Yes, it was Isaiah Mustafa from the "I'm on a horse" and other Old Spice ads. It's too bad he was one thing that felt off in the episode. Clergymen don't generally seek out high school reunions to criticize women in the class who had children out of wedlock. They'd be way too busy if that was the case. The only point of that was to make Charmonique out to be a great mother. I don't find her a particularly good mother. Otherwise, some funny moments. I have to watch it on look back because of Time Warner's bad relationship with the CW.

I was amused by the reaction of the crew. "Are we going to a rave?" That explains plenty. Also, when Kat offered to make up for her oversleeping by doing a striptease, that summed up everything that is Kat Held. I don't think the season was bad. It's good to have someone to hate on a reality show and Kate filled the bill. Jennice got her comeuppance and Eddie is working his way up to being captain of the next Love Boat TV show.

The way I understood it, the crack in the universe (from an exploding TARDIS) never existed because the new Big Bang reset the universe without the crack and the TARDIS was reset. Anyone who went through the crack and was wiped from existence (Rory, Amy's parents) came "back" because the crack was removed from history. For whatever reason, Amy was still affected, being at the center of it all, so she could bring the Doctor back from the other side and Rory was still aware of his time as the centurion. Amy and Rory went back to the 1930s because of the Weeping Angels, which is a relatively simple line of reasoning for NuWho.

I remember the "stew soul mates" line. I get the impression that Amy tries more, which some people (Kate) seem to look at as fake. But even Amy laid it out there that she doesn't want to work with Kate again after Kate said likewise.

I think if you like Kat, you don't like Amy and vice versa. The same probably goes for Kate vs. Amy. I like Amy. Ben likes Amy, and Kat used to be his girlfriend. Has Amy ever had a problem with the guests on a personal level? Kate constantly wants to form a relationship with the guests (charter soul mate) then gets disappointed when they don't meet her expectations. She is told she seems bitchy, then rips up the scavenger hunt game (that no one asked for) and folds a penis on the primary's bed.

I guess if you can't imagine what a Health and Safety ID looks like, you wouldn't see anything. Plus, Clara probably doesn't have the mental energy needed. Remember when Rose and Captain Jack were swapping psychic paper? Clara with the sonic was annoying. Was she transmitting information to the Doctor? I doubt she learned how to read it since The Caretaker. On a totally unrelated note, when does the Doctor give his sonic screwdriver to River Song? If she returns, it would mean she knew the Doctor would have more than 12 regenerations for some time.

I would probably like that episode more than most this season. Were there sexy teens 100 years ago?

This episode was literally the opposite of The Lodger. In that episode, the Doctor was separated from the TARDIS and Amy was trapped inside. Eleven had to act (sort of) like a human for weeks. This time, the Doctor was the man trapped in the box and Clara had to prove she was a terrible Doctor. Actually, this was a lot like the movie Innerspace, but with a less noble human host. The Doctor was very much emulating Ten with "this plane is protected" and wiping out aliens because they didn't take their second chance to run. It was also like the Christmas Invasion in that the companion was able to keep things at bay until the Doctor showed up to actually save everyone. I'm kind of neutral on Mathieson as a writer now and I'm pretty sure Missy is going to be even worse than some of the plotlines so far.

I think that's definitely the case, but some rich people tip just because they're expected to by other rich people. Otherwise, why would a yacht crew ever expect a tip at all?
-
Considering most of the charters don't know how to act like rich people, I winder how much Bravo dictates the tips. I can't believe some of these charters would tip at all.

One of the things I tend to forget about is that Peter Capaldi is his role in the third season of Torchwood. I have a substantial mental block over seasons 3 and 4, but even before I knew who Capaldi was, I found his portrayal of Frobisher absolutely haunting. It's how I know he has the chops to play the Twelfth Doctor even given the material.

That's even worse. The TARDIS loves Clara? Time for a new TARDIS.

Can someone explain molecular gastronomy? All food has molecules. I think Kate doesn't like Amy mostly because she amplifies how shitty Kate is at the most basic parts of her job. Kate only wants to suck up to the guy who rented the boat, is incapable of smiling and takes points off every time her customer doesn't live up to her expectations. Amy understands that she's not a slave, but that she was hired to provide a premium service. Making $500 a day in tips makes her happy instead of miserable.

The internet thing was ridiculous. "Are we on satellite?" No, you tremendous tool, we're trailing 1000 miles of LAN cable behind us. When a boat has "Internet" or Wi-Fi or even "high speed internet" that means you can check your e-mail and your Facebook. It does not mean real time communication unless they provide actual specs about the bitrate and lag. It's just another example of what a moron this guy is. Besides, he got some free advertising for his Ponzi scheme with the T-shirts. I think they should have blurred them out.

I liked the thing Kat said about the people on the charter looking like they were trying to pay for the trip during the trip. That penny stock bullshit is gambling. If he invests his winnings in stuff and banks, he'd be okay. Instead, he will probably lose all his money in a few years. He's totally low class. He's only about money. He has a hot young girlfriend because he has money. He holds a wad of cash in front of the captain because he uses money as a weapon. He tells the crew that they should "invest" like he does because money = smart to him. Total douche. Jennice is now total Fatal Attraction on Kelley. I reverse my stand on him hitting it and quitting it. If they have sex, she is totally going to end up stabbing him. I liked how Ben bypassed Kate (and his old gf Kat) by assigning the signature dinner to Amy. Kate seems to think Amy is fake because she tries to be nice. Actually, Amy knows that confronting a stone cold bitch is pointless so she's going to do her job. Kate should try it sometime. Kate's font lesson was tedious, by the way. Ben really needs to understand his role on the boat. He's a good technical cook, but he can't take direction. You can make whatever crap you feel like at home or if you own your own restaurant, but the guests don't have much for dining choices and many people are not very adventurous about food.

The Doctor had one episode where the "chameleon" circuit was fixed and the TARDIS could appear as something else. That couldn't be constant thing because the show would lose something with perfect camouflage. That's the same problem with the exactness of the coordinates. When the TARDIS had less control, he might end up in danger. Now, he looks like a reckless addict for picking dangerous situations.

Now we know what Logan's problem is. Hitting on guests.

I meant the time between the aliens who were going to destroy earth and the next jump where Eleven comes back and Amy informs him 2 years passed (but doesn't mention the wedding). I think before the astronaut episode, the Doctor was tooling around for 200 years before he came back to see Amy and Rory.
-
Remember when the Doctor would show up late, like not seeing Amy for 2 years, and right before her wedding day? I'd love it if Clara waited for years to go on another adventure and Twelve showed up like nothing happened. It would be even funnier if she gave up, got married and had a child with Danny and the Doctor shows up "Let's go. What's that ugly little human attached to your bosom?" There are some interesting Perkins theories. What if the Doctor senses a presence this season? Sometimes it's the hand in the dark in "Listen" or the engineer who isn't there. What if Clara was trying to pass the Bechdel test and they needed a temporary companion to fill the gap?
-
Perkins is the companion the Doctor really wants but he still has to suffer with Clara. I was thinking about how much Amy and Rory's history changed with the Doctor. Rory died the second-ish time in Cold Blood. Earlier, future Amy and Rory were waving at time traveling Amy and Rory. At the end, it was only Amy waving at herself. Of course, the episode happened in 2020 and they were likely gone from history at that point because of the Angels. It's entirely possible that Clara is rewriting her own history and there will be no Danny Pink by the end of it.
-
When the Doctor found Clara through whoever gave her the phone number, he was desperate to find out who she was. The Doctor begged her to come with him, even letting Clara decide to go on an adventure and right back home. Now that she fulfilled her impossible mission at Trenzalore, Clara is just a more or less regular girl. The Doctor isn't begging her to stay, but still wants her around. Her times with Eleven were very much about her, like "Hide" and "Journey to the Center of the TARDIS." With Twelve, she isn't a mystery anymore, and maybe she's hurt by that. With all the talk about Perkins, I did notice how out of place he seemed to be. He was crew, and Gus didn't seem to have any problem with killing crew. PLus, he seemed the only one who was actually giving the Doctor useful information. He was also the only one who was still on the TARDIS near the end.

Except for Amy, Eddie and the new guy, Lee should have handed the rest of them an envelope with the tip and a plane ticket. They can either take the whole envelope or hand it back and increase the others' share. Of course, we already know that Bravo charters the boat and the cast are the guests as well as the "charters" who get the staterooms.
-
Jamie Mathieson mentioned in his AMA that he wrote Mummy before he knew the casting, so he pictured Twelve as Gregory House. I think that's part of the vibe I'm getting from more than just this episode. I've only watched a handful of House MD but that doctor is often callous, is more interested in beating the illness than treating the patient and has to be the smartest one in the room. The difference between House and the Doctor is that Twelve doesn't seem to have an axe to grind. I would be less critical of the show if the season was longer, but many episodes wasted time when there will only be 13 episodes (or less, I have no idea) episodes in a year. If there were 22 episodes, I might not be frustrated by the countdown to the "good" episodes at the end of the season.

Dammit! Clara is still there? There is a disturbing trend in NuWho where the Doctor is the bearer of bad news in the form of "I'm sorry but I'm going to have to watch you die now." At least he was true to his word. When he was targeted by the Mummy, he stopped it in 66 seconds. Of course, stopping a weapon by giving in reminded me of ST:TNG's "The Arsenal of Freedom" when Picard stopped a planet killing weapons system by agreeing to buy it. I find it very strange that the Doctor would go somewhere like that on an invitation and not know what the hell was going on. I have my suspicious that Gus has something to do with Scary Poppins. From what I gathered at the end of the episode, Clara has now accepted that she is addicted to danger, but still bargaining (as long as I get home on time, safe and sound). There are some companions who wished they could have gotten the same deal.

I think their bunks are normally just sleeping compartments. At least 1/3 of the crew seems to be up at all times, so two people may not be hanging out in their room at the same time very often. I think Kat is gone next season. Sober Kat is just annoying and not as much fun to laugh at. Amy should be chief stew, but Kelley would have to be gone. I'd say Jennice is a lousy deck hand, but she was better than Andrew and better than Kelley this episode. She needs to be able to work on the slide, though.
