emotions well. Coq a vin aside, he seems to have a good knowledge of food, and cooks well.

Seasons 9-12 are airing on Hulu now.

I watched the first episode of Comeback Kitchen last night via Comcast's On Demand. No spoilers, but I love Danushka even more than her first go-round. #Matthew appears to have finally matured a bit (emphasis on "a bit") , Jamika is good (I don't really remember her from her season), and the rest of the previously-ons are as annoying as they were on their respective seasons. I love Valerie as a judge. YMMV.

Did no one else catch Len's comment during judging to Nick (I think), something like "I heard you'll be back next week, so ..."? I rewound twice because I thought I must have misheard.

Has anyone seen FN's "Star Plates"? I've seen a couple and it's pretty entertaining. A celebrity goes to a restaurant and acts as line cook - it's only a half an hour long and my simple synopsis doesn't really convey.

The Shows of 2016: New Year, New Chefs, Same Sob Stories
beverlyoc replied to ShellSeeker's topic in Chopped
Mr. OC and I figured out a long time ago the best way to watch this show. We pause it after the intro stories and place a quarter bet on who will win the whole thing. After each round, we bet another quarter on who will go home. The winner of each round gets to keep the quarter s/he bet, and the losing quarter goes in a can. It actually makes it interesting and fun to watch -- and the can of quarters eventually gets converted to dollars that we use on vacations to pay for meals (seems appropriate). More often than not the two people we pegged to win are the final two. And we still snark all the way through. -
Guy's Grocery Games - General Discussion
beverlyoc replied to David T. Cole's topic in Guy's Grocery Games
Gibson and Helen (with blue hair) were both on season 2 of Rachael vs. Guy. I think maybe Gibson won, but can't clearly remember. Alessandra {?} I'm pretty sure was also on one of the seasons. -
I just want to say how irritated I am that the icon for "I say a little prayer for you" was Aretha Franklin. Yes, she recorded it, but Dionne Warwick (for whom Burt Bacharach wrote the song in the first place) made it a hit two years before Aretha. Dionne is an icon as well. Harumphing over.

Food Network and Cooking Channel: One is about food

Bob Tuschman is being replaced at FN by Didi O'Hearn. She joined FN in 2014 - and her claim to fame at FN is the horrible Celebrity Edition of WCA. I'll miss Kermit. :( http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/food-network-bob-tuschman-deirdre-ohearn-cooking-channel-1201684940/ -
Not sure if this is the right place for this, but Bob Tuschman has been replaced at Food Network. http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/food-network-bob-tuschman-deirdre-ohearn-cooking-channel-1201684940/ Didi O'Hearn's claim to fame is the ill-advised Celebrity Edition of Worst Cooks in America.

I was happy that Vinny and Trevor won the initial thing over poor stoner, grown--up Mikey, just for the anticipation of Joe stepping on Trevor. He remains one of my most-hated, over-inflated ego, contestant of Hell's Kitchen (but it's quite a list). I laughed and clapped my hands all the way through. I'm glad for Vinny, though. I don''t remember why he got booted from HK - but I think it was for screwing up the line when he was on meat? Which he kind of did on this, too.
-
I wondered the same thing. We didn't see them making the scones either, so I guess they were provided.
-
Karen was on an episode of Beat Bobby Flay - won the first round, went up against Bobby. I can't remember if she won.

Lovely, before FNS, was on Hell's Kitchen. I forget which season - but she was eliminated fairly early and never cooked anything of note. She was on the bottom every week before elimination. I was so happy to see her fast elimination from FNS. Can't stand her and her overblown opinion of herself.
