Morning Joe: All Episodes Talk

I tuned in for the 8:00 half hour.  First - a shallow observation: Meeka is either letting her hair go gray or is soaking her head in peroxide.  I cannot tell which.

Claire McCaskill. I always like what she adds to MJ. This morning? First - Joe was doing his "when I was running" and Claire was praising the populist rallies that Dems are doing. Then. I think she said she was against Dems in the Senate removing Schumer from his leadership position. I think.

I was surprised. Because that is kind of what attendees to these rallies and so many Dem voters seem want. They are mad at business as usual, perceived weakness of Dems in power. Claire and Joe? Same as it ever was.

I still record the show on my DVR, but I only watched a few minutes today. Joe supported AOC and Senator Sanders' campaign against Oligarchs in Arizona and Colorado.

I watch CNBC & Canadian news now since Canada has a federal election on April 28.

The top issue in Canada now is how to deal with President Trump's tariffs & proposal to make Canada the 51st state.

I wonder if this will be covered on Morning Joe.

Canadians are very anxious about the USA these days. Travel to the USA is discouraged. People refuse to buy US-made goods at Grocery stores, etc.

I think she got it re highlighted or whatever for the Kiss Mika's Ass party in Abu Dhabi. (I've decided KYV is really KMA, because that's all it's good for, get a bunch of women together to kiss Mika's ass.)

On her IG page you can tell she had it done. It was definitely much lighter.

Mika turning into Joe by claiming "I'm hearing from people who have family in the military who are FREAKED OUT!!!!!".

Sure Mika. Whatever.  Why would people call you about this?

I will say watching the coverage on MSNBC, including MJ, has been a hoot as they tear apart Trump's NSC doing group chats about war plans.

IDK, maybe call all parties in to a SCIF on site? Don't they all live in DC? Why are we doing this on phones, encripted or otherwise?  Let alone a public messaging app.  What if you miss one reply that says "POTUS calling off attack! Stand down!!"

And Hegseth using emogees. Nothing says military genius like not realizing who you're texting AND using  emogees like a 12 year old girl excited she got Taylor Swift tix. He thought he sounded so cool saying "OpSec".

Yeah, except there wasn't much Operational Security was there?

I wish they'd get Pete Buttigieg on. He's been on fire on IG.

I must have missed something. I was looking forward to hearing from Jeffrey Goldberg this morning. What I saw was the numerous Talking Heads discussing it; with Goldberg included. Please tell me that he was on, by himself, during some other segment. The Brady Bunch screen with the talking heads? Begone. At least in this case. But. I can only imagine the histrionics of Meeka; and Joe trying to bring his When I was in Congress tired schtick.

And MSNBC? It seems almost criminal for Joe to be a drop-in host on his own show.  With the salary he is taking in. I promise this is the last time I will bring this up.

Goldberg was on in the 7 am hour. Joe, Willie and Lemire interviewed him. I had seen him on Jen Psaki's show on Monday night, and then Rachel and Jonathan Capehart kept the story going with various guests.

The hearings today were lit, as Jonathan predicted.  No one would admit the texts had classified information, so Sen Warner kept asking to see them. I've heard Goldberg is going to release them, since he's being called a liar by the Administration. If they aren't classified, then show them.

I'm surprised their contract allows so many days off.  The powers at MSNBC need to require them both to be there at least 4 days a week and do at least a certain amount of time per show. It seems like the two divide it up too much now as to who's going to be the "unlucky person to do it today!" And then maybe 1 or 2 days a week they both appear.

Gotta say this morning is off the hook.

They got Goldberg back on as he published the texts. Lemire was reading them as they describe in real time the attack on the Houthi camp. It is insane. It has what planes are being used, if they hit targets, etc.

Here's the kicker: Signal can't be downloaded on most gov't phones. Witkoff WAS IN MOSCOW during this text.  US gov't officials aren't supposed to use any communication devices while in Moscow. Period.  Even encripted gov't devices can be compromised.

I don't know why Chris Matthews and Tina Brown are necessary to the convo, but they're on set.  They had Sen Warner on, and now Hakeem Jeffries is on. He's called  for Hegseth to be fired.

The other interesting piece is the coverage of the SSA head confirmation hearing.  Warren and other Dems are hammering him on getting the staffing back up at SSA as the web site is crashing, and the phone lines are jammed. Warren said the promise to the American workers is that the gov't get them their benefits, and that can't happen if the staff isn't there.  They're going to, for lack of a better term, FAFO.  They think the town halls are bad now? Wait til this SSA stuff really starts affecting people.

Agreed.  wanted to see what people were saying here where there's been so much show hate lately.  Totally worthwhile episode and great coup to get Goldberg and Warner as well.

Kemper I think it's like all cable news, when nothing significant is going on, it's boring AF .

This has shown that they actually can run a good show, get the guest they  need to explain and put things in context.

I had one thought while watching all of this unfold: What a bunch of nincompoops. And for once I'm not talking about JoMika.

Don't worry about "show hate". I've been on The Baldwins reality show Reddit forum. They make us look like a bunch of nuns.

I hope I have not been projecting "show hate" ... though I guess it might seem like that lately. It is mainly frustration. And remembering how relevant and entertaining Show used to be. Not to say it stll can't have great days - like today.

I will never forget when Joe said Abraham Lincoln never tweeted during the Civil War.

I saw on Mediate (I think it was Mediate) where Meeka had to put her hand on Joe's arm or some such when he suggested Bill Burr host the Correspondent's Dinner. Now that suggestion is one I would love to see in action. If it were on pay-per-view....I would pay.

Did she realize Joe was kidding?  And what was she so concerned about?

I do think the WHCA dinner has gotten out of control with the celebrities in attendance and the focus on a stand up comic skewering politicians, etc.
The dinner is to celebrate journalism and award scholarships, not to see which comedian is going to start losing gigs for stating the truth.

Great article on Mediaite, showcasing the new Biden book, and JoMika's clueless response to it.

Like, Jonathan is explaining how the "media", aka JoMika for one, covered up the problems with Biden, saying he was fine and strong and brilliant. When in 2023, the Administration was putting plans into place to replace him in the 2024 race, keep him from the press, etc.

They were sitting there nodding like, "I know, can you believe this shit?", when they were part of the problem. (as usual)

https://www.mediaite.com/opinion/joe-scarborough-and-mika-brzezinski-nod-along-as-reporters-deliver-stunning-indictment-of-their-biden-coverage

I sent this article to my sister last night, and her response to the photo included in it was "why does Mika always look like she just woke up from a drunken stupor".

I'm very proud of her, usually she's much nicer than me. Game recognize game.

The producer was right about one thing. No one gives a shit about Joe and Mika running their mouths without engaging their brains.

Problem is, somebody should.  The two of them lie and make up shit to look like they're in the know.

Was the problem fixed? Did Mika apologize for saying that President Obama encouraged George Clooney to write an op ed saying Biden should step down from the 2024 campaign?  When she had no idea what she was talking about?

Remember Meeka hysterically leading the charge (in her "cry voice") every morning, on how mentally sound Biden was. Joe was defending his woman. So if Joe gets bashed, Meeka should take her share.

And yes, ebk57, you are So Right.  Gutfield is a disgrace of a human being and should be sued by the entire country for just putting his face in front of a camera.

I just watched Fri's show for 15 minutes on the Peacock app. First, the banner showed Dow futures down around 1120, and Joe is ignoring that, saying some stocks are green, and basically that mkts aren't so bad this morning. Willie very gently corrects him. (Soon China announces retaliation and the markets fall further.)

After that, it is amazing Joe/Lemire spent 5 minutes talking about how Trump is doing exactly as promised, that he has advocated tariffs for decades, apparently that he has the courage of his convictions. That people should have expected this. Except for when Lemire finally pipes in that the problem was all about *implementation*.

They argue to believe Trump when he says these are real and not for negotiation. Then they show a clip of Trump saying there could be negotiation. These folks are all messed up.

Then Rattner eventually chimes in that no one was expecting the stupid way this was done. That's why the mkts went down so steeply.

So, will Joe/Mika stop with their thing that Trump is just an honest, courageous broker on tariffs and the people/markets are stupid? Doubtful. Seems to me like there is still a fear of Trump permeating Mika/Joe/Lemire, probably going back to the Mar a Lago visit.

Joe is right in one respect. Trump said he would invoke tariffs, and he did.  Anyone who didn't believe him and voted for him is delusional. How many times do you touch a hot stove?

What is happening in the US right now is Putin's wet dream. Trump and Musk are destroying America.

Now, for Joe to be so blase about what has just happened to the US economy, the stock market, and people's 401K's and retirement accounts shows what an out of touch buffoon he is.

Of course the tariffs are idiotic. Trump has no idea what the fuck he's doing. He thinks he's more powerful than China and the EU.  And China and the EU just told him "Fuck around and find out".

He has destroyed farming, the auto industry, housing, the stock market, and any sense of security people had about the economy.

God help us.

Joe lives in his bubble that celebrates his imagined glory days in Congress. He simply cannot face the reality of what he and his cohorts wrought.  Always keeping the core value of Trickle Down Economics that features tax cuts for the wealthy. That has never worked - except for the millionaire class. At his base? He is the same as he ever was.

Everyone knew Trump would bring tariffs. He campaigned on it. That's pretty much a given and to focus on that for 5 minutes is a distortion. It's a thing with the show to harp on that always. (And it's the MAGA line, which MAGA uses to justify it.) Mika's comments have indicated a clear purpose for this emphasis ... to say the show was always right and anyone who didn't expect all this (economists, the markets) is wrong. By doing so, she's basically fighting for the MAGA line.

BUT, the issue now is the way he's recklessly implementing them. No one reasonably expected that.

He campaigned on tariffs in 2016 and made mistakes but kept things relatively stable. He paid attention to the stock market. Quite different from now. The big story now is that no one could have predicted he's totally disregarding the markets and implementing them in a way most economists and the markets are saying is totally stupid.

It amazes me how most political media, including some on Fox, are screaming about how these tariffs, as well as the DOGE cuts, are going to put the US into a recession and maybe even a depression,  and Joe is basically denying the facts in front of him.

And if you think Joe is bad, go check Mika's IG. She is celebrating herself starting KYV with a video of her in Abu Dhabi, Paris, KYV/Forbes, and getting her hair and make up done.  How women are loving that she told them to go after what they want.

Gosh if Mika hadn't told me to do this, I'd be living in a van down by the river.

And if Joe says everything is fine, I believe him. He's ALWAYS right.

It's like if you watch MJ, and then any other show on MSNBC, you wonder "which one of these doesn't belong here".

We expect Trump to fiddle while Rome burns,  and tbh, did we really ever expect JoMika to be anything but a couple of oblivious jackasses who only care about enriching themselves while the country suffers.

Noticed on Mediaite this morning Joe has changed his tune and is now furious about the tariffs and at uber wealthy for discounting the effect of the tariffs on the country.

He interviewed Tom Hardy and Paddy Considine for their new series "Mobland". I've watched both episodes and it's a great show. Classic Guy Ritchie, so be ready for violence, insane car chases, and plot twists.

Did they cover The Marches this weekend? I imagine Meeka would have found a way to spin them into KYV.

I'm just watching the 9 am hour. The tariffs and stock market are the topics.

The marches this weekend weren't just women so I'm sure Mika isn't interested in them. They were about DOGE, Social Security, and pretty much every thing else Trump has done.

As far as Joe changing his mind on the tariffs, they must have looked at their stock portfolio over the weekend and realized how much wealth they had lost.  Heileman is stating what I had read earlier that Republicans and Dems alike are cosigning a bill for Congress to retake power of tariffs from the Executive branch.  Giving Trump this power is like handing an arsonist a can of gasoline and matches and telling them to go nuts. Everyone knew Trump had no understanding of what tariffs are, and that the money doesn't go to the government. The companies importing and exporting pay them.

Kinda wish we had the same system as England at this point. When people start throwing a fit over the PM and their actions, and Parliament realizes what a shit show it's become, they do a vote of no confidence and run a new election.

Lemire just said this is the worst Monday for the stock market since October 1987.  We are so fucked.

IMO, all news media brushed off the protests while they were happening, and merely paid lip service in the days after.

Has anyone seen the new MJ promo on MSNBC?  The parade drumbeat in the background, like Mika and Joe are about to say something momentous?  🙄  It's all Stern Joe, Angry Mika, Concerned Lemire.  Personally, I was disappointed they didn't show Mika arranging her purse.

Mika arranging her purse on the set during the show was a classic Morning Joe moment. I also remember her somehow getting Joe's wallet & taking one of his credit cards out of it, and saying she would use it to buy something. Joe was still married to Susan at the time. I am sure that Susan was impressed by Mika knowing her Value.

I have seen the new ad. And Mika has it on her IG, of course. Whatever.  I think Joe had a hand in getting this produced and on the air, because it states that MJ is the show where American Leaders start their day.  Of course it doesn't say who these leaders are, or what they're leading.

I think local media covered the protests this weekend more than national, for some reason. Too cowardly? Rachel covered them, and the movement's IG page says she's the only national media to have any coverage. She had like 20 squares on the screen with images of the various cities and the rallies.

I just looked online and the only national publications li I search 50501 protest April 5, are Newsweek and Rolling Stone and USA Today. All my local tv stations covered it.

There is another protest scheduled for April 19.

Joe claimed that President Biden and Trump both watched Morning Joe. Apparently, Biden asked staffers to watch the show to get Scarborough's takes on politics, etc. Biden would then call Joe for advice.

During Trump's first term, he would tweet at Mika & Joe when he disagreed with them.

Joe doesn't tweet much anymore since Trump was elected & Trump hasn't bothered to attack Joe.

It's a non-aggression pact.

If this isn't proof Biden's mental situation was not up to par, I don't know what is.

Reporter to WH staff:  "When did you realize President Biden may be suffering from early onset dementia, or just as he has aged, may not be as aware of what is going on?"

Staff: "Well our first clue was when he kept telling everyone Joe Scarborough was brilliant, and as some of us had seen the show, we did realize right then something was terribly wrong with the President".

I can't remember where I saw this story - possibly Mediate.  ApparentlMJ is doing okay in the ratings - it is beating CNN.  This is why they will probably never be fired or asked to take a pay cut.

The media did the country a huge disservice by the lack of coverage for the Hands Off Protests. My Facebook feed is full of pictures and videos.

Lastly, re Meeka's purse cleanings. Those were the days  of the Slap and Tickle - when the show was in its prime. Meeka had the short skirts and stilettos. Viewers wondered if there was something going on. Joe was not quite so full of himself.

I happened to have the show on this morning while washing the dishes (seemed appropriate to hear news about the country going down the drain even as the dish soap was doing the same).

I was not disappointed.  Rather than raise anything resembling an objection to Trump's eagerness to deport immigrants, Joe criticized the administration for not making it easier and more appealing for people to self-deport, because self-deporting could really help Trump get those disappointing deportation numbers up.

I shit you not.

Oh, and Joe also mentioned how the Trump administration has alleged that wrongly deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a member of that vicious gang -- wait for it -- "MS-16."

("Curb Your Enthusiasm" theme plays out)
