  1. I finished A Remarkable Place to Die and really enjoyed it. The ending was a giant cliffhanger so hopefully there will be a Season 2. The music reminded me a lot of Brokenwood but this show was not as whimsical. The scenery is drop dead.
  2. I am watching A Remarkable Way to Die on Acorn. It is set in Queenstown, NZ with the most gorgeous scenery. The plot involves a female police detective who returns to her hometown and immediately starts investigating homicides - some of which may be tied to her past. I've recognized a few NZ actors from Brokenwood and The Gone. So far, so good.
  3. I do like how they have come up with inventive reasons why a particular cast member is absent from one or more episodes: father in hospital, boyfriend in rehab, going out of town for family reasons, etc.... Cracked me up. I can't stand Remy but have to admit he does liven up an episode with his nasty comments "Dr. Freud".
  4. Very interesting - and unexpected - twist. Also a good plot point for the next few episodes. Ava used to drive me nuts over the first few seasons but, as everyone has pointed out, she has really turned into a very good - albeit unusual - principal.
  5. I really loved the scenes in the bar with Matty and Olympia. I know it wouldn't be the best for dramatic purposes but I hope Olympia is not involved and that they can be friends. Neither seems to trust easily and it would be a shame to have the tiny bit of trust blow up. Every time that Matty is in open court, I keep waiting for someone to call her Mrs. Kingston.
  6. Thanks! I love many of the French series on MHz Choice.
  7. Late to the party but binging all of the episodes. I felt terrible for Billy. Continue to enjoy seeing Patricia Belcher (Mrs. B) who played a recurring role in Bones.
  8. Late to the party. I was under the impression that this would be a straight-up remake of Matlock so I was blown away by the twist. I'm not going to look too hard into any of the issues with the premise and try to just enjoy it for now. My favorite characters are the two associates.
  9. Watching The Gone on Acorn. Set in New Zealand, the mystery revolves around an Irish couple who vanish. The first recognizable face from Brokenwood is the actor who plays Wiki - she was the head of a female motorcycle gang on Brokenwood. Starting Episode 4 (out of 6) and so far, very good.
  10. I have definitely seen the trick with setting the watches forward in the interrogation with the child trafficking suspect somewhere before - possibly in one of the Will Trent books. I cannot specifically recall which one but I knew exactly what Will and Faith were going to do. I had no clue who Ariana was - never heard of her before. I really liked the Superwoman aspect and she had real chemistry with Ormewood. Having said that, the "Faith moving in with Ormewood" was not on any of my prediction lists. I liked the mention of Faith's mother's reaction to the apartment again. I cringed when Will left Betty tied up outside. I hope that Scott Foley does not turn out to be a bad guy - Angie could use some good things in her life. He still has it.
  11. I cannot stand Remy either and was happy to see that he was not in this episode. However, I was bored with the storyline. I had hoped that the rest of the team would have the opportunity to shine in his absence but that was not the case.
  12. I really like Scola and I like Scola and Nina together. Did not miss Maggie or a partner for Scola in this episode.
  13. I am on the 5th or 6th episode of Season 1 of the French version (with subtitles). I watch a lot of French mysteries and generally like them. I am not sure whether I would still be watching HIP if I had not watched the entire US version first. Part of my enjoyment is comparing the two series and seeing where the storylines diverge. I was surprised to see the the US version literally copied almost everything about the French version - including the names of most of the children, the opening theme music and the facial hair on Karadec. The biggest difference (so far) is the character of Morgan. I prefer the US actress and character; the French character is a bit too annoying for me. I also prefer Oz to Gilles, the French detective who works with Karadec and is portrayed as a bit of a goofball.
  14. Go for it. I'm really enjoying the French version but part of the enjoyment is comparing it to the US one.
  15. I loved this episode but the entire season had a bit too much of Mr. Potts. Really liked the glimpses of Blake's child - who strikes me as a Little Eliza. Renewed for Season 6!
  16. I just started watching the original French version on Hulu. It's the same - but different. It's actually funny how the actors playing Karadec have the same facial grooming and look very similar. The character of Morgan is the big difference. I've finished 2 episodes and am definitely hooked.
  17. Awesome episode! Loved all of the action in the morgue - especially Pete. Glad that the focus on the brother-in-law turned out to be a red herring. Shocked that Caroline actually survived.
  18. Just received an email from PBS announcing that Miss Scarlet has been renewed for Season 6. It further indicates that Moses is coming back! Miss Scarlet Renewed
  19. The Ink Black Heart book was my favorite Strike novel so far. I could not figure out how they would film it given the importance of the text messages - and the length of the novel. All in all, I think they did a very good job but the book was still far superior to the show. There was just so much detail in the book (1,024 pages!) that it is impossible to condense it into a 4 episode series. The book contained hundreds of pages of detail about the online characters in Drek's Game; they were barely mentioned in the show. Love Robin and Strike...and Pat. Can't wait for the next installment. It took me forever but I finally figured out where I last saw DCI Murphy - playing a bad guy in Hope Street.
  20. Isn't it way too obvious that the brother-in-law is the killer? I'm expecting a twist of some sort. Similarly, I like Sunny's dad and hope that he did not kill the missing store owner and take his watch. OTOH, Sunny is on my last nerve. I had tremendous sympathy for her at the start but her attitude is wearing very thin.
  21. I really enjoyed the finale - and wish next season was here already! The perp seems to always be a step ahead of the Team. How was he able to find out Morgan's name and address? I actually thought that they were going to kill off Oz. Morgan looked stunning in the pink gown. I do think TPTB is moving towards Morgan/Karadec but prefer to keep them platonic. I think that Tom is just Tom but do appreciate all of the ideas thrown out in this thread!
  22. TPTB seem to be creating chaos in each agent's personal life as a mechanism to write them off of the next show: Nina had to deal with her sister's issues and now Ray will likely be off dealing with his dad's medical crisis. Barnes was missing from earlier episodes for a reason I cannot recall - likewise for Hana.
  23. Felt terrible that the boy was sent back to Mexico to turn into a killer. The ghost guns were interesting - and terrifying.
  24. Bittersweet. I didn't think that Vera was being any more cross than usual. If Brenda wasn't planning to retire, this could have been just another standard Vera episode. IMO, could have easily gone a different way with Vera taking the promotion to a desk job and opening the door for Joe to take over her slot. Such a contrast with DCI Vera versus Retired Vera walking on the beach with her new dog and new hat. I wonder whether there is the thought of continuing a re-tooled series without Vera - similar to how The Closer morphed into Major Crimes? Enjoyed the Vera series-ending documentary. The actress playing the ME also starred in We Are Lady Parts, which is fabulous. I liked her very much - almost as much as the original ME.
  25. Evelyn Mitchell for the win! Love the actress and love the character's smarts in trying to escape and survive.
