I just got around to watching today's show that was made up of all "after the view" clips. I'm surprised how much I liked it all. Maybe because I've never been able to figure out actually where and how to WATCH "after the view." I've tried, but I must be doing something wrong.

I noticed a lot of commercials for Advanced Auto Parts (And other TLC shows) As sexist as it sounds, I think auto parts store ads are typically aimed at men, right? I cannot imagine my sons or husband watching one second of anything Duggar. Just seemed like weird Ad placements to me. They're probably scraping the bottom of the barrel of who's willing to advertise on their show. (I hope, I hope)

Talking about dreams,I remember my mom saying that only "crazy" people dreamt (dreamed?) in color. Anyone else ever hear something like this? (And what a thing to tell a little kid!) What if I DID dream in color?? For the record, I can't ever remember noticing if a dream was in black and white or color. (I've never dreamt I could fly either)

What I take away from that picture is that Derick chews his fingernails... a lot. My son used to do it and his fingertips had that same look to them (and he used to curl them under to hide them in pictures too.) Derick can quit like my son did..by becoming a hard working car mechanic. After his first day on the job he said he was cured of putting his fingers in his mouth ever again. :) Oh, who am I kidding..that's an actual job.

I'm enjoying watching this with my grandkids. They liked the little girl who hypnotized the animals, except they all said anyone could train a dog to do that. But the frog, lizard, chicken and bunny..that really impressed them. My two princess obsessed granddaughters LOVED the carriage and little horse (I thought it was dumb..LOL) But we all generally find one or two acts we like, even if we don't agree on our favorites :)

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

I loved the ending of that article: Tags: Duggars, Gross, Please Report To The Devil's Office, Trash -
Has anyone mentioned this article about how Candace parents like the Duggars? Here's part of it: Bure has allegedly admitted to using the same controversial parenting strategies as the Duggar family. According to The Hollywood Gossip, Bure wrote in a 2004 blog post that has since been deleted: "The books that guideline raising our children are the Bible, Shepherding a Child’s Heart by Tedd Tripp and To Train Up a Child by Michael & Debi Pearl. My parenting tip of the day is consistency; it’s key." (Not sure if this is the right place to put this) http://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/1114305/candace-cameron-bure?utm_source=SheKnowsDaily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20160305&utm_term=SKDailySubscribersFINAL&utm_content=6229938 ETA: I've thoroughly looked through this forum four times and I still don't see a Candace topic...maybe I'm losing it.

Life After Downton: How to Get Our Period Fix
ChiCricket replied to Daisy's topic in Downton Abbey [V]
I wholeheartedly second "The Duchess of Duke Street."One of my all-time favorite series. I loved it so much I bought the entire series on VHS tapes back in the day. They're the only VHS tapes I still have. (Now I want to hook up my old VCR and rewatch the whole thing.) -
On a lighter note..who else thought the best part of Halloween as a kid was dumping all your candy on the carpet and making different piles for each kind of candy? I loved that!
-
I figured since Halloween was on a Saturday this year, I'd better get a lot of candy. So I bought bags and bags of chocolate, and we got a grand total of TEN trick-or-treaters. It was cold and raining here in Illinois, but that never would have stopped my two younger sisters and me (I?) from going for free candy on Halloween. Rain, snow, sleet, we still went for hours and hours. We carried old pillowcases for the takings, and they got SO heavy...but did we quit? No way! Looking back now, I can't believe I was the one taking my younger sisters all over town. I was EIGHT, my sisters were six and four! Yesterday I wouldn't let my 13 year old granddaughter go out alone to her mom's car in the dark to get something..I had to go out with her. Because now we know too much about too many creeps! I just heard Jared Fogle's phone recordings on Dr. Phil...and it's sick bastards like that make me paranoid about my grands going anywhere and doing anything! Ugh

Yesterday, on Halloween, my (Marine) son posted a picture of his three kids each holding a pumpkin, with his wife beside them holding a pumpkin in her lap. We all oohed and aahed and said what a cute picture it was, of course. My son then commented, "yeah, We thought we'd be different this year and that we'd get all the kids each their own pumpkin. My other son said " wait a minute! You guys bought FOUR pumpkins.....is this what I think it is? If so, congrats!" He was right! I'm going to be a grammie again in June! This is my youngest child, and he and his wife have always wanted four kids (and are shutting down the baby factory after this one.) My other kids finished up having kids years ago, so this will be my last grandbaby...lucky #13!

I. agree ,and I should have been more clear. Some of the money was for funeral expenses, and the remainder was to go towards some of her medical bills not covered by insurance. But they didn't see any of it for anything anyway. Just my opinion, but I think funeral companies are massive rip offs, who play on people's emotions to squeeze more money out of people who are grieving and can't think straight.
-
Even then..be very,VERY wary. My youngest daughter's coworker just recently died at 37 from brain cancer. Her cousin, who my daughter knows very well (she was one of her bridesmaids!) set up a gofundme page to help pay for the funeral expenses. She raised $10,000 (all of them work for a large airline, so word got around.) Fine, good, funeral expenses will be paid for, right? Well, when the deceased's mom asked her niece for the gofundme money so she could pay the funeral bill....none left. Turns out the deceased's cousin has a gambling addiction NO ONE KNEW ABOUT and she spent every penny at the casinos. She got fired from the airline after they found out btw, because there was no way she ever could have worked with all her co-workers she fleeced (especially since everyone loved her cousin that died that also worked with them) Sick, sick, sick.

This blogger sounds like he was raised like the Duggars, but got out with a wicked sense of humor. This is his take on evil Halloween vs Church Fall festivals. http://matthewepierce.com/costume-ideas-for-the-halloween-festival/

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? All your posts have made me very aware that I am guilty as sin of posting anything *I* find funny, amazing, and interesting on Facebook. I do know better. I 'hide' a lot of people who annoy ME with religion, politics, veganism, etc. I don't unfriend them because they'd eventually find out. I need to take a seat and stop over sharing. I just now made a Facebook messenger group with only my own five "kids" (who are in their 30's and 40's!) that I can use to share whatever I want to my hearts content. I then called all five and told them each to feel free to mute all notifications for that group, and that I expected NO comments or likes. (We have a "just us" group for disseminating family info already) I named the group "stuffyoudontneedtoread" Seriously,I needed this heads up! Thanks

Just went back to catch up on posts I missed. Skittl, I'm so sorry to hear of your news about your baby. ;'(

Wasn't sure where to share this, but since this was written by a friend of my online friend I met years ago by buying, selling, and collecting Beanie Babies, it's kind of personal. So I guess I'll put it here. BTW, I met so many people all over the USA and Canada selling those little stuffed bags of beans,so don't judge. I swear they had some kind of crack in them. It was temporary insanity, plus, I had an inside connection. I was an Rx tech in a pharmacy that sold them, and we got first crack at them. Now you know why people couldn't get ahold of the ones they were looking for...because of people like me with no Beanie Baby morals. Anyway..this guy's religious humor cracks me up (side note..he was homeschooled) Here's a taste of what he wrote about wearing costumes to church fall festivals: (Written by Matthew Pierce) The Praymate The Playboy Bunny is always a popular women’s costume, but why should the devil have all the fun? Put a wholesome, flirty twist on the bunny concept by wearing a pair of oversized ears atop a billowing, floor-length dress. [Can be combined with a denim skirt for homeschool mothers] IMPORTANT NOTE: resist the urge to attach the cotton tail to your backside, as this will cause Butt Sin.http://matthewepierce.com/butt-sin-a-primer/http://matthewepierce.com/costume-ideas-for-the-halloween-festival/ Edited to add: sorry SO lengthy..I'm a little manic this week

This is so true. You don't want a negative report, but then you're thinking what in the world *is* causing the symptoms? Then, if you're anything like me, you start to worry that it's all in your head. But dagnabbit......we know when something "just ain't right" with our bodies. Trying to convince the doctors you're not a hypochondriac is a whole 'nother can of worms.

Now I know how tense my poor husband is over tonight's Cub's game. He just excitedly came in and spoke to me IN SPANISH about something that happened in the game. LOL he NEVER does that..even when I try speaking to him in Spanish, he always answers me in English...He must be a nervous wreck, poor guy :) (I'm a diehard White Sox fan,but I do feel really bad for him) Edited to add: Aaaaaand they lost. :(

This turn of phrase really gave me a good idea of just how bad your mom's cooking was! It also made me think of the duggars, actually. Because WHY should the women in any family be stereotyped into doing all the cooking? Maybe they don't have an innate talent for it (or don't enjoy doing it), and maybe some of the MEN just might be better and more willing? But, no..that's women's work. Bleh

I get more than a down feeling. I used to get very bad clinical depression. I was hospitalized quite a few times for suicidal thoughts .That was a very dark time in my life, mostly caused by my husband being an abusive alcoholic. But he found religion and quit drinking (cold turkey) and now our marriage is good again (even though I'm agnostic.) The good news is that I haven't gotten depressed like that in over 15 years (and for a period of ten years, I was horribly depressed every fall.) Prozac everyday, and sitting under a sun-box starting in fall have been literal life savers for me. I'm reluctant to share (because mental illness has SUCH a stigma.) I'm just hoping trying a sun-box might help someone else who suffers from seasonal affective disorder.(SAD) I WISH the Chicago area had short winters!

The only must have thing my family demands for Thanksgiving (besides turkey) is our fruit salad that takes hours and hours to make. I remember my great grandma making it (and I'm 63 years old) so that's a long family tradition. We have to make VATS of it because everyone wants to take lots home to eat in the days afterward. My grown kids have been known to watch with an eagle eye while the leftovers get divided up to make sure they get a fair amount. And every year, someone tries to lobby for more "because I have more kids than you do!"That quickly gets shot down, because they say, "you know it's for YOU and not your kids!" Heh Out of my 3 daughters and two sons, only my youngest son has never liked it. My other kids say, "good! more for US!" It contains: Red grapefruit Oranges Bananas Crushed canned pineapple Maraschino cherries And LOTS of mini marshmallows (do NOT get the flavored ones..yuck! ) The labor intensive part is the grapefruit and oranges..which is why I only make it at Thanksgiving, which is probably what makes them really look forward to it. If you make this, save an extra bag of mini marshmallows, to add new handfuls to the leftovers in the coming days, because the ones already in it get translucent, and you need the chewiness. Probably good it's only once a year because of all that sugar! Edited for big run-on sentence.

Last year I won a costume contest by just knotting a big thick rope (with scraggly ends) loosely around my neck. I asked people to guess what my costume represented. Nobody got it, and I won when I told them I was "afraid not". Most comfy costume I ever wore. I won a highly scented Halloween candle that I promptly had to give away because strong scents trigger my asthma. I did have fun winning with such a last minute thrown together 'costume'!

but nothing! I DID swear when I read all of this. I exclaimed "holy *CARP*!!" (I have 3 of my grands sleeping over, and that is one of the only "swears" I use when they are around.) My 7-yo granddaughter asked me one time what 'holy carp' meant, and I told her it was a type of Angel Fish. (So,yeah, add lying to my 'sins'.) But again, HOLY CARP!

Thanks..because of this post I just found something new to watch with my grandkids :) I don't pollute their minds with the crap I watch when I'm by myself.
