  1. Oh Christ, it's Judith again. Michonne, come get your daughter.
  2. AMC is still milking that 'Ride with Reedus' bullshit. The folks at AMC must still think Reedus is cool. Who's going to break the news to them?
  3. It is PAST time to get rid of the Whisperers. They aren't scary or interesting. They're just boring and nasty. Of course that means that Gimple and Kang will keep them around FOREVER.
  4. So they didn't wear elaborate 'geisha' makeup like Sergio had his model wear. Some of the women in the pictures are wearing makeup but not the ones in 'warrior dress'. But I'm not surprised Sergio didn't know what he was talking about. He'd probably heard about these women warriors and filed the information away until he could use it to make himself look good.
  5. Thank you. I don't recall ANYONE accusing Sergio of 'cultural appropriation'. He WAS accused (rightly in my opinion) of lifting design ideas and themes from other designers. Nina was especially harsh because it was the SECOND time it had happened and, once again, Sergio widened his eyes and pretended he didn't know what she was talking about. As if. Sergio wanted an Asian model to fit his 'theme'. He didn't care if she was Chinese, Korean or Filipino. He just wanted someone who 'looked' Asian, whatever that means. Cultural appropriation is a very sensitive subject. People of colour are finally in a position to demand that their cultures be respected and some people seem to have an issue with that. If someone who wasn't Indian were to wear a sari because they think it's beautiful and comfortable, I don't think I would have a problem with that. But if the person made themselves up to 'look Indian', I would have a big problem with that. But I'm not from India so I can't speak for someone who is. Sergio didn't need to put geisha makeup on his model, especially since he was apparently honouring Japanese women WARRIORS who I doubt spent all that time making their faces up before they fought. He was just throwing a bunch of 'Asian things' in a blender and tossing the mixture up on the catwalk. THAT, in my opinion IS cultural appropriation AND offensive. But, as @LennieBriscoe said, Sergio wasn't criticized for cultural appropriation.
  6. Very well said, @hoosiermommy. Sergio's 'political' statements would be laughable, if they weren't so offensive. He has no problem exploiting other people's pain or other cultures for his own gain and advancement. I agree that he has no personal connection to the causes he claims he cares about. What kind of person would use the plight of children in cages to win a show about fashion? That's worse than casual bitchery for which other contestants have been dragged to pieces. Sergio is a good sewer and tailor. He has good enough taste and knowledge of fashion to steal from the best. But he's not THAT good and certainly not good enough to overcome the offensiveness of his 'borrowing' or his exploitation of serious issues for his own personal gain. Nina might be a 'bitch' (I disagree) but she's absolutely right to call Sergio out for his 'borrowing'. Imagine a show about writing where the judges ignored blatant plagiarism. It's the same thing. The saddest thing is that this show isn't about design any more. So Sergio is the best there is on this saddest of seasons. He'll probably win and then he'll have the nerve to claim that he's struck a blow for oppressed people everywhere.
  7. Apparently being mean to Nancy or simply not liking her, is the crime of the century. So what if Brittany and Delvin were sitting around snarking about Nancy? They didn't know she was there. And they had to live with the woman so they probably have more reason for casual bitchery than people sitting at home rooting for the poster girl for middle-aged women. Brittany DID tolerate Nancy's self-indulgent (and selfish) monologue while all the people who are nice TO HER FACE, ran to bed while snickering at Brittany for getting caught. I think Brittany felt sorry for Nancy and didn't want to hurt her feelings which isn't mean at all. I didn't hate Brittany either. She was just a typical 'artsy' girl to me. I think 'uncooked' is a good word to describe Brittany. Most of the time she seemed so 'raw'. I liked her 'avant garde' look because I loved the colour. I agree with whoever though she should have made the butterflies much bigger. There's no point in being discrete in an 'avant garde' challenge. Nancy had that massive tumour on her dress and did very well with it. Edited to add: Nina did NOT say that nobody could do an Asian theme because Galliano and McQueen had done it. And she didn't say that there was anything wrong with doing an Asian theme. What she DID say was that Sergio's look was a close enough reference to both McQueen and Galliano to border on theft. She then went on to remind Sergio that his blatant reference to another designer's work, while DENYING that he had even seen the work in question, was something he had done before. I think she was absolutely right. Sergio's work is often called 'vintage' which is a charitable way of saying that everything he does reminds people of something another designer has done in the past. He is an excellent pattern maker and seamstress and makes his clothes look gorgeous. But his design work is UNORIGINAL, to be charitable.
  8. I'm sure the judges get to see the behind the scenes footage of the contestants. How else are they going to know who to favour? Because it sure as shit isn't the designs. I don't blame Nina for despising Sergio for being a liar. I do too.
  9. I keep reading about how great Geoffrey is but I honestly don't see it. The only one of his designs that I can remember is his menswear jumpsuit. THAT was fantastic. The rest is a mishmash of 90s club kid fetishwear that didn't really interest me the first time it came around. Geoffrey seems like a nice person but he also seems like a man with a lot of emotional problems. There's been times when I thought there might be substance issues as well. I think the producers are counting on a BIG meltdown from Geoffrey. I've worked with a lot of designers over the years. Every season, designers decide what the 'theme' is going to be and create an image board for inspiration. Some of them include pictures of iconic fashion looks. There are companies that go around the world, seeing what the people they think are trendsetters (Black/Brown kids, Japanese kids, Black/Brown gay men, the ballrooms) are wearing and sell that information.EVERYONE 'borrows' and makes reference to past designs and designers. What I find offensive about Sergio is his refusal to acknowledge how much his work is borrowed from other (better) designers. He claims he buried himself in fashion when he was young. Yet he also claims that he never saw Galiano's backwards tuxedo. I'm convinced he's lying. EVERYONE who is slightly interested in fashion knows about that tuxedo. And I'm sure Galliano had seen something like it somewhere in his travels. I used to wear cardigans backwards with a necklace down the back after I saw someone do it somewhere. St. Laurent probably sent a backwards tuxedo down the catwalk during all the years he dedicated to 'le smoking'. Fashion is taking everything you've seen and learned, mixing it up and putting your own spin on it. Fashion is NOT STEALING. I don't care for Nancy because her 'story' doesn't interest me. I think the producers are riding how 'inspirational' she is; Elaine said as much. And it seems to be working. I don't know how much the judges like Nancy herself which means a lot, especially with this group of judges. I've disliked Victoria from the very beginning, back when people thought the way she pronounced 'faux' was cute. She was able to pronounce it last night, interestingly enough. What makes me dislike her the most is how churlish she is. Victoria seems to think that she DESERVES to be there. Her head is so far up her own ass that she doesn't realize that she's been given break after break after break. Designers way more talented than her in this season screwed up ONCE and were sent home. Victoria was allowed to screw up over and over and over again. And she never once acknowledged her insane luck. Chelsey and Delvin were much better and more consistent than Victoria, yet Victoria is the one going into Fashion Week. That's just pure unadulterated fuckery. This season has been a disappointment for me. I've only been impressed by a few of the designs I've seen. I can't stand Karlie. The judges haven't impressed me with any particular insight. And I didn't care for most of the designers. This show has become less about how well you design a garment and how well you can SEW a garment. That's not design; that's home ec.
  10. Thank you. It's not just about makeup. Sergio steals design elements from Dior, both Christian and when John Galliano was designing for the label. And from these pictures, it's clear he's familiar with McQueen's work. Should he get credit because he 'borrows' from the best?
  11. Well said. I honestly have to wonder about Sergio's education, or lack thereof. Every week he's regurgitated a new 'political statement' to fit his outfit. There's no coherent thought in anything he's said. He's totally playing to the audience, saying things that he thinks will make him 'popular' with the fans. But he doesn't have the knowledge or self-awareness to realize that he's spewing bullshit. I don't like Nancy (at all) but her design was good. But I'm a huge fan of Comme des Garcons and it's clear that Nancy has been influenced by Japanese designers. Not to the point of Sergio's out and out theft, but it's there. I think Elaine said it all when she spoke about Nancy's 'story'. THAT'S why Nancy is in the final. She's the great middle-aged hope. The judges were babbling about latex as if the 80s never happened. I was there and since I spent a lot of time in clubs, I wore my share of latex. I liked Geoffrey's jacket but the latex knickers were just plain silly. He's in thanks to past designs and the fact that the judges seem to love him. And he definitely brings the drama. Victoria makes no fucking sense. There's nothing appealing about her or her designs. Somehow or other the judges and the producers have decided that Victoria is 'cool'. They might all want to check their taste level because 'cool' and Victoria are a Moldavian mile apart. I think it's going to be a sad, uninspiring finale.
  12. Christian made a good suggestion. A menswear season would be interesting. Edited to add: God knows this show could use some fresh ideas. This season has been sooooooooo TIRED. The skill level has been shockingly low and the original ideas are few and far between, if the glimpses we got of the home visits are any indication.
  13. It's interesting that Sergio got into the finals even though on two separate occasions the judges have pointed out that he's 'borrowed' from other designers. And when his copying was pointed out, he knew EXACTLY what Nina was referring to. Sergio knows how to put a garment together but he seems incapable of coming up with an original idea.
  14. I honestly don't see how 'avant garde' latex knickers are. Unless 'avant garde' is French for 'hot and uncomfortable'.
  15. I don't know why it was 'inevitable' that Marquise wouldn't make it in. It's not as if the others were master designers. Anyone who has any knowledge of ballroom culture knows that ballroom culture is VERY fashion forward. I think Marquise's biggest problem was he wasn't dramatic enough for the producers. Being a low-key, quiet man who doesn't impose himself on everyone else or make 'bold' (and incredibly ignorant) STATEMENTS, wasn't enough for them.
  16. Christian Dior is probably contacting his attorneys from beyond the grave about Sergio's blatant theft of his work.
  17. A time when women were empowered? Kind of like the 1950s, huh Sergio?
  18. Reading these comments is a peculiar experience with so many people saying the things I've been saying about Carol for YEARS. I never thought the time would come when Daryl saw through Carol's bullshit and for that I say, God bless Connie. Carol proved to Daryl that she wasn't worthy of his friendship and loyalty in that cave. He kept trying to help her and all she could do was ramp up the histrionics in an attempt to reel him back in to the 'good old days'. Even at the end, when Daryl was dealing with the possibility that the woman he cared for was dead, Carol had to make it ALL ABOUT HER. It was sickening. I wish I could say this means the end of Carol because I would love to get her selfish, self-absorbed ass off my tv screen but I don't think that's going to happen. However, I don't think Ezekiel should make any plans for the future. With Daryl off the hook, for now at least, I think Carol's going to run back to Ezekiel because she can't live without someone to manipulate. Do the people who put this show together bother to watch dailies? Did ANYBODY realize that most of the episode was too dark to see? The carelessness was shocking. It's like tptb know they're not getting any new viewers and they figure the old guard will watch any old shit so why bother. I thought it was interesting that there were no A-list talent on the couch after the episode. Nobody looked like they wanted to be there, just that they had drawn the short straw.
  19. I agree. I refuse to believe that the fabric that some of these designers have been purchasing cost $400, unless Mood is the most expensive fabric store on earth or the designers are purchasing 20 yards of fabric at each visit. Sergio's been throwing Dior's 'New Look' at us for weeks now. No surprise that the New Look came at a time when women were being forced back into the kitchen after all the freedom and success of the war years. For a man who doesn't seem to like women very much, the 50s would be a perfect time. Marquise seems to be the only designer who actually has ideas. His lack of technical expertise does hamper him but it shouldn't because this is a design show not a sewing show. I would like him to get the chance to study design because I really think he has enormous potential. I also love the fact that it seems that he's always trying to prove himself worthy of his second chance, unlike others who seem to take their good luck for granted.
  20. I think that says something. I can't stand Victoria and she comes across as a horrible person, yet her colleagues seem to like her. Brittany and Delvin have been dragged to pieces but the colleagues AND the judges seem to love them. On the other hand, in the last episode it looked like Brittany pulled the short straw and got stuck listening to St. Nancy talk about herself while the other designers scurried off to bed. Maybe Nancy is only 'nice' when she thinks the cameras are rolling. She probably thought the cameras wouldn't pick up the bullshit she pulled with the iron.
  21. Somewhere, TDog and Tyreese are saying, 'Told ya'.
  22. And once again, Carol MAKES IT ALL ABOUT HER. This woman is VILE.
