For the first time in its history, “American Idol” will air a “Songs of Faith” special in honor of Easter Sunday — April 20, 2025. In addition to unveiling the first voting results of season 23, the three-hour episode will feature faith-filled performances from the contestants and celebrity guests.

Throughout the competition so far, many of the Top 24 contestants have performed Gospel and Contemporary Christian songs — a trend that Bryan credits Underwood for inspiring.

“The kids this year have showed up with more of that maybe than in years past, and that’s been something really, really special to watch,” Bryan told Billboard ahead of the “Songs of Faith” episode. “I’m sure she probably thinks, ‘Am I making a difference?’ but it showed this year. A couple of episodes ago, she asked, ‘Historically have people done so much gospel?’ And I said, ‘You may be having a little something to do with that.'”

Amidst all the inspiring performances, the contestants will have to face the music as host Ryan Seacrest announces the results of viewer voting following the Hawaii performances that aired a week before. The Top 24 will become the Top 20, and viewers will be asked to vote again on their “Songs of Faith” performances. The Top 20 will then be narrowed down to just 14 contestants on the live April 21 episode.

It sounds like they're pandering to the bible belt portion of the audience.  What if some of the contestants don't belong to any religion or are not spiritual at all?  What if they are agnostics or atheists?  Or maybe they're religious and want to keep their faith private and away from the glitz and glamour. Will they have no choice in the matter?  The only thing I can think of is maybe they'll be allowed to sing a secular-type inspirational song like Greatest Love of All, Don't Stop Believin' or Walking on Sunshine.

Does anyone question other theme shows, or just “faith based”?

I understand the point you're trying to make, but we'll just have to agree to disagree.  No one is forced to sing a song about drugs, cheating, etc.  There are thousands of country songs, rock songs, and pop songs that don't mention any of that.

I believe in God and am a very spiritual person, but I don't believe in forcing anyone to believe as I do.

We will agree to disagree. ❤️
But I believe in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20) and live my life very much trying to encourage people to believe as I do. I hope your resurrection Sunday is blessed. 🙏🏻

Ex-‘American Idol’ judge reveals what's wrong with reality shows nowadays — and it’s not the contestants
BY MEENAL MEHTA   APRIL 22, 2025

Former 'American Idol' judge Randy Jackson is shedding light on the evolution of singing competitions! During an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Jackson, who served as a judge on the ABC singing show 'American Idol' from 2002 to 2013, stated that these days, many reality shows are being way 'too nice' to their contestants and not telling the artists the real truth about their voices. “One of the things I don’t like today, there’s very little truth being told on these shows. If you’re terrible, you need to know it. I think they’re all too nice now. … This is a tough, hard, mean, give-zero-F’s business. … [A] real reality show, you’re telling people the truth. Wouldn’t you want to know the truth?” Jackson told the media publication.

In the same interview, Jackson reflected on the time when he used to be one of the judges on 'American Idol' alongside fellow judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul. “Simon Cowell and I were A&R guys. We were not just performers like you see on these [singing shows today]. We were A&R guys. So our life’s work was to try and sign, develop, find, and discover new artists and make great records. So what they were about to do was exactly what we did," Jackson said.

While addressing the topic of singing competitions treating their contestants too nicely, Jackson also revealed that there were times that Cowell would "berate" the singers, and sometimes he would even take things a bit too far. However, Jackson felt that some contestants auditioning on the show needed a reality check. Later on, Jackson expressed that over the years, the judges may have gotten nicer towards contestants because they don't want to receive any sort of criticism from the artists. “An artist is never going to be that brass with someone because they don’t probably want to get it back. They don’t want to get it back, and they want to be liked,” Jackson shared at that time.

Yikes lol.

The faith night left a really yucky taste in my mouth. I was really into this season but that really put a damper on it.
