S01.E02: I Think I'm Gonna Tolerate It Here

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure whether that was supposed to be a third bedroom or a closet but that's one tiny bedroom. Maybe not for NYC though.

So, I've seen Fortune Feimster (Ruby) in about four different shows so far and I have to agree with a previous poster in the pilot thread - she seems to be the same character in everything she does. I guess that's her "schtick" but I've seen it so many other places now it's just tedious instead of funny.

Aside from her, I really do like the main cast, and I hope Mindy Kaling continues to make cameo appearances since she's a writer and producer on this show.

This show sucks. After what seemed like an hour, I realized that only 15 minutes had gone by.

I wanted to punch the teenage drama queen right between his overly tweezed, waxed, and shaped eyebrows for being such an obnoxious puke. I wanted the father to find his balls, tell the little dick that his mother may have let him get away with playing the aggrieved star in a telenovela, but that he wasn't going to put up with that bullshit, and there were rules Michael needed to follow. He was perfectly justified in telling the mother that she had been a bad mother -- because she is.

I wanted to tell the gym employees  that they're the sorriest bunch of personal "trainers" I've ever seen in a gym. Other than the Indian woman and the uncle, are any of them in any kind of good physical condition? The father trains the lesbian trainer's clients and finds out she's basically useless. Fire her ass.

I wanted to tell the uncle to stop being the nephew's bitch.

Ugh. Just awful, awful all around. Is Mindy Kaling supposed to be some kind of comedic actress and writer? Because if this is an example of what she creates, I don't see any talent at all.

This can't be cancelled soon enough. Apparently, the Cancel Bear thinks so too: Cancel Bear vs. NBC, week 24: ‘Champions’ may win this season’s ironic title award

Feimster is a weak spot for me, too.  I don’t think she can act well and I don’t like the character she always plays.  It feels like they’re trying to check off quota boxes.   Funny woman, check.  Lesbian, check.   Overweight person, check.

I think they better be careful with making Michael too much of a diva.  The towel crap was bordering on it.  No one wants to hate the adorable kid.

I like the show, though.   Lots of funny lines.  So it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s cancelled.  Usually comedies I like are.

Too late. I can't stand him.

I might watch a show about a bunch of misfits at a rundown gym, which could skewer Americans' obsession about physical appearance while actually getting fatter and fatter.

This is not that show.

It seems like a big part of the show will be Vince and Matthew's influence on Michael. Michael is a kid that has been coddled and indulged his whole life, and Vince in particular is enforcing some sense of discipline on him. This is almost the opposite of what you would expect from a sitcom where a son, raised by a single mother, ends up living with his father and somewhat dim uncle.

That petulant towel dropping was enough to send me into a rage, so I really hope you're right that they don't indulge his BS. That kid would be a nightmare to society by the time he reached adulthood, if he isn't reined in NOW. It's not just that he was indulged. Tossing your wet towel on the living room floor and tantrumming about being asked to hang it up is way beyond a slightly coddled kid, it's monster petulance that should have faded by the time the kid reached preschool.

Agree about Ruby, I especially see zero difference between this character and her Mindy Project one, unlike Anders Holm's character here which has noticeable differences even though the actor's performance feels familiar to Casey on TMP in some ways.

In terms of the third bedroom, for what it's worth as someone who knows NYC well, I absolutely thought it was a great improvised third bedroom, roomier than many second and third bedrooms I've seen in NYC that were originally meant to be the housekeeper's quarters. Those do not have room to include a desk and chair next to the bed like this room can, for example. Certainly not roomy, but for what was apparently a 2-bedroom loft to start, that's a great converted space to me. But if you don't know NYC, then yeah, I'm sure it looks tight as hell.

Comparable to Kimmie's in Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt but with a desk, as JasmineFlower said. And Kimmie's room actually was a closet!

Wow Michael is insufferable... There's being coddled.. And being a self absorbed dick.. He obviously knows he's a minority he brings it up enough so he should know the backstory that comes with it... Ugh I hope he's toned down soon

I like the other gym workers they are funny.. Matthew and vince have a great dynamic.. But Michael... Can we are do the show and just make the gym the star and throw him in the background to be zany every few episodes?

Or better yet, the teenage diva discovers he's a very, very small fish in a huge pond of uber-talented teenagers and runs shrieking home to Cleveland or Cincinnati or wherever he's from to be nestled once again in the bosom of his mommy.

Aww, I felt for the guys when they found out that their precious pinball machine was just going to be destroyed for a youtube video. It's one thing to sell something you love (whether it's a pinball machine, a family, your wedding dress, etc) because you need the money to pay a bill immediately. It's another thing to find out that the buyer is just going to wreck it for the lulz.

Or have to sell it because your bratty newfound son keeps pitching diva fits, thereby rewarding him for his bad behavior.

They sold it because they needed to pay the $5000 immediately and their fundraising event only got them like $200.

Matthew and the Feimster character are the only ones I can stand on this show...

And your future bills will be smaller, because no more family!
