  1. Devlin mentioned his struggles with mental health and emotional issues. But he doesn't get the pass that Geoffrey gets. Brittany was usually the leader in those bitch-sessions. Devlin is too much of a follower. He has talent and if he learns to trust in himself and go his own way, he'll do well.
  2. I think that every designer should be required to design for a full-figured model because it IS more of a challenge, especially if you're not used to it. Has Sergio EVER had a full-figured model? When Victoria got a larger sized model for the sheer challenge, she basically sewed scraps of material to the model's body and set her down the runway. The judges ignored Victoria's design and spent all their time talking about the model's body. The model's body is what saved Victoria, not her horrific design. Edited to add: I think it's hysterical that Geoffrey's dress is being sold for $840. You can probably find a dress like that in any store that sells beachwear or what used to be called the cruise line. Women are wearing that dress all over the Caribbean right now.
  3. Brittany was usually the one that started her and Delvin's bitchfests about Nancy. But Brittany gets waaaaay more of a pass than Delvin got.
  4. Delvin never did anything to endear himself to the judges. He never pulled the 'tortured artist' routine. He never cried, whined and made excuses about how 'sheer' is a foreign concept in Moldovia. He usually took his criticisms with grace and vowed to do better. I think to the outside world, Delvin's biggest crime was his dislike of Nancy. It's not clear WHY he doesn't care for Nancy and he certainly isn't the only one in the workroom who doesn't have kind things to say about her (he's usually not the one who instigates the bitchery) but for Delvin, it's enough to make him universally hated. Now that he's gone, I hope that he can build up his confidence. He's too easily influenced and too quick to change his idea if someone (usually Christian) didn't like it. Delvin might have done better if he had stuck to his original design, so I hope he gains more self-confidence.
  5. 'New' fashion is happening all the time. Maybe not down at the mall, but new fashion is being created all over the world. The problem with shows like this is it encourages and rewards the banal and derivative. I do think that Delvin can design for a full-figured woman. He never sulked when he got her. He didn't exploit the fact that she has a 'banging body' to compensate for his deficiencies as a designer, unlike Victoria.
  6. Fashion is collaborative the natural impulse is to work together, especially if you like the people you're working with. And fashion is very objective, so helping someone won't make a difference if their design is crap and the judges don't like it. I don't think anyone should leave their own work to help a competitor, but there's nothing wrong with lending a hand if someone is struggling. Dayoung wouldn't have made it as far as she did without help. As for the second, design is a lot like music. Being 'influenced' by another artist is one thing. Straight up copying is completely different.
  7. This season looks like a corral full of one-trick ponies. Every week we get variations of each designers signature look; some are more interesting than others but it's repetition, repetition, repetition. Devlin was straight up jacked. His dress was boring and a repeat of what he's done before, but he's shown that he can design for a full-figured woman and that's something in this competition which isn't as body-positive as it claims to be. The irony about Devlin is he wears the lab coat that French designers of the 50s wore because he wants to emulate them. Meanwhile, week after week, Sergio sends an outfit copied from those same designers. This latest dress was a Dior knockoff. It looked just as beautiful now as it did back in the 50s. Nancy is an interesting woman but she's been sending those same fucking pants down the runway for weeks now. I'm glad that someone dredged up the Quick Sew pattern from the 70s just to show that Nancy isn't doing anything new. This week the challenge was in her wheelhouse and her design was lovely. I think she should have won. Geoffrey is a nice guy and he's benefiting from that. I wonder if his clothes would be as well-liked if HE wasn't as well-liked. The design of his dress wasn't anything special but the fabric really made it glow. And 6' Leslie can say it would look good on ANY woman but I have to wonder how good it would look on a shorter, rounder woman. I have no words for Brittany because I don't know why she's still there. other than the producers think she's 'interesting'. Chelsey was a much better designer and appeared to be 'interesting' too but she wasn't loud or obnoxious which seems to be more important than being a good designer on this show. I liked Marquise's dress. It was young and cute. Yeah, it looked a bit like a skater's dress but it's a fucking tie-dye challenge. The travesty that Victoria sent down the runway was a disgrace. How many times does she have to completely ignore the challenge before she's penalized for it. The judges seem to be afraid of Victoria. They appear to be desperate for her approval instead of the other way around. She must remind them of the 'cool girl' they idolized in high school, who smoked French cigarettes and was 'arty'. These designers are too deluded to realize that Victoria isn't anywhere NEAR cool. She's just arrogant and difficult and gets away with it week after week. I wish Victoria WOULD win this shitshow, so the fashion industry made up of thousands of REALLY cool people would tear her to pieces in record time.
  8. I thought the 'In Memory' was very shabbily handled. This is the first time I've heard Billie Eilish sing and it will most definitely be the last. They had serious singers sitting in the audience who could have walked up the steps and done a better job. And I'm very disappointed that they didn't do more for Kirk Douglas. He was one of the last of Hollywood's 'Golden Age'. He deserved better.
  9. Especially a British woman who feels a 'certain way' about African-Americans, even though African-Americans are have given her a great career.
  10. Hate the song but I love Randy Newman. He's written so many lovely movie songs so I guess he's allowed one stinker.
  11. It's only been an hour and this already feels like the longest Oscar show in history.
  12. Shia was lovely. He offered quiet support and stood back and let the other young man have his moment. I'm crying.
  13. Inclusion means the differently-abled too. To have a developmentally disabled actor at the Academy Awards will mean so much to millions of people all over the world.
  14. @Yours Truly, You make a very good point. Sergio's 'political statements' are so clearly made up out of thin air that it's impossible to respect him even for having the courage of his own convictions. It's not a 'free speech' issue; it's a total ignorance issue. I have no doubt that Sergio's image of the 1950s come from movies and tv shows where everyone has a nice house and a nice car and lives the good life. He has no idea about what that world was REALLY like and why the repression and OPPRESSION of the 50s led to the civil rights movements of the 60s including women's and gay rights. Sergio is too lazy to even know his own history. A gay man could be arrested for BEING GAY. And his claims to not know anything about the history of his chosen industry make him look not only ignorant but also shallow and lazy. He's pretends to be a 1950s expert but he's also a designer that works with performers and doesn't even recognize a fashion milestone that EVERYONE ELSE IN THE COMPETITION KNEW. Sergio and to a certain extent Devlin seem to have an idea about what 'rich people' are like which isn't based on any kind of reality at all. It's like people saying they know all about British royalty because they watch 'The Crown' or the British aristocracy from 'Downton Abbey'. It's all fiction. I give Devlin credit for at least knowing enough about Christian Dior to imitate his lab coat. I'm disappointed that Devlin went down the 'mean girls' rabbit hole with Brittany, because I have no doubt that if push came to shove, she would point her finger at him and say 'he made me do it'. One of the reasons I like and admire Marquise so much is that he's not trying to be anything but what he is. He's designing out of his own experience and reflecting who he is and where he came from. I'm very proud of him and to see him take the second chance he's been given and FLY with it is very moving. I'll bet folding money that Brittany won't do the same with her second chance.
  15. I think Delvin should have stuck to the powder blue. Christian didn't think powder blue was a good idea because HE doesn't like the colour. His mentoring is one thing but he needs to be a bit more neutral. It's not his job to influence the design. Tim would have asked Devlin to explain his point of view and then supported his attempt, no matter what he thought personally. Devlin's tuxedo might have turned out tacky as hell but at least it would have been INTERESTING. Delvin is too easy influenced away from what HE wants.
  16. Exactly. One look at his designs and it's clear he knows who Christian Dior is and has no problem copying him. If Sergio had said he wanted to make an homage to Galliano's backward tux, that would have been fine.
