Lilit May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 I know this show is always depressing, but this season feels like one long chain of depressing. 3 Link to comment
Birdee May 28, 2014 Share May 28, 2014 Good Lord. If my mother-in-law was half as nosy and intrusive as Shawn's mom, she'd be a funny smell in the attic at this point. 3 Link to comment
Yeldarbe May 28, 2014 Share May 28, 2014 I know this show is always depressing, but this season feels like one long chain of depressing. Agreed. I think they are going more in the direction of showing just how depressing being a teen parent can be, instead of showing that being 16&Pregnant can make you MTV famous. 2 Link to comment
WhitneyWhit May 28, 2014 Share May 28, 2014 I was expecting a bigger mess, especially with how they met, but it wasn't as bad as I was afraid it would be. The stupidity of chronic speeding tickets aside, I actually liked both of them. He worked, she went to school, they knew how to talk to each other and remove themselves from tense situations, the bar as been set pretty low this season, but I thought these two were the best ones we've seen. Word about his mother, though. Nosey and a huge enabler. I got the feeling she always tried to be more of a friend than a mother and the chaos of that house was the result. Link to comment
SpaghettiTuesdays May 30, 2014 Share May 30, 2014 Honestly, the one I felt the sorriest for was little Noah. I don't think they said where his bio mother was, but Aleah is his mom. I was heartbroken for him when she moved out, although I think it was the best decision she made for herself. I couldn't believe it when the boys (Shawn's brothers) were making all that noise in a house with a newborn and a toddler. Shawn's mother was definitely an enabler and reminded me of my aunt, whom I severely dislike. Speeding tickets and two unplanned pregnancies aside, I liked Shawn and felt he was one of the more responsible fathers on the show. I felt that he and Aleah had a good relationship and their communication skills were far superior to many of their peers, on and off the show. I hope the two of them worked through everything and could eventually get their own place, with both kids. 2 Link to comment
ccphilly June 2, 2014 Share June 2, 2014 What's up with Shawn's mom? Why did she want all those people in that small house? Her focus should have been on her other small children, not what Aleah and Shawn were fighting about. I have to say, I really liked both of them (Shawn and Aleah). I thought Aleah was so good with Noah. It's such a big responsibility to step in to parent a child and I thought she did a great job with him. I hope these two can get on track soon. Link to comment
IvySpice June 3, 2014 Share June 3, 2014 It really says a lot about the craptastic sperm donors on this show that reckless, selfish Shawn is well above the median in dadhood. I wouldn't want either child riding in the car with Shawn if he's unable to obey basic driving laws. If he doesn't respect speed limits even after repeated, expensive lessons, you have to wonder whether he views stop signs as just a suggestion. His mom was, as Chris Rock might have said, a low-expectation-havin'-motherfucker. Tell your son it's not OK to risk his life and his family's financial future! Don't just roll your eyes and say money's always tight. 2 Link to comment
ZaldamoWilder June 3, 2014 Share June 3, 2014 But Ivy, it's suuuuuper easy to speed in a stick shift! Except that I would imagine the exact opposite to be true. To quote a TWOPer in the 16&P thread, how fucking hard is it not to speed? At a certain point (in two different states no less) don't they just take your car on your next traffic stop? I liked the both of them as well but Shawn was way the hell getting on my nerves with his: well how mad do you think it makes me that I can't keep any of the money in my wallet....but I don't take it out on you! Proud of Aleah telling him that's because they're your muffucin tickets. His mother's inability to maintain order in her own house would have me lasting one day. Her own parents seemed loving enough, was there a reason she and Peyton couldn't live there? I didn't hear it properly, what was the thing Shawn's mother said to her when Aleah said Peyton's breastfed, she was coming with her? Link to comment
Indy June 3, 2014 Share June 3, 2014 I didn't hear it properly, what was the thing Shawn's mother said to her when Aleah said Peyton's breastfed, she was coming with her? It was something about how Shawn bottle feeds Peyton too (trying to negate Aleah's argument that the baby should stay with her). Link to comment
gunderda June 6, 2014 Share June 6, 2014 Her own parents seemed loving enough, was there a reason she and Peyton couldn't live there? I missed most of it - but I thought I caught her saying that his mom lived a lot closer to where he worked (an hour difference I think) and they wanted to live together so they decided to live at his mom's house and not her parent's house. (although I don't know if there was an option for them both to stay at her parent's house) Link to comment
wrestlesflamingos June 6, 2014 Share June 6, 2014 Yup, that was the explanation: Shawn's mother's house was closer to his job. From Aleeah's parent's house the commute would have been 45 mins. A nagging thought about these two: I wonder if the communication skills came from group counseling in juvie. Kudos if it did, thats some genuine rehabilitation, but I did wonder if they were failing upwards. Link to comment
gunderda June 10, 2014 Share June 10, 2014 It bugged the crap out of me when his mom would get in the middle of their arguments. I think she meant well and didn't want them to argue but she was better to just stay out of it because it always seemed like she was taking his side. Link to comment
