The Starling City Times: News and Media about Arrow
strikera0 replied to Grammaeryn's topic in Arrow
We know Oliver must have changed his mind because Roy will be a full-fledged member of Team Arrow when the new season opens. We don't know about Laurel yet, but at the very least, they will be working closely together to catch criminals and I would expect her to show up at the lair from time to time. -

They took some pictures of Roy in his Arsenal gear to promote the new season. -

I didn't care much for the poster, but now that I am seeing it, I have to say it looks extremely cheap. I'm not surprised that Sara's missing. She's a recurring guest star and only regulars are featured on posters like this. Quentin, Malcolm and Thea should have been on it, though. Quentin in particular because he has been working with the Arrow for a while now. -
Did I ever say it wasn't? The writers should have never written in the sister swapping angle. That's where they went wrong. Plain and simple.
-
Hmm, I'm afraid that scenario would be too soap operaish for my taste. IMO, if the writers were hell-bent on giving Laurel & Oliver a connection in the past, it would have been better if they had been part of the same clique in high school. Maybe Oliver could have always harbored a bit of a crush on Laurel, but she never took him seriously because of his playboy ways. Then after Oliver returns from the island a changed man, Laurel could have slowly fallen in love with him right in front of our eyes. As far as Oliver and Sara are concerned, I don't think a romantic pre-island history would have been needed to make the pairing believable. If the writers had paired Shado with Slade, they could have used the season 2 flashbacks to develop a real romantic relationship between Sara and Oliver on the island. That would have been enough of a foundation, IMO.

Collider is interviewing Katie Cassidy on Thursday, September 18. If anyone wants to submit questions for the interview, you can do so here. -
Ok, I have looked up an example of the "smile" quote again and here, SA is saying that Oliver didn't smile at all until Felicity came onto the show, which simply isn't true (as proven by the gifset):
-
Well, I respectfully disagree. This smile/laugh right here looks very real to me:
-
Please, don't get me wrong. I am not condoning the actor bashing at all. All I'm saying is that I can see where it's coming from and in light of the Twitter shit storm that rained down on the producers after they compared Oliver/Laurel to Lois & Clark, it's obvious that parts of the Olicity fandom wouldn't act any differently if the shoe was on the other foot. Shipper groups always love to pretend that they are better than the other side, but the reality is that they all act the same and no side is better than the other. The "Oliver has never cracked a smile until Felicity came along" meme isn't a meme that he has only reposted on his facebook page, though. That is a meme that he has repeatedly mentioned in interviews and it makes him look a bit silly because it's clearly untrue.
-
I haven't noticed any changes in Stephen Amell personally, but I also don't camp out on his facebook page so I am probably not a good judge. That being said, I can kind of understand why certain factions of the online fandom may not be all too hot on him right now. Just put yourself in the shoes of Laurel/Oliver fans for a second. As Olicity shippers, how would you feel if Stephen Amell was constantly shoving his love for Oliver/Laurel down your throats to the point of adopting fandom nicknames (Captain Amell) or repeating fandom memes that are clearly untrue (e.g. Oliver never cracked a smile until Felicity came along)? Or if EBR was being openly bashed by Laurel/Oliver shippers on SA's official facebook page and he never stood up for her and called those "fans" out? Surely, you wouldn't like any of that either and start to become frustrated after a while, too.

Isn't that one of the slogans of her fashion blog? He has been using those for a while now, see here.

I assume they are connected because he told KC that he was proud of her minutes before he praised JR for a job well done. Also, BamBam sent KC a separate reply to the tweet you mentioned:

It looks like there's going to be a Ted/Laurel stunt scene in episode 6:

Has this article been posted yet? 'Arrow' Boss on Oliver's Love Life: Not Many Superheroes "Are Married"
-
I think you can bet your house on that.

Lame. I know people like to pretend that Arrow is so different from the usual CW fare, but in reality, the show is turning more and more into the standard CW soap opera. I wouldn't necessarily mind it if romance was one of the show's strong suits, but sadly, I find all of the romantic relationships on Arrow inauthentic. And now, it's probably only a matter of time until we get casting news for Roy's new love interest.

I just saw this posting on Tumblr where Katrina Law describes Nyssa's first meeting with Laurel. She says that Laurel is doing something physical and Nyssa is impressed by her. I have to assume that she's talking about an upcoming scene this season because the description doesn't fit anything that happened last season. I wonder what Laurel is doing...

According to this, KC is doing stunts on Arrow this year. Hopefully, they are better than the ones she did in the past.
-
The Canadian promo didn't have the best picture quality, but I think the man that was being grabbed by Laurel in the hospital bed does bear a strong resemblance to a character that has been on the show before: Martin Somers.
-
I think they will start filming in New York City next month, so filming is definitely going to overlap. That's not good. Hopefully, the 2 productions can work something out.

I think one of the reasons Tommy was written out of the show was the failure of the Oliver/Laurel/Tommy love triangle. They probably intended for it to be a series long plot thread but when it didn't catch on with viewers, they had to course-correct. They weren't going to write out their female lead and they had lucked into an amazing Dark Archer in Malcolm Merlyn, so they probably decided to sacrifice Tommy to further Oliver's journey and close the door on Oliver/Laurel. If I remember correctly, there was even an interview with the produers towards the end of season 1 where they mentioned that they had to let the Oliver/Laurel/Tommy thing play itself out first before they can play out Olicity.

I find it so annoying when people call Sara the fake Black Canary. Surely, nobody calls Dinah Drake (the first BC in the comics) that. Why can't we all agree that for all intents and purposes, Sara is Black Canary now? She may be the first version of Black Canary, but Black Canary nonetheless.

I have never seen the original, but the production has done a very good job keeping Caity's involvement in the sequel under wraps considering that the movie was filmed over a year ago. That's a big window of opportunity for something to leak...
-
I wouldn't be surprised if Felicity and Laurel have grown closer by the time we see them again. Because of the 6 month timejump, the characters will have worked together on Team Arrow for quite some time already and probably also spent a good amount of time in each other's company.

I'm gonna try to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they actually mean "Or can I be a vigillante like my sister?", which would be in -keeping with some of the comic book canon. Post-Crisis Dinah originally wanted to become a cop like her dad, but was turned down by the force. After her father died from a heart-attack, she chose to become a vigillante to honor his memory in a different way. And comic book Dinah Laurel Lance had so much admiritation for her mother and her mother's JSA friends that she wanted to become a costumed superhero just like her mother before her (to her mother's chagrin). Now, one can argue whether this type of origin story still fits modern times. Personally, I would have much rather seen a more individual hero's journey but maybe that's just me...
