A lot of the affection that I had for Ruby came from her taking in Candy after she was beaten and them talking about the other prostitute who had died and left her suede coat.   And Candy took the coat as a tribute.  It helped her heal.  At the end of this episode, we see Candy/Eileen wearing Ruby's coat.  She's carrying a little of Ruby forward.

Personally, I hope they decide to jump a little less and keep the show in the 1970s for a season or two. Granted, I don't know where they need to go to have "meat" for their historical endeavors, but I really enjoyed the early '70s atmosphere here. Also, it's hard to see how they keep most of the main cast looking age-appropriate if they jump too much. I'm assuming that besides Franco and Maggie, some of the MVPs like CC, Lori, Darlene, Alston, Pipilo, and Abby will be sticking around.

What are you comfortable saying about where the story will be when we return?

Simon: We’re still figuring out explicitly where we want to drop in and where we want to come out, but it will be in the late 70s. And the third season, should it be approved, and go forward, would be in the mid-1980s.

*sniffle* Poor Ruby. I get why they killed her (showing that despite the efforts to "clean up" prostitution, some women still get hurt, or even left behind if they dont fit a certain mold) but it still really sucks. It sucks a lot. 

It is nice to see Eileen doing well in her new industry of choice though, and her and Harvey are a great team. I`m not super excited about a time jump (more on that later) but I will certainly enjoy seeing where the two of them go from here. With her knowledge of sex and his knowledge of film, they can be a force to be reckoned with. Seeing porn go into the Porn Chic era should be a very interesting transition, followed by everything in the 80s becoming more sex drugs and exploitation. At least, thats what movies have taught me. 70s was all fun and games, while 80s was when everything wen bad and everyone ODed on Reagan and bad coke. Also, Eileen's father is a nasty piece of shit. Still not sure how she decided becoming a hooker was the best way to make money, but I am now more interested in her family history than her career choices. 

I really loved this season, so I will be really happy to see more of this story, but I cant say I`m excited about the time jump. So many shows are doing it lately, and its becoming a lazy way to get characters to new places without having to actually write them getting to those places, or get them in new relationships without having to write the new relationships. Granted, some shows have done it well, but a lot of shows haven't, so while this show has earned a lot of good will from me, I am going to be side eyeing this future plot development. 

3 Pimps in a Diner is a great concept for a spin off show, or a basic cabal movie review night.

I think her conversation with her brother was very enlightening. I honestly don't think she was sexually abused or that she suffered any kind of trauma to lead her to be a prostitute. My interpretation is that she was just into the sex business and the idea of using her own body to make her living. And empower that. She wasn't interested in a man pimping her. And when it comes to her father, I think it was the despise she feels for him and his conservatism that was her fuel to embrace the life she wanted to live. We can see that in the way she talks to Patrick about their father. And she encourages him to embrace his homosexuality by saying with a smile in her face "Dad would fucking hate it."

That's it for me. It was enough to get her. And honestly, I don't think we're seeing anything about her "background" story next year. The rest is on our interpretations.

And yeah, I don't like the time jump idea too. And hate the idea of only three seasons.

I'm getting free HBO so I'm watching this, I'm on episode 3 and already I think I need a shower, lol.  I'm glad it's only 8 episodes.

It's...kind of interesting but so many characters to try and keep up with.  I was sad to see that David Krumholtz has gotten fat; I thought he was hot in Numb3rs.  I guess they were going for a Ron Jeremy lookalike?

I just can't with Maggie G's "low hanging fruit" though.  I keep yelling "Bra!" in my head.

Just FYI as this came up earlier, the weight gain appeared to be a side effect of treatment for thyroid cancer so if he's back next season he won't be that heavy.

I hadn’t heard that, I thought he was just trying to look authentic.  I want him to be healthy, but that look works for the part.

His cancer was diagnosed and treated in 2011 and he was declared cancer free in 2012 (yay, David).  So who knows if his weight change will not still be around next season?  And, unless he and his Dr. are worried about it, who cares?  He looks healthy and his look suits the part.

Sorry, I didn't make clear that he recently posted a picture where he said he had lost a bunch of weight. (Or at least at some point he posted it, not sure when it was taken.) So that's why I would assume he would not be the same weight as he was this season.

I'm almost a year late in watching (and thus commenting on) this show, but I'll go ahead anyway.

I loved this show. Loved it. Dare I say I loved it almost as much as I loved The Wire? 

From having watched The Wire, I knew that some of my favorite characters would die, and so, for the entire season, I held my breath for Chris. Would Simon kill D'Angelo again? I was happy to see that he survived, although I fear that, going forward, one of his fellow policemen might do him in.

I also thought for certain that Darlene would meet a tragic end, but, again, I was wrong.

But Ruby. Poor Ruby. I was absolutely shredded by her line about how she wasn't often chosen from the lineup in the brothel, and so she was back on the street, taking her chances. But what a sweet scene between Ruby and Chris. 

The writing and acting and everything else on this show are so far above anything else I watch on TV that it was a true pleasure to watch these eight episodes. 

And, like so many of you, I was happy to spot the actors from The Wire. Now, if Dominic West makes a cameo in Season 2, I might just faint.
