S06.E14: Not Easy To Love
MatildaMoody replied to Tara Ariano's topic in The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills
I remember this as well. But, I do recall Carlton being especially sensitive when it came to interacting with Kyle. She seemed standoffish with Kyle early on. But, the beginning that I remember where Carlton made it clear she was on a mission for Kyle happened when Kyle had invited Joyce, Carlton, and some non-housewives to her house. Carlton and Kyle were in the kitchen and Carlton was telling some randomly snooze inducing story about a cat killing a bird on her property and Kyle interrupted her to say something about getting the wine for the meal, and the look Carlton gave was a total "you just ,made an enemy for life" look. There was also the bee thing at the same lunch. I remember thinking that Carlton came on disliking Kyle but left that interaction hating her. -
Erika Girardi/Erika Jayne: Let them eat cake
MatildaMoody replied to ryebread's topic in The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills
I totally agree. Lisa had been under the impression that she and Ericka were forming a friendship based on the face that Ericka had shown Lisa all this time. She had no idea that Ericka felt the least bit of animosity towards her until that point. It had to come as a surprise to find that Ericka felt this way but had said NOTHING about it. So, I think Lisa realized she was dealing with a 2 faced snake in that moment.- 5.2k replies

A couple of things about that post. 1. How old is Anwar in that photo of her in the bathing suit? Wouldn't she still have been bedridden from the broken back according to her account of giving birth to him? 2. Did that poster board in the other picture list Chlamydia as one of her co-infections or did I read that wrong?

S06.E14: Not Easy To Love

This is actually one of Yolanda's notorious history re-writes. When Yo first said she had been bedridden with Lyme Disease, she stated in her blog that Lisa V. and Brandi had both come to visit her and were the only ones to do so in the off season. That was when she was part of the "Dream Team". Later, it became, Brandi was the only one to care enough to visit. For a while she went back and forth about whether or not Lisa visited her but then had to admit that Lisa had. Once the Dream Team was no more, LisaV went back to being just a Hollywood friend. I think these inconsistencies is why we had that early episode this season of Lisa V. telling Kyle that she had sent texts to Yo several times trying to arrange a visit and Yo kept saying she wasn't up to it. Because if Lisa V. had visited, her Yo couldn't play the "she hasn't supported me in my journey" card anymore. -
You know, I say this all the time. Why would anyone take medical advice from a housewife? But, I get disheartened when her "fans" claim what an inspiration she has been in taking control of their own invisible illness. I guess, I am more concerned that there would be parents out there who would completely eschew proper diagnosis for their children in favor of following ANY version of Yolanda's approach to wellness. And I get that there are most likely fans who are saying how inspirational she is to their own struggle, who may just be lying for the sake of defending her. But, if there is only one parent who thinks the best way to treat Lyme Disease or it's after effects is to follow they type of quackery Yo suggests for her own children, it is one too many IMO.

MatildaMoody replied to Tara Ariano's topic in The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills
So, I just read the blogs. I am back to not trusting Ericka and stand by my original stance that LisaV thought they were on the way to becoming friends and that this episode is the moment when they become enemies. From LisaV's Blog: From Ericka's Blog: So, Ericka was obviously putting a different face on things when interacting with Lisa V. Yet, she never once said any of this to LisaV, leaving her to believe they were actually building a friendship. I know I keep harping on this, but that extra footage of the women on the hoverboards, had me truly believing that these two were actually enjoying each other's company and that any pretense at there being this ongoing drama between them had been created in the editing room. Now, I am wondering if Ericka had been saying negative things about Lisa all along and this was just the first time, LisaV was made aware of it. It does explain Lisa's point above about how she realizes she misinterpreted Tom's "compliment." This irritates me because I want to like Ericka, but I just can't get a bead on her true personality (the sniper pun was unintended, but I'm leaving it there). Is she just Yolanda's hired gun at this point? Did she ever have any intention of engaging with and getting to know the women without Yolanda's influence? Something isn't right with this chick. I do disagree with Lisa's assertion that she didn't think Kathryn had ill intent by telling her what Ericka said. Kathryn was practically salivating at the opportunity to report back about what Ericka said. I'm seeing shades of Brandi in both of the newbies. Ericka acting as a spy/pitbull for Yolanda and Kathryn sidling up to Lisa and telling her that people are plotting to bring her down behind her back. -
I know a couple of people answered this, but I wanted to elaborate. The Spoon Theory is based on a essay by a woman who had been living with Lupus for years who was trying to explain to a long term friend what it was like to be chronically ill. http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/articles/written-by-christine/the-spoon-theory/

For me, this would somewhat depend on the order of the filming. Did the couples dinner between Lisa/Ken an Ericka/Tom happen before or after the BBQ? I personally think that there was no animosity between Lisa V and Ericka while they were filming. I think a large part of what we perceive as animosity is editing (I know no one wants to blame the editing). Let's think about that BBQ that Ericka played runtelldat on. We saw the extra footage of Ericka holding Vanderpump's hand and giggling while admonishing Lisa to take off her heels before getting on the hoverboard. These women seemed to really enjoy each other, at least enough for them to get together with their significant others away from the rest of the women. Even now in real time Ericka claims that she is cool with all of the women. I don't think there is a major conflict between Lisa and Ericka - or at least not yet. I think we are just supposed to think there is for the sake of the story. But, if we compare the two of them, there is no reason (other than Yolanda) for them to have the least bit of beef with each other. They have a ton in common. Aside from Ericka lying to Yolanda about what was said at the BBQ and Kathryn misrepresenting what Ericka said about Lisa, the two have no conflict. I think this is a situation where Lisa and Ericka actually enjoyed each other during filming, and BRAVO made them appear to be enemies and now they are watching that play out months after the fact so that they can hate each other when it comes time to film the reunion. If Lisa and Ericka both return next season, I would be willing to bet that they come back as friends. Kyle may have issues with that (I hope not because I like her and Lisa as friends and I think the three of them would be much more fun than the so-called "dream team"), but I don't think that the show has provided any reason to think that there is real animosity between Lisa and Ericka. The show just keeps hinting at it with their editing with no actual proof. Kind of like everything Yolanda has done all season with her "journey".

Lisa also said during that same conversation that Mo said the kids were fine, but Kyle and LisaR were talking over her so you have to listen closely to hear it. Lisa only said what Mo confirmed in his tweets and Instagram. Mo never said the kids were sick in his posts after the show. He only said that he said the kids were "fine" and that he supported his kids and their mother. The only person discrediting Yo was Mo; and Lisa V was obviously uncomfortable even repeating that little bit of information from him. It was one of the few moments throughout the series where you could actually see Lisa V realizing that she should have kept her mouth shut and one of the reasons I think that she has completely checked out of this show. She keeps trying to engage by asking questions of the others, but even that keeps biting her in the ass. I personally think that Lisa has a life that she enjoys and enjoys showing to the audience, but everyone on the show keeps trying to make her enjoyment of her life a weapon against her. And it seems like she is just tired of it to me. I totally get that. If I had her life, I would totally be like "look at the ponies" instead of engaging in some bs conversation that she already apologized for multiple times and thought was water under the bridge. -

I wanted to chime in on the real apology/backhanded apology discussion. For me, it isn't the word "if" that negates an apology it's what follows it that does. So, if someone says "I am sorry if I offended you." or "I am sorry if I made you uncomfortable." that is a legitimate apology to me because they are sorry for something they have done. If someone says "I am sorry if you feel that way" or "I am sorry if you felt offended" that to me is a non-apology/backhanded apology because it puts the blame on the person for even having a feeling. For me the "if" is just the transition into what the apology is about - it is a clunky transition that I try to avoid, but many people's speech patterns tend fall on using that extra syllable to transition into what the apology is about. In a perfect world, people would say "I am sorry I did XYZ" or "I am sorry for zyz" but I think as long as it is about what the person apologizing did, it doesn't really matter that the word "if" is being used. Now when it gets into the "I'm sorry if YOU" territory, that is when I give the side eye. -
I think that Ken is over all of it (honestly, I think that LisaV is too for the most part). I think when Brandi turned on LisaV and Yolanda accused Ken of assaulting her (which Brandi backed her up on), Ken felt like a foolish old man for even trying to engage on the show. If we also factor in his age and medical issues, he would probably rather just sit back and enjoy his life with Lisa without all of the crap that RH brings. Also, we haven't seen him interact with the RH husbands that he actually knows very much anymore. Mauricio isn't at as many of the filmed events (that we see), he doesn't seem to know Vince or Harry all that well. David has been completely MIA except for "supporting" Yolanda (not that it would matter since David rarely if ever interacted with the husbands anyway). There was the interaction with Donnie, but what would Ken have in common with him? In short, I think he got burned, took a step back, and doesn't have his "homies" like Paul and Mauricio to pal around with anymore. So he has checked out of filming and just shows up to support Lisa.

I agree with this. My issue is why haven't the women learned to diffuse the situation right there in the moment. If I am talking to Ericka and I ask her about her impression of Lisa V, and it is a negative one. I would say then and there, that I haven't gotten that impression from my interactions with LisaV. Maybe you should spend some time with her and get to know her. Or, i would say something like, "wow, I haven't felt that she is XYZ. Is that just a general impression, or has she said/done something to specifically make you feel that way?" That way it is very clear that even though I am engaging in the conversation, I am not backing the negative response and instead saying upfront that I disagree with the assessment. I get that this was probably a rookie mistake on Kathryn's part, but all of the women have fallen victim to runtelldat syndrome at some point, and it seems like they would have figured out a way around it by now. -
Hey Zoeysmom, what was the deal with testifying? For some reason, I thought she fought subpoena to testify for the defense.. I could totally understand her not wanting to testify on OJ's behalf, but some of the things I am reading here are saying she should have testified out of respect for Nicole. I don't know if I am misremembering, or if there is just general confusion over which side she was subpoenaed to testify for.

I have never asserted that this show defines Gigi's place in pop culture. My only point is that this is not some show for has beens. This is a legitimate gig to get a person's name out there and in the public arean quickly. It is a strategic step towards her stepping away from being known as just the face of the moment. Whether or not Gigi has the depth to back up anything other than a modelling career is on her. But, to discredit the show as a c-list crap is just plain incorrect in my opinion. The fact that the show does garner it's contestants millions of new followers overnight proves it's impact in creating recognition. I doesn't matter if you like the show or have never seen it. The show is another platform - and a really good one for getting name recognition along with "the Face" of Vogue or whatever magazine she is currently gracing. It also separates her that much more from the Housewives, which was her jumping off point in her bid for a career in fashion/entertainment.

Kim Richards: No Escape from Witch Mountain
MatildaMoody replied to Lisin's topic in The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills
I was going to post about this very thing. I seem to remember Kyle trying to be inclusive of Kim and Kim giving her grief over it (it had something to do with Kyle being overbearing in trying to "force" her to interact with everyone when she didn't want to). And then, Kim was upset that people were actually lauding their hostess. Wasn't there even a point where Kim purposefully turned her back to the others in order to not engage with them? Kyle got all kinds of grief from Kim for not including her, but Kim seemed intent on making sure she was on the outside. -
I think this misrepresents the show. This is Jimmy Fallon's baby. His Lip Sync Challenge was so popular on his late night show, that he created this show to allow celebrities to compete against whomever was willing. Having people like Terrance Howard, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Ann Hathaway, Justin Bieber, and Dwayne Johnson show up to have a fun fluffy battle that gets a million internet hits overnight is a good thing to have your name attached to. I know no one wants to give Gigi any credit, but I don't see any reason to discredit the show as a means of discrediting her. Also, since when is Tim Tebow no longer considered a name? Wasn't he just recently voted a favorite NFL star or something? The point is that the same "celebrities" that show up to do Jimmy Fallon's talk shows are the same ones you will see show up to do the Lip Sync Battle. This is a legit gig that can get you majorly noticed very quickly. The show itself is designed with Social Media in mind so you are put on the radar immediately when you battle.

Kim Richards: No Escape from Witch Mountain
MatildaMoody replied to Lisin's topic in The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills
I remember that as well. I also remember that Kim would back out of events at the last minute in order to avoid interacting with the other women. There wasn't a lot that Kyle could do to bridge the gap between Kim and the rest of the cast when Kim just didn't want to interact with them.- 6.9k replies

Kim Richards: No Escape from Witch Mountain
MatildaMoody replied to Lisin's topic in The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills
I agree. I think a lot of Kim's issues with getting people to support (not enable) her came from her expecting complete and total blind loyalty and devotion. I think Yolanda has the same narcissistic trait. It isn't enough to make a monthly or bi-monthly visit or a once a week dinner invitation. You have to be at their beck and call in order for them to consider you a loyal and true friend. You also have to accept what they say at face value without questioning anything even if what they are saying is obviously questionable.- 6.9k replies

Yes, I remember that. But, I don't think it changes my original statement. People, not just OJ's friends, but large sections of the American public, were in denial about him even being capable of committing such a heinous crime. I was a sophomore in College when this happened, and I remember one of my College professors denying the DNA evidence. OJ's friends weren't the only people in denial about his guilt. There were people who honestly believed he was innocent and celebrated the not guilty verdict, because IMO, they simply wanted to believe that he was innocent. I remember watching the verdict in my dorm room and hearing people cheering up and down the hall while my roommate and I sat in shocked silence.
-
Having witnessed the Bronco chase, arrest, arraignment, trial, and verdict, I suspect that OJ and Nicole's friends were simply in denial - which a huge section of the American public were also in at the time. In hindsight, it is easy to say, he was obviously guilty. But, at the time, there were large sections of people who just couldn't fathom that he was even capable of doing it. There was the public perception of OJ as a winner, a kid who came from nothing and made himself into an icon. It didn't jibe with the perception of a cold blooded killer. DNA as evidence was still being received with skepticism. His friends most likely really believed that he was innocent until they couldn't believe that anymore. I don't think it was about the money for a lot of them - sure it probably was for some. But, I think they simply didn't want to believe that he could have possibly done such a heinous thing.

Jenna is probably one of the least famous people on the show. I only mentioned her because her performance pretty much blew up the internet. She is Channing Tatum's co-star from Step Up and is also his wife. And they competed against each other. She performed Cold Hearted Snake and Paula Abdul showed up to dance with her - then, she broke out Channing's dance moves from the Magic Mike movies KILLED it. Channing did Let it Go and then a Beyonce number, and Beyonce showed up to back him. So, the judges called it a tie - I still think Jenna won that one. You should definitely search it out online, some of the performances are laughable, but others will have you clapping your hands. My whole point is that this is not a C-list has been show for folks on their way out of the spotlight. This is a very strategic step for Bella, as the show has the ability to make the contestants go viral overnight.
-
I wouldn't call this "c-list has been crap" though. I mean this show has had Joseph Gordon Levitt and Channing Tatum on it. hell, Beyoncé showed up to dance with Tatum (although, I still think Jenna Dewitt-Tatum should have won that battle rather than it being a tie. But Tatum had Beyoncé and Jenna had Paula Abdul, no one was going to say that Beyoncé lost to Paula).

Lisa Rinna: These are the Lips of her Life
MatildaMoody replied to Lisin's topic in The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills
A friend of mine actually met her once and said something very similar. She said that she was very sweet and talked to her and her husband as though they were old friends who had just run into each other unexpectedly. My friend said that when Harry came over, Lisa introduced all of them to each other as though my friend and her husband weren't complete strangers that just walked up to her unexpectedly.- 2.8k replies
