I’m not sure if I’ll be able to watch Season 2. So another person taken out on the way to a court matter.....please. I just can’t.  I instantly turned it off. Maybe, I’ll just go to season 3....but...no, please don’t....lol.

Season 1 was better than the other seasons. The next 2 seasons had some strange stuff going on but for me BBT could read the phone book and make it interesting.

I'm going to have to prepare myself to get back into it.  I just don't think that taking out the father like that was a good idea.  Maybe, at another location, but, on the way to court proceeding.....nah.  That ticked me off.  I'll return later.

I was intrigued because a lot of the writing is pretty good.  I'm an attorney, so, a lot of the stuff about how you go to trial a few days after filing your lawsuit without discovery really is silly. This was more realistic.   I was confused why Billy mentioned beyond reasonable doubt in a civil trial, when it's a preponderance test.  Still, it wasn't bad.  And, why did the attorney think that Billy had to accommodate her under ADA?  I saw no duty to her under that by him.

Yep.  Although I will take the weirdness of Season 3 over whatever happened in Season 2.

Season 1 had a lot more involvement from David E. Kelly, famous for his many lawyer shows (The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Legal, Harry's Law, etc).

Season 2 did not have as much (if any) of DEK's involvement and it is... different. Much less emphasis on the legal aspects. More of a crime drama with a lawyer in it. There are some disturbing scenes, some really twisted stuff that might make you not want to continue watching.

Season 3 was better but gets straight whimsical at times. Again less law, more crime drama. Still, some powerhouse performances from all involved. And who knew water politics could be so interesting?

I finally finished Season 2.  It was really bad, imo. Most of it made no sense. As others upthread have posted, the whole thing was poorly written. Why did they show that Tom sent Brittany flowers to her office while she was with him on the bunk beds?

There were two parts that made me LOL. One, was when Patty is telling Clayton what she’s like at home with Vick’s on her feet, no makeup, jammies, etc. Too cute. She’s a very credible actor.   The other time I really LOL was when Billy is instructing the lady who was being held captive with him how to stab their captor in the balls and get away. Her response and his reaction to it was awesome. I’ll watch that part again.

Omg, I hope season 3 is better in general.

Season 3 is weird too but I liked it better than season 2.

I keep watching because I like the premise. It reminds me of some of those old tv characters like Baretta, Jim Rockford, Colombo, etc. and it has a good ensemble. I also have a weakness for that area. CA.

I just finished Season 3 and I liked it best of all the seasons, though, it was rather weird.   I did think it was funny how there was a line of people who kept going to the sister and giving her bad news.  Then, she would squash them!  I mean, when do you stop thinking it's a good idea to give her bad news?  She doesn't like threats.  lol Was she dead at the end, after the car crash? It looked like it.  Was Billy still alive? Why did Billy keep hanging around that place?  I'd be thinking that someone might punish me for costing them all that money.

I just love the character and actress who plays Patty.  She is so good!

Overall, I found Season 3 very entertaining.

Just found this on season 4.

I just finished bingeing the entire series:

1. Season1.  It grabbed me fast.

2.  Could have done without the entire amputee porn.

3. Season 3 was a big "fuck you" to Hollywood.  BBT is not a nice person.

Did anyone understand the first 15 minutes? I don't and I rewatched it 3 times.

I will keep watching and hope it make sense later. But if anyone can explain it I don't mind spoilers.

I'll keep my review spoiler free for now. I think this is the best season of Goliath bar none. It was great all the way through and it didn't stray into the crime drama territory that seasons 2 and 3 turned into. Fantastic performances by all, a great setting and a great conflict. I'd say I was sad that there won't be more but I don't know how they would top this.

I finished this last night. The first few episodes had me confused, what? and many other things. By episode 4 the whole storyline became apparent and it had a strong ending. Very apt in today’s world.
On Patty’s pregnancy:

Spoiler

She lost the baby and I think it was explained in the last episode

I just finished and I agree this is the best season. I'm still a bit confused about some of it and looking forward to discussing when more people have finished watching.

Do I need to rewatch any of last season before tuning in for season 4?

No, this is a completely different journey. It may be awkward the first few episodes, but when it gets going it’s like a locomotive.

Season 1: Was never a David Kelley fan but this was involving from beginning to end. Nice work by Molly Parker and Olivia Thirlby. Nina Arianda gives a breakout performance, and BBT carries the show.

S2: An enormous drop in quality from S1. Watched it mainly for Patty. Episode 7 was truly awful.

S3: while S2 was unpleasant and plothole-y, this was just annoying. The Marisol thing felt tacked-on as a reaction to the unsatisfying ending of the previous season.

S4: A slight recovery, but only slight. The endless scenes of Jimmy driving/wandering through scrub desert in S3 were replaced by endless scenes of Jimmy shuffling through San Francisco Chinatown at night in the rain/fog. Does it really rain that much in SF?

Well, I binge watched season 4. I got used to the quirky stuff and started liking it better.  I think I need to watch it again before making any final conclusions.

I did have to really suspend reality when it came to the courtroom scenes…..omg..where to begin.  😝  A lot of things were just not right.  I’m an attorney and it sort of annoys me to see inaccurate legal scenes. Anyway, I just had to get passed it.  I can see why they did it.  The comments from the judge were so contrived though.  A lot of cliches that other judges have said in movie and tv shows.  They could have used a little more creativity on that.

The acting was top notch though.  Not a poor job in the whole thing. Man, everyone was at the top of their game on that!

I still have questions and need to go back and figure out some details.  I’m interested in other viewers’ impressions.

I think the acting has been great in the whole series except his daughter can be a little wooden.

I’m thinking back to other seasons…..I think she did great in this one though.  Not a lot of screen time, but I liked the bar scene a lot.  She was really done with his behavior.

I just finished Season 4 and LOVED it. I was all in right in the first episode, when it was all so film noir, and the one scene that was so "Rear Window"!! So hokey but wonderful.

I enjoyed every single episode, with only one exception. The scene where he gets pushed off the building and manages to grab a ledge on the way down. That's the one thing that's beyond the pale for me. I mean, it's impossible.

But everything else, great. I loved all the callbacks, even to the goat-in-a-sweater. I loved how we sort of guess Patty's tragedy, but it's never used as a huge dramatic scene. I loved Billy's enigmatic relationships with Patty and Brittany. I love how Zax kept throwing things at his poor son's head (you know, the one who sees dead people.)

So fabulous production values, stellar acting, weird and quirky plot... 5 stars from me. Most of all, I thought BBT was perfect in the role, followed by the actress playing Patty. They made the show.

Who does his daughter look like? It's a famous actress or model, but I can't think of who. It drove me crazy.

I think I know who you might be talking about.  Will try to find a pic.

I thought they did reveal Patty’s tragedy.  He was born with blood or heart disorder.  ?

Yes, near the end, another character talks about it briefly when Patty's not around, but most shows would have used the tragedy to give Patty a huge emotional reveal. I found it so much more effective this way, because Patty has such a suit of armour around her emotions and anything deeply personal. You only find out secondhand and feel so terrible for her, like in the scene where she almost cries in the elevator for 15 seconds after holding a baby. It's really powerful.

Billy’s daughter is played by actress Diana Hopper.  To me, she resembles the actress who played the “new” Becky on Roseanne.  Photos in link.

She also resembles the singer Jewel.

I agree she bears a resemblance to both of them, but they're not the ones I'm thinking of. I'm going to have to do some googling. Maybe of current popular models.

Ok, I'm back. So she looks somewhat like Gisele Bundchen, but I think she looks more like Gigi Hadid. But only in certain pictures.

Why did Zax's son punch him out after the verdict? Was it because he thought his dad screwed up on the stand or mad about things his father did in the past? Or just mad about losing money?

I had the same feeling that the daughter looked like somebody else from the past. Maybe a teenage Tatum ONeal?

Oh yeah! Tatum for sure.

I saw Billy last night on Seth Myers.  He was pretty positive about season 4.  I enjoyed his stories about his famous old friends like Dern.  What I wondered is why there is no bad blood between them. Recall that Billy was engaged to Dern’s daughter Laura some years ago and Billy suddenly married Angelina Jole without so much as a phone call!  I guess Dern doesn’t hold grudges.  🥴 Or, Dern thinks Billy got punished enough when he married Angelina.  Lol

I never made the connection between BBT and Bruce Dern! It seems to me that after ditching Laura for Angelina, he more or less deserted Angelina after she adopted Maddox (according to her.)  Maybe Bruce doesn't hold a grudge because he figures his daughter dodged a bullet? I love BBT as an actor, but I suspect I wouldn't like him as a person.

That just triggered a memory. Some years ago, BBT was appearing up here in Canada in a little band he was in. He was interviewed about it on CBC radio by an extremely popular radio host. Apparently before the show BBTs people had said he didn't want any mention made of his acting career, just his musical one, such as it was. At some point during the live interview, which was also televised, the host, who was super respectful and polite, alluded to a movie he was in or something. BBT glared at him and basically stopped answering questions for the rest of the interview. It was excruciatingly awkward and BBT looked incredibly petty and spiteful. So yeah, probably not that great of a person.

Probably all the above but mostly that he just lost their multibillion dollar company that he would inherit. JK was a great addition as was Bruce Dern.

So what was up with the Asian lady and the dog? Was she a spy or just a coincidence throughout the show?

Nice ending and back to season 1 standards. I don't care to revisit 2 or 3.

I'm pretty sure she was just a coincidence. As she pointed out, whenever Billy saw her somewhere, she was already there.

Ranking: 1st, 4th, 3rd, rewatches of 1, 4, and 3, and then 2. Patty and Billy made their fortunes yet still they fight against big business and are in some ways worse off than before they found each other. I felt the mayor was forced into 3 because no one was happy with 2.

Patty gets the firm $1.4 billion dollars (30% on $14Bn) and damn straight her name goes on the door. They’re gonna need bigger doors.

I wish the show were advertised better — it deserves a bigger audience.

Okay, I couldn't understand who the client was. Who gets the money? I realize the law firm gets a huge cut but who gets the rest?

I know! This was close to being as good as Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul and would appeal to the same audience. Yet I've been struggling to even find recaps!

I thought the main victim was the attorneys’s daughter who got addicted and died.  It would be her estate.  Or was it a class action?  I need to rewatch it.  Sometimes, I actually enjoy watching when I already know the ending.
