Perfect Xero December 14, 2016 Share December 14, 2016 Quote Viv gets a reluctant Katie to help out with the school Christmas pageant; Greg takes Taylor and Oliver to a nursing home to cheer up the residents. Why doesn't the elf have feet? 1 Link to comment
iMonrey December 14, 2016 Share December 14, 2016 This show really lives or dies with Katy Mixon. Her facial expressions and her delivery make up for somewhat lackluster writing. I knew that elf was going to burn as soon as I saw it sitting on top of the lamp. Why would anyone put anything on top of a lamp? Greg's inability to teach the kids a lesson was pretty funny too. 5 Link to comment
Perfect Xero December 14, 2016 Author Share December 14, 2016 (edited) I did like how he made them buy the woman at the home a present with the money at the end, only to find out that it was only a $20 shirt. Edited December 14, 2016 by Perfect Xero Link to comment
Texasmom1970 December 15, 2016 Share December 15, 2016 I totally agree with the pushing the young kids for a holiday concert. Both my daughters are in band and choir, at different ages and stages. I know they teachers want them to perform to the best of their ability but they can get kind of nuts especially around the holidays. No offense to any teachers. I think they are saints I could never be one. I did giggle at the Krampus reference, my daughter and I are horror freaks and we watched it just a week or two ago. It was nice of her to invite her neighbor, played by Leslie Bibb over, you can tell her character is lonely. Link to comment

As a Mixon fan (and spending years lamenting her criminal underuse on Mike & Molly), she just makes me giggle every episode, but I can see the reliance on her as a blessing/curse. The husband is as likeable as I've ever seen that actor, not that I've disliked him before, just not my cup of tea in other roles. I'm going to be absolutely horrible here, but the son is just bad in this role---he's got the smug/sneer down (a little too well) and isn't selling me in his 'human' moments. Maybe they can write him so he's not so extreme going forward...or something...he does not work at all for me. Overall I feel like the show is finding its legs and, although it's not something that compels me to comment a lot, it remains a show that I am happy to see pop up on my DVR list (I never know when most new shows actually air). 3 Link to comment
ShellSeeker December 15, 2016 Share December 15, 2016 I could see the elf thing coming a mile away, but it still made me laugh. I've got 10 more nights of that damn thing. The mom of one of my daughter's friends (who is a good friend of mine) is super creative with their elf, so my daughter is unimpressed with ours. Our poor elf lives with someone who is an IT nerd with an accounting degree. Her creativity is limited. And the throwaway line of, "It's about half the price of the one you're thinking of" made me laugh too. 5 Link to comment
Snarklepuss December 15, 2016 Share December 15, 2016 The high point of this episode was Hal Linden, star of the '70s sitcom "Barney Miller". Yep, I'm old. Other than that, I am not really a fan of Katie Mixon in this role. The lackluster writing is one thing but I find her facial expressions make her look like she's always smelling poo. 4 Link to comment
Tiger December 15, 2016 Share December 15, 2016 Apparantly Katy Mixon and her Olympian boyfriend are expecting a baby. I really hope they dont write it in. I think the show is still finding its legs and a baby is the last thing it needs. Link to comment

As much as I like Katy Mixon, I don't understand her character's constant seething rage. Why move to this neighbourhood if you hate everything it's about? Yes, the good school, but her kids don't seem like high education potential, sorry. And what does she do all day, that she can't decorate for Christmas or volunteer at school? Does she have a job? I think the show has potential, but the writers need to dial down the stereotypes. 7 Link to comment

I think the point is she has time, she just dislikes the community so much she has no desire to interact with her neighbors. Link to comment

The PTA episode established that they only moved to the area so that the youngest daughter could be in a particular specialist teacher's class. 3 Link to comment

I sit thru the show just to see the Black woman and the Asian woman. If this show doesn't work out, give them their own show. 4 Link to comment
