I'm confused by the speculation about whether or not Serena can have children. Isn't the infertility of the wives the point of a handmaid? Or are wives just not even allowed to have their own children even if they're fertile, and if not, huh? Why?

Aunt Lydia was an odd audience for June's bit about someone who abuses a woman would abuse a child. Lydia abuses women all time, for the exact kind of reason Fred beat Serena. I'd think Lydia would approve.

Too heavy on new folks like Jessie and Alanna. But it was nice to see Will again, and he even got his OWN song this time! Maddie, not so much. Her storyline is tedious and, yeah, she looks terrifying. Go back to light brown hair, stop overbleaching your teeth and overtanning your face! It's so jarring to look at!

I loved that. Basically course-corrected part II, quite beautifully. And we got a full flashback montage of Stef and Lena! So many tears. Oh and the spinoff isn't going to be Callie/Mariana/Brandon/Jude. It's just going to be Callie and Mariana, with occasional guest appearances by everyone else in the family. (I probably won't watch, honestly, except for Moms visits.)

Sad that there was no Maggie, Lauren, or Josh. Charles continues to bore me to tears. And I'm sick of Kelsey constantly yelling at her boss, it makes no sense. Who has tantrums like that at work to their superiors so often?
-
I'm sure we could all see "Janine's loving touch brings the baby back from the brink!" from about fifty miles away, but it was still very affecting.

I can't believe that the dominant story in this series finale is Brandon/Callie. Again. They have been writing them as real siblings for a long time now. They had him move on, quite seriously, with Grace. Then they even added a time jump to cement the familial relationship even further, and now they're going back to this well as a primary focus? I kind of regret watching this 3-parter.

This show definitely needs to stick to the present-day. Particularly because when they do the flashbacks, the tone seems to shift more into drama and it doesn't work, especially with Tracy Morgan looking like that! I feel like the show started off so well and the last handful of episodes have just felt like they already lost steam. (Although Shay's mom last night was HILARIOUS.)

Watson is always wearing short sleeveless dresses while men in shirt sleeves and suit jackets surround her. She must be so cold! (Well, that is when she's not wearing a suit jacket and tie, and I love when she does.)

I've never even know anyone to throw a high school graduation party for their kid (a nice family dinner, sure), so I'm surprised there's such a response to that, but apparently my circles are depriving their children! (Or we were deprived as children.) Anyway, this was an improvement on last week, to be sure -- both since it included the larger cast and actually bothered trying to inject some comedy into it. That said, this is not why I watch this fun, big-hearted, feel-good show. At all. Ready for this to be over. (And dammit, this cast deserves awards, but I don't want them taking home comedy awards for drama. That always drives me crazy. Comedy is HARD. Reward it!)

Gee, that was a fun 22 minutes of hilarity! Can't wait for more! (Ugh.)

Mary Kills People - General Discussion

Yeah, that really took me out of it that they had about 25 guests at the hospice watching this happen. I'd assumed they were doing a ceremony but then the actual assisted suicide would be private. Seems like at some point word would get out! -
Well, that was about it for me and Rollins. That was so overwritten it's absurd. Her boyfriend cheated on her, so now she thinks it's pointless to bother with sex workers who are raped and assaulted and left for dead? Come on. Otherwise...pretty average episode. I'm glad for once they actually cast a trans actor as a trans character, though.

Janet! Best thing about the final seasons.

Well, I've officially shed tears over an aardvark's dental work. This show has broken me! I've been to the Bronx Zoo and the Central Park Zoo a million times but I admit I've never done the other boroughs -- never been to the Queens, Prospect Park, or Staten Island Zoos. I gotta get on that! (Who here has been and which one should I prioritize?)

Just finished the new season. It got off to a rocky start because there was just so much I couldn't remember and we were still dealing with all of it on TOP of a bunch of new details and characters. But by the 4th or 5th episode I kind of settled in and had a blast. Loved the finale (even though I'm admittedly still a LITTLe confused about some of the maneuvers). I really hope it comes back. This cast is second to none.

I'm not sure Bobby is enough man for Athena, but I'm open. We'll see. The Hen/Karen reunion made me worried that Hen won't get much personal life story next season, though. Hope they come up with some drama since she's my favorite!

Mary Kills People - General Discussion

I'm so excited that Jess seems to be getting a real girlfriend! It's such a dark show, having a little young love in the mix is just the antidote. (Of course I doubt Naomi will take it well.) -
Holy crap, no kids necessary, they just introduced all these new packages! https://bronxzoo.com/wild-encounters I CANNOT WAIT.
-
I'm only sad that they seem to only shoot this in the warm months. The Bronx Zoo is a fascinating winter visit, and I'd love to hear all the behind the scenes stuff that goes into the weather shifts! Otherwise, it's pretty perfect other than making me super jealous that as a middle-aged person with no kids, I never get to go to any of the cute education programs there!
-
I know it's not entirely unusual to have phones for the homeless, but I'd like the name of that cell phone because apparently it stays charged for SO LONG!
-
Right, if they needed that time I'd be all for it. I don't think they did, at any point this season. Nor has American Horror Story ever needed it, and holy macaroni did Sons of Anarchy never need it. I like the show but the super-sized episode running time has come off as very self-indulgent. Makes sense for a finale or premiere or something, but not one single episode fit into the hour slot.
-
I missed the last few minutes of the episode -- did they ever give an explanation for why the homeless man happened to have a juiced-up cell phone in that dumpster? Was that not even an observed point of curiosity from any of the characters?

I still feel like the reverse chronology is really effective in that I wasn't able to generate much sympathy for him. If we'd started here, it would feel very different (even knowing how it ended in the broader sense since the crimes were real and well-known). Watching what an entitled murderous monster he was BEFORE watching a little boy get raised by a horrible, creepy father is compelling to me in terms of re-tracing an origin story but asks less of me in the compassion department. And frankly I appreciate that when watching a series about a serial killer. I couldn't fall into a trap of knee-jerk rooting for a kid when I'd already seen who he became. More of a curiosity. That said, dear lord they need to tell these people to stick to their allotted hour. FX has let so many of their solid shows become slogs because of their liberal time management.

Ruth's Chris is a pretty well-known chain in most medium to large cities and suburbs. There's one across the street from where I work in Manhattan and it's one of those "comforting" chains near Times Square for tourists. Max has lived in LA and NYC (and traveled to a jillion other cities for this silly show), it'd be weird if he (and Nev) DIDN'T know it's a major chain. Less shocking that a 19-year-old who's lived on the same island her whole life wouldn't realize that, though. I did have to laugh out loud at dim Infiniti not getting the Chipotle joke, however. Wow.
