S12.E07: How Do You Know If You're In Love?
VioletNevermind replied to humbleopinion's topic in Married At First Sight
I have a young adult daughter. It scares me how easily some men are able to convince women to make these decisions despite everything we preach. -

Paige finally got mad. I’m here for it. Shame on MAFS for putting her through this. I don’t see how production didn’t know any of this. -

Virginia clearly does not agree with this mindset and she is nowhere near ready to change. -

We’re only a few episodes in, but I’m voting Vincent the #1 husband of the pack right now. No one is perfect, but he seems to be the most balanced of the group. I really want these two to work out. -

Ugh, I loathe Haley. She’s wearing a damn t-shirt and jeans, acting like she’s too good for his Members Only jacket. The whole 80s thing is definitely obnoxious (isn’t he like 36?!), but she brings this “I’m better than you” vibe to every. single. interaction. If this were high school, she would be that bitch sitting at a cafeteria table with her friends, making fun of literally everyone, but pretending to smile in their faces. -

Wow, Eric’s apartment looks like Glenn Quagmire’s house. “Alriiiight.” -

She acts like she thinks she’s better than him. I find her quite the diva- with very little justification that I can see. -

I see that Pastor Cal will be speaking with the couples tonight. I know he won’t, but he should be handing Chris his ass. There is zero excuse for his behavior, even those patented MAFS excuses about finding yourself and advocating for yourself. -

Wow, I’ve been in college dorms with nicer furniture and bedding sets. Also, Paige, it’s getting harder and harder to feel sorry for you. What’s that quote? Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. It’s all on you at this point. -
I never thought I’d spend even one minute of my life discussing Catelynn Lowell’s urine, but good God, woman, drink some damn water. I thought she was testing her urine with a container of carrot juice or preparing to dye Easter eggs. I won’t even mention the fact that she peed in a food storage container, placed it on her kitchen counter, dipped various pregnancy tests into it, and dripped said tests all over that same counter. Mark me down as a pretty damn firm ‘no’ for her next dinner party. As for Cheyenne’s home search, MacKenzie’s move, and Maci’s party “concerns,” I say who cares, double who cares, and please give this half-grown child his privacy, in that order.

Good Eats: The Return - General Discussion
VioletNevermind replied to msrachelj's topic in Good Eats: The Return
Great post. I don’t think your opinion is unpopular at all! I loathe Twitter and any sort of herd mentality. I think that social media allows otherwise innocent comments to be blown out of proportion. It makes it far too easy for people to dismiss entire mindsets without giving them a chance to come together with others, explore it further, and actually learn. You mentioned alcohol. I almost mentioned that in my post, too, so I’ll do it now. I do think that Alton has a drinking issue that has influenced some of these “incidents.” He admitted as much a few years ago, but I think it’s worse than he’s said. I don’t believe he’s some evil person, but I don’t believe that he’s a very nice guy either. Funnily enough, he’d probably be the first to admit that- and proudly so! He sure can cook, though. -
Good Eats: The Return - General Discussion

It went from this the day before the election to making holocaust jokes not long afterward. Here is a pretty good review of the whole thing. To make things even worse, he deleted scores of critical Instagram comments, even the more thoughtful ones that did not get down into the weeds. He was completely silent for far too long and only resurfaced to push the return of his show. The more I think about it, the more I dislike him as a person- and the more I suspect that his own actions (which are not new) earned him his spot on discovery+, at least in part. I really don’t see where he can go from there in terms of TV. The Food Network airing (shelving?) his show on a streaming platform that only a small percentage of his fan base will buy sure does feel to me like the sunset of his career. -

I’m all about people living their truth as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else, but there are times when I want to shake Hazel and remind her very loudly that she has a son. -

Wow, Yara definitely dressed for the occasion. Everyone else is wearing jeans and button-downs and she’s dressed like she’s going to the opera. Eh, sort of. It looks like they made a nice little gathering for them, though. -

This goddamn Juvederm commercial will be seared into my brain for the rest of my life. “You’ve got to . . . . . . WORK IT WORK IT WORK IT WORK IT WORK IT WORK IT WORK IT WORK IT WORK IT WORK IT WORK IT WORK IT WORK IT.” -

Imagine listening to this drunken rant through your hotel room wall. Stephanie is absolutely pathetic. (Oh, and blocking someone who just hung up on you is a little silly, hon.) -
Whoo lawd, this show. I already find Alex a bit smug and insufferable, so I think her addition to this show was ill-advised, to say the least. GZ and Jeff have their boys club inside and Alex simply does not fit in. She comes off like an overeager puppy sometimes, trying to be noticed. I thought she was this fancy Iron Chef, too. It could be argued that she is slumming it on this show. It comes off a little desperate on her part. GZ and Jeff all but ignore her faux-cerebral comments while they’re cooking. Honestly, I have come to watch this show just for the humor at this point. They’re all so ridiculous and the food can be pretty questionable. As for Sunny, I applaud her for being willing to film outside. Hell, I would want to be out there away from others, too. I think she’s much more palatable on her own. There were times when they were all filming together when their conduct as a group was absolutely laughable. You could hardly hear anything they were saying as they all bellowed in unison, with Sunny’s voice rising above all of the others. I think this show has run its course anyway. I hope Food Network shakes it up at some point and runs some truly original programming, but there’s my wishful thinking and naïveté.

Good Eats: The Return - General Discussion
VioletNevermind replied to msrachelj's topic in Good Eats: The Return
I’m kind of furious that this will only be available on discovery+. I follow Alton on Instagram and check in on Twitter every once in a while; he is being roasted over the coals by about 75% of his followers for this. I’m sure that he only had so much control over how this show would be distributed moving forward, but what a way for Food Network to treat his loyal viewers after over 20 years. I’ll be honest: I’ve been toying with the idea of being done with Alton Brown for a while now. He was always kind of a low-grade ass, which I used to enjoy, mainly because he was also intelligent as hell, but now . . . I don’t know. It feels different somehow. I could still ignore it now if not for his terribly insensitive (and kind of unbalanced, honestly) social media posts from last fall and the often arrogant, insufferable way he acts on that Quarantine Quitchen show he does with his new wife on YouTube. I’m kind of turned off in general. I typically try to enjoy whatever talent that celebrities bring to the table and leave their personal lives out of it, but it’s harder here, probably because I don’t often like what I see when he pulls back the curtain to allow us that peek inside. These networks really do flatter themselves, thinking that tons of people will be willing to pay even more money for multiple digital streaming services, on top of the already exorbitant prices we pay for cable- especially in this time when so many are struggling. There are days when the Food Network doesn’t even seem to be worth watching, especially if you’re not into 10-year-old episodes of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives or watching people decorate four-foot-tall cakes. I guess I’ll keep cooking from my Good Eats cookbooks and catch the reruns when they air. -

Paige . . . girl. No. No, no, no. Chris is lucky that she’s who she is. He would have been ended by now if he had been matched with anyone else. At this point, he’s just being cruel and I think he knows it. It’s honestly disgusting to watch. -

This. I don’t think he would have done that if his wife wasn’t so much younger than he is, which, in itself, is problematic for me.
