  1. Okay, this is creepy. I thought of that movie a little while ago and came directly here to post about it. I haven't seen it in years, but I remember liking it. It was kind of a black comedy (funny, but with murders). I remember that Stockard Channing played a college student who was dumpy and plain and was bullied. I think she tried to kill herself by crashing her car, but survived. Through plastic surgery, she's now beautiful and goes back to college to take revenge on all those who had bullied her. The person who cartwheeled out the window was a cheerleader, I think. I also remember that the guy who played Jon on 'CHiPs' was a football player (?) who bullied her, but I can't remember what she did to him. I also can't remember the ending. It looks like the entire movie is on youtube, so I might check it out soon and see if I still like it. I have 'The Philadelphia Experiment', 'The Final Countdown' and 'Horror Express' on DVD. They are among the movies that I drag out now and then when I want a movie to waste a Saturday afternoon watching..
  2. I thought that the whole murder plot was awkwardly written. I've already deleted the episode and can't remember who was supposed to get the book. The priest or the professor? Was the priest supposed to give the book to the professor? If the bookseller had planned to having the professor solve the mystery, then why didn't he mail the book to him as soon as he decided to confess his past crime? I was a little confused. However, I did like the idea of having the clue written as a puzzle along the book's side. I've seen beautiful examples of that art, where a book will just have a jumble of colors (kind of marbled-liked) when you look at the side of the book, and when you open the book so that the text is slanted, you see a picture, such as of a castle and a mountain. Really amazing. When did Angela decide to 'start over'? Has she talked about this before, or was this out of the blue? She breaks up with her boyfriend and quits her job. However, she apparently can afford to take her time deciding what she wants to do with the rest of her life because she still has a really nice roof over her head (free of charge, I assume) compliments of Maura. How nice for her! I just hope they don't have her get involved with all sorts of wacky activities, such as painting, pottery, yoga, etc. Not that those activities are wacky--they would just write them to have her goof them up. Maybe they'll have her join a new church that turns out to be a cult and they'll take her away. If she's going to re-think her life, I wish they would let her go to college or something. After saying all that, I don't hate Angela--I actually like her. But a little bit of Angela goes a long way.
  3. I wondered about the gas station scene, too. I did laugh as they were driving away 'Don't look at them Poppy. Look away.' (or something like that)
  4. "Georgie' is so good at the deadpan delivery. When he was in the radio station during last night's (Nashville) episode and talked about how he was 50th in line for the throne and if all 49 of the others were in a bus and if that bus went off a cliff he would be king (and then said that if he was driving that bus, then Poppy would be queen). You could hear the guys in the studio just cracking up. He was funny!
  5. I posted this in the 'media' thread, but it probably belongs here, since it's kind of a companion to the Nashville episode. It's a really bad song, but the video is kind of funny, and the tune will get stuck in your head all day. http://www.bbcamerica.com/almost-royal/videos/the-official-music-video/
  6. This is from a while back, but it made me laugh. What a combination! (I like TWD, too) Technically, not 'I love Lucy', but I saw today that CoziTV (I get the lineup of shows through one of my local Fox stations) will be airing 'The Lucy Show' beginning in August. I haven't seen those (good ones and bad ones) in decades. Maybe I'll ask for a show topic when it begins airing, if anyone else will be watching and wants to post with me. Rereading some of the posts, I need to get back to watching some 'I love Lucy' episodes. It's been a while since I've seen any.
  7. I just saw the episode where Ray refused to buy the dress for Ally to wear to Peggy's daughter's birthday party. The whole premise just makes me mad. Who in their right mind would actually send out invitations that insist that all the girls buy identical (except for the color, I guess) dresses to wear to the party? I really hated all of the episodes that Peggy was on (except for the one scene where Ray catches her at Peter's apartment--I wish Peggy and Peter would have ended up together, but I don't think she was seen after that). I have nothing against the actress who plays her (Amy Aquino, I think. I've seen her in tons of stuff I liked), but I disliked 'Peggy the cookie lady'.
  8. I kind of like the Hyundai Sonata commercial with the dad driving around the empty parking lot so that the little girl can 'drive' from the back seat (reminds me of Maggie in the opening credits of 'The Simpsons'). She is so intent on her driving and they both look like they're having a good time. When he stops because she looks like she's had enough and she does that little twirl thing with her finger and he takes off again, I have to laugh. She's one commercial kid that I don't find annoying. The first time I saw it, I thought that he was being reckless driving around like that, but he's in an empty parking lot driving slower than it looks, so now I just enjoy it. I looked it up--the song playing is Joan Jett's 'Family Racer'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5a7nm_UGCA
  9. That was a very well-acted scene. It reminded me a little of how the Goa'uld in 'Stargate SG-1'would insist that 'nothing of host remains' when they would infest a human--and they were wrong. The alien bad guys always underestimate us!
  10. Finally, a couple of Mechs make an appearance. I was beginning to think that they were all at the repair shop or something. I'm still not sure if I like the new design. They are getting too close to the whole Transformer look, in my opinion. That being said, they do still give off a creepy vibe to me when they just kind of appear and start shining those spotlights around. Do these 'hum', though? I didn't hear anything from them. I didn't make the connection that the creature was Jean until I realized that it was stalking Weaver and not the group. I'm also glad they finally explained the whole 'moon gazing' thing. I had seen so many instances where one character or another was staring at the moon. I was beginning to think that it was some sort of mass hypnotic thing that hadn't been explained yet. (Unless there have been other characters besides the Masons who have been looking. Then, it might mean something more.)
  11. I just finished making a devil's food sheet cake and frosted it with Ina's Peanut Butter frosting. Yummy, and yummy some more! I'm going to be very popular when I take that cake to work tomorrow. I think I would have been just as popular if I would have just forgotten all about making the cake and just took a bowl of that frosting to work. That stuff is good (and it looks pretty too-it comes out light tan and so fluffy).
  12. I caught this show this morning for the first time, and kind of like it. I definitely like it better than those other renovation/flip-type shows, where the hosts all seem to have such drama, crises and spend a lot of time yelling at each other. I think that some of the 'unexpected' problems are possibly scripted and are not unknown, but I find the hosts likable. I've only seen three episodes, but I really loved the house with the atrium. When I saw it beforehand, I hated the whole place (I never liked houses with those atriums in them--they always reminded me of when every office building that was built during the 1970s (?) had an atrium in it--usually with a 'floor' made of crushed white rock. Yuck!). However, I loved what they did with the atrium at the end and found the house to be totally livable. I agree with other posters that the designer (Jo?) doesn't seem to have a big range of ideas when it comes to design (lots of distressed wood, for example), but I like the way she mixes the furniture styles. Oh, and I love those baby goats! Adorable!
  13. Until I looked up this show on IMDB and checked out some of the names, I had no idea that Tony Curran (Datak) was the actor who played Vincent Van Gogh on two 'Doctor Who' episodes ('Vincent and the Doctor' and 'The Pandorica opens'). I thought he was very good as the painter.
  14. Season three's 'The Santa in the slush' (Sweets wants Bones and Brennan--who are currently being forced to attend counseling sessions with him--to go on a 'double date' with Sweets and his girlfriend)-- Sweets: 'If it all goes well, I'll withdraw my concerns. I'll release you back into the environment.' Booth: 'What are we, brook trout?'
  15. "Bug out" "Bug.....out" "Buggout". Hee!
  16. CalicoskiesNC, thanks for reminding me about the peanut butter frosting. I've been wanting to bake something to take to work, and I've found that some sort of sheet cake or cookie bar/brownie recipe 'travels' the best and is better for making available to the staff. I may just make a chocolate sheet cake and frost it with the PB recipe. I also like chocolate and cherry flavors together. Does anyone know of a good BC recipe that uses that combination? I have a 'decadent chocolate cherry mousse brownie' recipe that I like to make, but it's not a quick bake, since each layer has to chill before you put the next one on. I can't remember where I got it from, but I don't think it's one of Ina's. It's tasty, though, and makes a very pretty brownie when you serve it.
  17. I liked the episode, although the idea of locking myself up in an airtight metal room with no windows makes me a little claustrophobic. I guess I could never be a 'prepper'. Is it just me, or have they been using Susie (from the morgue) more than before? Usually, she just comes in, says a line or two, and leaves. She had a good scene with Korsak last week, and was having a good conversation with Frankie this week. I like that she's being featured more prominently (at least it seems to me), but I worry that we're being set up for something to happen to her character. Personally, I would like to see her get together with Frankie. I like seeing her having more to do.
  18. I didn't think that this episode was as funny as the other two, but I did like the 'fashion week' part where Poppy was having such a good time walking the runway and George was so proud of her. The 'WTF?' expressions shown by the audience members was hilarious.
  19. Now that it has been mentioned, I vaguely remember at least one or two Easters where we had a cake shaped either like a lamb or a bunny. I can't really remember for sure (although thinking of a 'lamb cake' makes me think--weirdly, I know--of the 'Spam lamb' that Radar made on M*A*S*H!). The Lemon Snow cake (and the orange juice cake) from posts above sound really good. I have a recipe (I think it's from an issue of Southern Living magazine) that I'm determined to make one day. You would really have to love lemon to like it, though. It's a lemon layer cake with lemon filling (like a curd, I guess), frosted with lemon buttercream frosting. The photo looks delish. I also have a variation that has a raspberry filling between the cake layers and the buttercream on top (with fresh raspberries for garnish). I would have to get really motivated, though. I tend to stick with cakes that are of the loaf, pound or sheet variety (although I used to make layer cakes all the time).
  20. I work at a university, and we used to have a guy come onto the campus who drove a van that was totally full of stuff, mainly books and papers. You could see roaches scurrying around if you looked closely through the windshield. Eeks! He kind of disappeared after a while (maybe the hoard ate him). I don't know if he had a house or if his van was his home. I also know another hoarder, although I've never been in her house. A friend of mine lives next door to her and says that the house is full of stuff, mainly newspapers and soft drink cups/straws. She has no water or electricity. I know that she used to drive a car that was piled full (just like the one in the photo above). She had a spot to sit and could barely see around the hoard to drive. When her car broke down, she just parked it in her backyard and now walks everywhere she has to go. If she can't walk there or get a neighbor to drive her, she doesn't go. I remember giving her a ride now and then when I saw her walking home from somewhere and did notice that she smelled (what my mom always called a 'soupy' smell), but it wasn't overwhelming. Until I realized she was a hoarder, I just thought she was eccentric. She always had an excuse for everything. When she mentioned once that she didn't have a fridge, her excuse for not having one 'right now' was that the old one broke and the one she wanted to buy wouldn't fit in the spot so she just decided not to buy one for a while (I didn't find out until later that she didn't have electricity). I always found her strange, but nice enough. However, the neighbors tell me that they consider her dangerous, because she uses the backyard as a latrine (because of the 'no water') and is so scared and paranoid about being robbed of her 'treasures' that she has a gun. They're afraid not only of the sanitary conditions and possibility of fire, but that she'll shoot up the block one day. I'm torn between being very thankful that I don't live near her and feeling sorry for her because I know that she has lots of health problems including uncontrolled high blood pressure and has had several small strokes and is likely to one day die in that house in her hoard. One interesting thing about her is that I know that she had worked a steady full-time job for over 40 years and recently retired. She is an only child, no family living (as far as I know) and has little to no expenses (probably just a little food and her property taxes and such). The scuttlebutt is that she has basically every dime she's ever earned (plus whatever she was left by her parents, if anything). That makes it sadder, in my opinion.
  21. You guys have hit on most of my favorites, but I also always like the one where Barney gets kicked out of his rented room by his landlady for secretly cooking on a hot plate (I remember he got caught when he let a pan of chili burn). I like the way he helps save his landlady at the end from that con man, but I also always felt a little sorry for Barney when he was showing Andy around his room. He was so proud of how he had fixed it up, especially when he was showing off his collection of detective magazines that he had had bound to look like fancy leather books. Poor Barney! Another favorite was when Opie was being swayed by the new kid--the spoiled one who threw a fit when he wanted to get his way. Poor Opie was trying to imitate the kid so that he could get an allowance without having to work for it. When he was whining and crying while he was kicking his heels on the floor: 'What are you doing on the floor?' 'I'm having a tantrum.' 'Well, don't get your clothes all dirty'. (then Opie just sat up and sighed. Funny!) I thought of the Andy Griffith Show this weekend, when I was battling a clogged A/C drain pipe. I was debating whether or not to try to figure out a way to fix it myself or to just give the A/C service company a call. As I was thinking about what to do, all of a sudden I heard a voice running through my head-- 'Call the man! Just call the man!' (I did and I'm hoping he fixed the problem)
  22. Booth: ' ...the last time Bones saw Epps, it got violent.' Cam: 'You'll be there to protect her'. Booth: 'She's not the one who needs protecting. Bones broke his wrist.' Brennan (with look of distaste): 'He touched me with his creepy serial killer hands.' (S2-The blonde in the game)
  23. I never watched this show when it first aired, but happened to notice a year or so ago that INSP was starting their rotation over with the pilot. I started watching it and enjoyed most of them. However, I found it interesting that they skipped three episodes. (And, I check now and then and those don't seem to be shown during any of the airings.) They are 'Halloween' (where Brian and the others try to conjure up ghosts), 'The First circle' (where Robert E. and Grace buy a house in town and some of the men join the local KKK), and 'The Permanence of change' (where Dr. Quinn substitute teaches at the school and teaches about evolution). I can see why a religious (wholesome?) channel might skip those because of the subject matter, but so many others deal with adult subjects as well. (treatment of the Native Americans, prostitution, alcoholism, murder, anti-Semitism, and all of the death/dying that is in every episode). They even aired another episode that had something to do with Robert E. and Grace's house--I think it was the one where their son was enrolled in the 'white' school and racial slurs were painted on the front of the house (blurred out, I noticed). There were also two other Halloween episodes that dealt with subjects like Frankenstein and even other ghosts. There was also an episode about dinosaur bones, but I can't remember if evolution vs. Bible was discussed.
  24. I loved the way Poppy said that she could be a member of PETA ('Protection including...animals...? or whatever she tried to call it) after she had stated that she loves animals--she loves eating and wearing them.
