  1. Penny: '...That...that...' Sheldon: 'Time machine.' Penny: 'Oh, please. That's not a time machine. If anything, it looks like something Elton John would drive through the Everglades.'
  2. Blanche: 'I'll give you anything. I'll give you one of my sons.' Dorothy: 'Blanche...' Blanche: 'I've given this a lot of thought. I've had 4 kids. I've never had a Mercedes. So, which one do you want? Biff, Doug, Skippy? No, don't take Skippy, he's got asthma'. Sophia: 'My hiney's asleep'. Dorothy: 'Fine, we'll keep our voices down'.
  3. Reading this thread is making me hungry, and I just had dinner! I had never even considered roasting veggies until I saw Ina do it (I had always steamed them) and now that's how I fix them most of the time. I love Brussels sprouts, broccoli and asparagus roasted with just a drizzle of oil and a sprinkle of salt. I've made her Easy Cranberry and Apple Cake and it was delicious! I used a deep dish pie pan because I couldn't find my tart pan and it came out fine. It is best eaten warm (or zap the leftovers in the microwave) and you almost have to top with some whipped cream (vanilla ice cream would work, too) because it is really tart (but I like it that way). I still have cranberries in the freezer from Christmastime--I might make one again soon. I forgot to ask: has anyone here ever made her coconut cupcakes? They looked really good on the old episode I saw it on and I have the recipe, I've just never baked them (I think they were coconut cupcakes, with either vanilla or coconut frosting and fresh coconut--lots of it--heaped on top).
  4. Rose: My mother always used to say 'the older you get, the better you get--unless you're a banana'. Blanche: 'She was listening to her car radio, Big Band, not all talk. There was a contest. Something about a little voice, a lucky number and a dime in a door handle. Then, Bim Bam Boosh, won the tickets!' Dorothy: 'Take a lesson, Rose. That's how you tell a story'.
  5. I didn't realize that the Thanksgiving in One Pot was an actual Semi-Ho recipe, but I haven't seen every episode. The description kind of reminds me of a segment on Guy's 'Diners, Driveins, and Dives' show where he visited a place (in a college town, IIRC) where they made a 'Thanksgiving Dinner' waffle dish. It was a large waffle made of stuffing, topped with sliced turkey, mashed potatoes, and cranberry relish. I'm a little ashamed to say that it actually sounded and looked pretty tasty (but I love sweet and savory together, so that was probably the reason). I guess the closest I've come to Semi-Ho cooking is that I'll occasionally use a boxed cake mix or bagged cookie mix as a base for a recipe. However, the rest of the ingredients are always 'good' (like fresh fruit, nuts, good chocolate, real whipped cream, etc.). I would prefer making the cake/cookies from scratch, but I don't always have time.
  6. I just checked there, and I did find a couple that I clicked on weren't there, but many others that I never got a chance to re-read (or read at all) are there (including Buffy, Semi-Homemade, and The Waltons--whew, that's a weird combination, isn't it?). I'm a happy camper this morning. I'm just getting involved here, but I look forward to a lot of posting (and reading) on Previously. I think that it'll be a good time for all. As soon as I catch up on a couple of projects around the house and at work, I want to catch up on some of reading. I'll add Alison Arngrim's book to the list.
  7. As a librarian, I heartily encourage you to check out the books from your local library. Don't be scared or embarrassed--we need the work! I'm always interested in what people are checking out, but I don't judge (you should see some of the stuff I check out!). I do work in a university library, so what our patrons check out isn't always as interesting as the public library choices, but that's okay. I did check my local PL catalogs, and there are about 12-15 of Lee's books available (I didn't realize that there were that many around), but I didn't see the two that have been mentioned here. I'll check one of my other haunts, used book stores. I'm definitely in for any book club discussion. By the way, it looks like some, if not all, of the TWoP 'Semi-Homemade' forum threads were saved to the internet archive's Wayback Machine, including the 'Holiday Show', which was the one that featured the infamous Kakes of Kultural Insensitivity.
  8. I'm happy to hear that the forum was saved. I saved some of my favorites, but never thought about saving to the Wayback Machine (duh!). I just checked, and many of the threads that I wasn't able to get to are there. Yay! I see lots of hours of reading ahead (I hated seeing the forums go because I wouldn't able to post anymore, but the worse part was not being able to go back an read them). On topic, I want to start watching the episodes (I think I get it on two channels right now) and making a list of the anachronisms. A list may already exist, but I like making lists and that would be a fun one. And, it's been a long time since I watched the show from the very beginning. Finally, have any of you read Alison Arngrim's book? ('Confessions of a prairie bitch', I think it's called) I need to get a copy, I've heard it's really good.
  9. I subscribed to this site this morning (I was--and still am--in mourning for that other place), but I'm glad I did. I did put what little life I have on hold for a few days so I could save some of my favorite threads. The LHOTP thread was one of them (all 1804 plus pages of it!). I wish I could have saved more, but I'm looking forward to creating some new nuggets of wisdom and snark with all of you in the (hopefully) years to come! Walnut Grove is no more, so let's sing 'Onward Christian Soldiers' and forge on!
  10. My first post on this site (hope I do it right!). Season three is a good one for me to start my re-watch. 'Shades of Grey', '100 days' (that one has great music), 'Crystal Skull', and 'Nemesis'. I also think that Jack looks his best during this season (and he's still snarky and not so grouchy).
