  1. Alec Baldwin was involved in a tragic incident on a film set. Here's the official statement from the New Mexico Sheriff's Department (via the Deadline article). Article from the Santa Fe New Mexican: *With few confirmed details, this may just be a case of an improperly prepared prop, as in the Brandon Lee tragedy, where the actor had no knowledge of the condition of the prop firearm. But, if Baldwin was toying around with the firearm or if the famously temperamental actor was brandishing it in anger, then I could see charges involving criminal negligence being filed. (I originally posted details about this in the Movies "Business" thread, but since this now involves a "celebrity", I am posting updates here.)
  2. Whoa. Update: Per the New Mexico Sheriff's Department, it was Alec Baldwin who "discharged" the firearm. The victims were cinematographer Halyna Hutchins (IMDb) and director/writer Joel Souza (IMDb). Edit: Moving updates to the main Celebrity thread in the "Everything Else TV" subforum.
  3. Tragic news. Female Crewmember Dies After Prop Gun Misfire On New Mexico Set Of Alec Baldwin Film ‘Rust’ This ABC News segment has a brief excerpt from the apparent 9-1-1 call.
  4. Some significant casting news, via Deadline: Abbie Cornish To Return As Cathy Mueller In Season 4. As of yet, there are no plot details concerning Cathy, who was "Chuck Cunningham"ed in the second season. The article also has a summary of the upcoming third season:

  6. There will be an official Lego set for U.S. version of The Office. The set will be a part of their "Ideas" line, which are based on fan-submitted designs that have at least 10,000 votes on the Lego Ideas website (ideas.lego.com). From the official Lego Ideas blog: (emphasis added) For Ideas sets based on existing I.P. (intellectual property), licensing is generally the biggest hurdle, as Lego would need approval from the I.P. owner(s), and sometimes there may be current toy licenses held by competing toy companies. This is an image of the fan-submitted set. Expect the final version to look quite a bit different, especially concerning the number of minifigures. I'd suspect 7 to 9 would be more realistic. For a comparison of how the fan model can differ from the final product, here are official photos of the Seinfeld set (via Brickset.com) and here is the original submission (ideas.lego.com). Also, besides Seinfeld there have been other TV show "set" Lego sets, including Friends (Central Perk and Apartments), new Queer Eye, and The Big Bang Theory. As far as a release date goes, the Seinfeld set was approved in June 2020 and the set was released in July 2021, so late next year is likely the earliest that this set could be available.
  7. Apparently, the series has been renewed for a fourth season, per Variety and THR. The THR article mentions that Michael Peña is "set to appear in multiple episodes" of season four. The THR article also summarizes the showrunner musical chairs:
  8. US/UK season premiere is December 3rd. Here's a one-minute teaser: Season Description (from the video's YouTube page):
  9. Per TVLine, the final season will premiere on Friday, December 10th. Season Six - 45-second "Official Teaser" From TVLine's article:

    The NBA

I've updated my previous post with links to the DOJ press release and indictment. Hmm. Wondering if there's a direct connection between the two conspiracies (e.g., either discovered during the first investigation or volunteered by an NFL defendant), or something else, such as the processing company for the NBA's plan deciding to take a closer look and finding suspicious claims. For example, some of the dental claims involved the same procedure -- on the same exact teeth -- on the same dates and at the same office. I wouldn't be surprised if the processing company's internal fraud section had database queries that searched for these types of suspicious claims. (endodontic therapy = root canal)

    The NBA

18 former NBA players have been indicted on federal charges of fraud related to a kickback scheme involving submitting fake claims for medical services. From the article linked in the above tweet: Edit/Update: Here's the link to the DOJ press release and a copy of the indictment (PDF; scanned, not OCR'ed unfortunately). All the defendants "are each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud... TERRENCE WILLIAMS is also charged with one count of aggravated identity theft".
  12. TVLine has an "exclusive sneak peek" 45-second clip from next week's season premiere. Here's the official description for the episode, pulled from the CW's PR website:
  13. Back on September 23rd, two 45-second spots were released. The "Legendary" one has snippets of "The Dance..." and "America" with the actual music and singing. "Legendary" 45-second spot "Tonight" 45-second spot (I didn't spot anything new, except Tony's line at the end.) There's also a one-minute "Special Look" video from late July that only has a few unique shots.

    Tennis Thread

Indian Wells: On the women's side, Kim Clijsters is back, with a wild card spot, while Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez, seeded 17th and 23rd, respectively, are in action for the first time since the U.S. Open final. The seeded American players are Coco Gauff (15th), Jessica Pegula (19th), and Danielle Collins (22nd). Clijsters played in last week's Chicago Fall Classic, losing in the singles round of 64. Here is Tennis.com's write-up on the women's singles draw:
  15. The IATSE has moved one step closer to a nationwide strike. From the Variety article: Factoring in the members who did not vote, the overall percentage for "yes" is 88.6% (52,706 divided by 59,478).
  16. A long Twitter thread about a woman who faked her way into getting a writing job for the now-cancelled Paramount Network show, 68 Whiskey. (edit: looks like the quoted tweet was deleted, so here's a screenshot from Google's cache) From a later tweet in the thread:
  17. Awful, just awful. NWSL coach Paul Riley has been "fired after allegations of sexual coercion by multiple former players". Here's the original article linked in the tweet above (paywalled). A much shorter free article is available here: Former players accuse North Carolina Courage coach Paul Riley of sexual coercion. The Athletic also has a non-paywalled blog page with updates and developments on the situation. The Farrelly allegations date back to 2011 and those involving Shim are from 2015, when she was with the Portland Thorns. Shim notified the Thorns about Riley in 2015 and met with the team's H.R. director, as well as notified the league commissioner. And, unfortunately, this is just the latest abuse situation in the league, as aptly summarized in the main article: Additionally, OL Reign coach Farid Benstiti resigned in July after a formal complaint by a player regarding inappropriate comments.
  18. Via THR: IATSE to Hold a Strike Authorization Vote Amid Stalled Contract Talks Deadline's article has the full response from the AMPTP. Besides compensation, one of the prominent concerns for the IATSE is excessively long workdays. From last week: IATSE Says It Received More Than 50 Reports Of 14-Hour Workdays In First 7 Months Of 2021 (via Deadline).
  19. So there's now an official Lego set (#10291) for this show... A press release about the set, with more photos, and a review of the set are available at a Lego fan site, Brickset. The set's release date is October 1st.

Here is C-Span's video page for the entire hearing, including the second panel with Wray and the DOJ Inspector General. The player's opening statements start at about the 43 minute mark. The page also includes a transcript section (pulled from the close captioning, so there could be transcribing errors).
