ElectricBoogaloo May 13, 2020 Share May 13, 2020 (edited) Smash cast will reunite for streamed performance of Bombshell in concert FYI - the title is a bit deceiving. The Bombshell show that was performed and recorded five years ago will be streamed and the cast will reunite to discuss Smash. Edited May 13, 2020 by ElectricBoogaloo 2 Link to comment

Irlandesa May 21, 2020 Share May 21, 2020 Oh that's interesting. BTW, I absolutely loved the Bombshell stream and cast interview last night. I even donated. 3 Link to comment
Ohmo May 22, 2020 Share May 22, 2020 The music is still all kinds of awesome! Loved the live stream last night. I was floored when Megan told the story about her husband being offered $6K for each ticket that he had for the concert. I remember that people were going crazy trying to get tickets. When the concert was held in 2015, I resorted to watching it on YouTube before it was yanked due to copyright. 1 2 Link to comment

At first I thought it seemed like an odd fit, not really quirky enough, but on the other hand if it's the story of Smash about the creation of the show Bombshell I can see how that overlaps with things like Slings and Arrows, The Drowsy Chaperone, and even The Prom. 1 Link to comment

luvthepros October 14, 2020 Share October 14, 2020 (edited) Hope you didn't watch the concert from the previous post. I did and the quality is not good at all and it is not professionally recorded. This is a professionally recorded video of the concert in HD quality. Enjoy!........ Bombshell Concert Edited October 14, 2020 by luvthepros Link to comment
Jane Tuesday February 27, 2022 Share February 27, 2022 I'm in rehearsals for a musical at our community theater. I got a bad cold, and my doctor gave me prednisone to help with my symptoms. It made me think of this crazy show. Hope I don't get addicted. lol Plus, in two weeks, I'M IN TECH!!!! 1 2 Link to comment
PurpleTentacle April 20, 2023 Share April 20, 2023 I remember amoung the many, many problems this show had, the perhaps biggest was that we were supposed to believe that Hilty and McPhee were bitter rivals on the same level. Watching the Bombshell performance, that still seems to be a bit far fetched. I mean she is a fine enough pop singer, but she is no Megan Hilty. I'm not sure if turning the show into a musical is a good idea. Guess we'll see. 3 Link to comment

I'm not sure if turning the show into a musical is a good idea. Guess we'll see. Exactly. I found this show so incredibly frustrating. I love musicals. I love backstage stories. This show was tailor-made for people like me — in theory. But there was this major disconnect I could not overlook. McPhee was just not made for Broadway (at least not the kind of show they were making) — and how anyone could see her as the better choice for the lead in a Marilyn Monroe bio when Megan Hilty is right there just doesn’t make sense to me. They finally made some needed adjustments in S2, but by then it was kind of too late and they still couldn’t let go of the “Karen is magic” story. S1 screwed them, then they flubbed the reset. I still go back and watch some of the musical numbers, but the whole show feels like such a missed opportunity. I do appreciate it for introducing me to talents like Hilty and Leslie Odom Jr. 2 2 Link to comment

It would have been better if the show played up that Hilty was the right person for the part..but didn't have the right connections or look to bring butts in seats....and the producers, etc said as much 1 Link to comment

She had to be the bestest at everything. It was pretty laughable. 1 1 Link to comment
ASpring1900 August 19 Share August 19 I just finished my rewatch, courtesy of Peacock. This show is a gem, with songs I can't get out of my head. Yes, a little far-fetched and cringy in some respects, but I greatly enjoyed it. My son's school put on Newsies this past winter and I became a bit obsessed with JJ, who I wasn't familiar with at all when I first watch Smash over a decade ago. I remember not liking his character on Smash because he had such an attitude. Now knowing he was filming Smash while performing on Broadway makes me think he really brought Jack Kelly with him to filming! Link to comment
krankydoodle Tuesday at 12:52 AM Share Tuesday at 12:52 AM ‘Smash’ Musical to Open on Broadway in 2025: "The long-in-the-works musical will begin performances on March 11, 2025, at the Imperial Theatre ahead of opening night on April 10." I rewatched some episodes last year and had a good time, but am surprised there's still so much interest in a show that was cancelled over 10 years ago. Link to comment
