Kromm June 11, 2014 Share June 11, 2014 Furley was okay, because Don Knotts was always throughout his career okay. But The Ropers had the benefit of being a double act, which inherently provides a lot more material. Plus Furley didn't really have a solid point of view--he was mostly just "wacky". The Ropers had clear agendas and points of view (two different ones--which made it even better). 2 Link to comment
WendyCR72 June 12, 2014 Share June 12, 2014 Don Knotts was a great comedian, but The Ropers trump Mr. Furley every day. Link to comment
smiley13 June 22, 2014 Share June 22, 2014 The Ropers were oh so much better than Furley. It was hard for me to watch Don Knotts on Three's Company after the genius that was Barney Fife. 1 Link to comment
SpishakIndustries November 8, 2014 Share November 8, 2014 I liked both. The Ropers had a lot of great moments, and there was certainly a place for Mr. Furley's brand of wackiness on the show. Link to comment
TheLastKidPicked November 18, 2014 Share November 18, 2014 I can understand the character of Mr. Furley falling a little flat unless you know somebody like him in real life. But if you do know somebody like that-- he nailed it! In college we had an older neighbor who was exactly like this. A guy who tried too hard to be up on the latest fashions, drive the latest cars, and "discover" the latest hot spot in town. He thought he was the coolest guy to ever walk down the sidewalk, and nobody ever told him different. Why would we? He wasn't hurting anybody. Imagine those commercials: "That's not how it works. That's not how any of this works!" as Mr. Furley announces the latest innovation in technology. I'm not sure many actors could have pulled this off the way that Don Knotts did. Link to comment
maplebrew February 2, 2015 Share February 2, 2015 The Ropers were more entertaining but Mr. Furley was a much snappier dresser! Link to comment

SmithW6079 February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 The Ropers, although I found Mrs Roper's constant hornines to be creepy and over the top. However, I never liked Don Knotts, no matter what the role. He always reminded me of a chihuahua. Link to comment
scowl February 25, 2015 Share February 25, 2015 As sitcoms age, they get more over the top. Don Knotts was a clever hire since Mr. Furley was always over the top, except for those very special episodes where he was revealed to be a highly insecure man (which everyone knew of course). 1 Link to comment
Lili November 15, 2016 Share November 15, 2016 Mr. Furley for me. I like his over-the-top expressions. I'm not a big of the Ropers, to be honest. 1 Link to comment
SnarkySheep September 11, 2017 Share September 11, 2017 I liked the Ropers in general, but I kinda wish that Mrs. Roper had had more of a personality other than "sexually frustrated housewife." It's funny to throw in a line here and there, but it gets old quickly. Link to comment
