Total randomness:  My favorite music/musicians are The Grateful Dead, Paul Simon, Jack Johnson.  Just chill, mellow singer songwriter type stuff for the most part.  And jam bands.

Anyway, this show has introduced me to some music I would seriously NEVER ever hear.  And these are now some of my favorite songs:  Meghan Trainor/NO.  LOVE! I sing it to my cat at least once a day.  You're welcome, Kendall :).  Jason Derulo/Get Ugly.  LOVE!  And my new favorite that I never bothered to look up until the other day:  Nonono/Pumping Blood:

This is your heart it's alive
It's pumping blood
And it's your heart it's alive
It's pumping blood
And the whole wide world is whistling
And it's whistling

That's all friends.  Just thought I'd share :).

My friend and her family are going on a Disney trip with me in October and she booked her trip through her friend who works for ESPN and gets a discount. Her friend booked the same hotel but the upgraded princess rooms and I can't afford those which sucks because i don't think we'll be in the same building.

ugh that sucks!  can they get you in the same hotel as well?

I'm in the same hotel, just not the same room type. I could always hope for the best upon check in if I tell them the situation. At the moment, I don't have money to pay for the fancy hotel room to be able to be near them lol

Even more randomness.  Do you guys go to Trader Joes?  LOVE LOVE LOVE

Everybody who knows me knows when I say "I went to hell today" it means I went to Trader Joes.  I pass one on my way home from work so on the very VERY rare occasion I'll stop to get something, but I absolutely despise that store.  Every location I've ever been to, I've found the workers exceptionally rude & I don't care for how the store is arranged.  The one thing of theirs that I did like was their horseradish/cheddar potato chips, and they've been discontinued.

Guys - a friend of my mine is starting a kickstarter campaign.  He's a good guy and looking to help fund his invention.  Check it out, share, write a nice comment ... I'm all about supporting entrepreneur efforts.  Anyways hope this is appropriate for this forum and I won't repost in case it's not but check it out -

aikes!  that's obnoxious they're so rude!  What about two buck chuck?

do tell ... what do you do with it?

A more appropriate question would be what don't I do with it? Put it on bread, pancakes, fruit (lol healthy), incorporate it into baked goods, eat it with a spoon, spread it on my entire body...wait, what? Forget that last one. Really though, it's uh-maze-ing.

I'm in PA, we just started getting wine in grocery stores so I don't know if they're carrying it yet.

GAH!! You can have REAL pretzels any time you want! Real Pennsylvania soft pretzels! I'm so jealous! I break down and mail order them every now and then , but postage costs a fortune.

Guys ... I'm just not loving my lunch today.  Dunno what it is but everything I bring from home, I just don't love

I eat black bean & corn salad on top of field greens and arugula pretty much every day.  I never like lunch I bring either, but I actually do like this. (I typically skip the avocado and add 4 jalapenos, seeds and all).

wow!  you're healthy!  I'm impressed that's all you eat and you get full?  I think it's a mental thing but for some weird reason, I feel like I need to add meat and candy to everything to make it a "meal" lol.  thanks for recipe!  looks yummy!

Don't give me too much credit, I've had plenty of days where my lunch was Cheez-Its and Hershey Kisses :)  You'd really be surprised at how filling that bean salad is.  The one thing that is keeping me on track is myfitnesspal.com.  You can upload or enter an entire recipe & enter how many servings it makes, and it will calculate the calories for you.  They also have a food diary where you enter what you ate and it gives you calories, and gives you a final tally every day. It's really amazing how those calories add up!  What I've seen is that on a daily basis I really don't have enough calories left over for the daily glass of wine I've been having!

Regarding Trader Joe’s: try the white meat chicken salad (it’s amazing), the frozen Hatch Chile mac & cheese, frozen pork shu mai that you steam and serve with a Ponzu sauce (so much better than soy sauce) and last, frozen mini churros that you heat in the oven (they come with cinnamon sugar to top with after heated).  There are some great dishes, just gotta search.

Random but how do you guys define an "intellect"?  And if someone said you were an "un-intellect" and that you loathed topics that were intellectual and cultured, would you consider that an insult?

People have been using the "uneducated, not intelligent" argument for things related to politics lately so I probably wouldn't take it to heart unless it was a friend calling me dumb and not in a playful way.

Thanks ... I find it so insulting and elitist.  Sorry, my parents were figuring out how to pay the bills and put food in our mouths and didn't have the language skills or time to teach us French literature and take us to artsy fartsy movies.  I dunno - is that what makes an intellect?  And is intellectual different from smart?  I have friends who tout themselves as high intellectuals but in honesty, I truly think they're slow (or at least not quick in grasping ideas or connecting the dots).  I'm just confused as to what makes a person intellectual?

I think intellect is different than smart. You can be book smart or street smart, I'm the former. I only have an associates degree so I can't be considered as educated as the rest of them. I'm not sure what makes someone intellectual though, I guess that's a good question.

I guess I would define it as having a curiosity and willingness to pursue ideas outside of your own sphere. I wouldn't judge someone for not reading French literature, but if you tell me you haven't read a book in years that would lead to me make certain conclusions about your intellect.

ah got it.  this person was judging me because I don't talk politics with her nor do I talk about or want to see her type of movies (French movies or broadway shows etc.).  I personally don't think that is any sign of "intellect" or me lacking culture.  I didn't grow up with that so it's not what I want to do in my free time.  I have however read the classics in original Latin (back in high school but still).  I don't talk politics because it just leads to fight (plus I find she has nothing intellectual to say lol).

I dunno ... I just found it really insulting for her to say I'm unintelligent and I'm curious as to how that's even defined.

Just curious, is this person a friend? I don't want to offend, but if someone felt the need to point out that I'm not an intellectual, friend or not, I'd probably give them a good up yours and walk away. What a jerk.

Your friend should, if she's not already here, come to the DMV. She can talk politics all day.  But I agree with Oranaiche not the type of friend I need.  I don't get into French films either.  It takes differences to make the world go round.  Sounds to me like you know yourself, what you like and are happy with you.  Someone who feels the need to put you down for that souvnds like someone not comfortable in themself and use this "intellectual persona" to make herself feel superior.  I've seen it all too often.

It's terribly insulting, and you probably don't need that person in your life.

And I should also add that if someone told me they haven't read a book in 20 years I wouldn't call them an intellectual, that also doesn't mean that they're a bad person or there's something wrong with them. I know plenty of people who aren't what I would call smart but they work hard and do what they can with what they have and are good people.

So I'm gonna weigh in here.

I'd consider myself intelligent (I'm 22 and about to finish my masters and start studying for a PhD) but I find that people that describe themselves as "intellectual" are almost ALWAYS pompous, snooty, stuck up and frankly not great people to hang about with. Id rather take a toothless hillbilly that can't read, and cares enough about my well being to NOT call me unintellectual, over the arrogant snob that's gonna pretend to be my friend and then knock me down like that.

wow super impressive and congratulations!  what are you studying?  and do you watch French films - otherwise you're not an intellect.  :)  Just kidding.  That's amazing though - kudos to your academic achievements at such a young age!

There are two types of people that are too repulsive and stupid for me to deal with:

1) People who say "I seen". Like, "I seen yer dog chained outside yer trailer"

People who say "I seen" and "mines" (e.g. "Mines looks like that") drive me batty. Also I have a coworker who says "alls you have to do," all the time, and while I know it's more of a dialectal thing versus just plain bad grammar, I HAAAATE IT.

...anyway.
