Trini July 27, 2023 Share July 27, 2023 Yeeaahhh -- the memes are funny, but I'm over the two films being linked in every other mention. But this might go on through awards season.... 2 Link to comment
proserpina65 July 31, 2023 Share July 31, 2023 I have no interest in the Barbie movie at all, but I am amused by the thought of Tom Cruise's latest overblown action mess getting its ass kicked at the box office by it. 3 1 Link to comment

Well Barbie is bigger financially but Oppy is doing damn good for a 3 hour drama. I like the new Indiana Jones but looking at it from the perspective of someone who didn't grow up watching the Indy movies it's an action movie starring an 80 year old man. That's more ridiculous than a movie about a doll. Even if it was amazing I don't see gen Zers clamoring paying ticket prices to see it. Edited August 2, 2023 by Fool to cry Link to comment
Trini August 6, 2023 Share August 6, 2023 Some commentary on the records broken at Variety: '‘Barbie’ Surpasses $1 Billion Globally After 17 Days of Release ' Quote Greta Gerwig’s pink-coated fantasy comedy has surpassed $1 billion at the global box office, including $459 million in North America and $572 million internationally. This makes Gerwig the first-ever solo female filmmaker with a billion-dollar film. Three other billion-dollar blockbusters were co-directed by women, including “Frozen” ($1.3 billion) and “Frozen 2” ($1.45 billion) both co-directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, as well as “Captain Marvel” ($1.1 billion), co-directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. “Barbie” is hitting the coveted milestone after just 17 days of release, becoming the fastest Warner Bros. release (and eighth in the studio’s 100-year history) to join the $1 billion club. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” previously held that record at 19 days. It’s only the second blockbuster this year and the sixth of the pandemic-era to cross $1 billion, following “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Jurassic World Dominion” and “Avatar: The Way of Water.” 3 1 Link to comment

Trini September 3, 2023 Share September 3, 2023 Barbie officially the #1 movie of the year: https://variety.com/2023/film/box-office/barbie-highest-grossing-worldwide-movie-year-1235705510/ Quote Greta Gerwig’s fantasy-comedy has generated $1.36 billion at the global box office, overtaking Universal and Illumination’s animated adventure “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” ($1.35 billion globally) as the highest-grossing worldwide movie of the year. “Barbie” has accumulated $600 million in North America and, earlier in August, passed “Mario” ($574 million) to become the biggest release of 2023 at the domestic box office as well. At the international box office, the film has grossed a staggering $760 million to date. The very pink blockbuster has been casually crushing expectations since opening in theaters in July with $162 million, the best debut of the year. “Barbie” remained the No. 1 movie for four consecutive weekends and eventually became the highest-grossing movie directed solely by a woman. It’s currently the 14th-biggest domestic release and 15th-biggest global release in history. -- Again, I'm just hoping we get more movies by and for women. 6 Link to comment
