I'm catching up a bit on some parts i missed this week and a lot of the women are saying their most important takeaway was Gloria Steinem saying laughter is important, and it's important to take joy in your work

i'm almost a bit sad they all had to travel half way around the world to learn that, it's like the end of the Alchemist where he ends up under the Sycamore tree in Spain. wait is that a spoiler? anyhoo it's an overrated book, but you know what I mean. 

still hopefully they all found some of that joy and life spark connecting with each other, at least that's a positive thing

still catching up, and I know I'm in the minority, but I like that Joe was there, at least as far as MJ is concerned.

mainly bc I hate when they are all in different locations, it messes up the vibe and makes everything boring and fragmented and you go, no you go, no you go, oops the audio dropped. so at least Joe and Mika were in the same place! I wish Willie could've gone there too!

also it's healthy for Joe to be the plus one occasionally. he genuinely looked so proud of her, it was cute, good for him

also here for the Abu Dhabi backdrop, I wish they would make the studio trees green soooooon its 10 March now already.

i swear to god they make that winter DC foliage look graphically more ominous than it is in real life 🥴

Joe looking so proud of her. Again, could he just for once let her have this. Does he have to loom over everything. Him being so publicly present just reminds everyone how she got to where she presently is. He could still attend and do his MJ job remotely (like always) during breaks in the conference. It is kind of a disrespect (not on purpose) to the women there who have achieved despite the odds.

Lol Kemper, I didn’t realize my pun. Cute!  I got the name Minka from someone getting Mika’s name wrong and calling her Minka!  
 

The most depressing thing of this whole thing is that tweet from Lauren Leader that Neona2 posted. “It’s on TV for free.”  I was shocked, monetarily steaming mad at how wrong that statement is on so many levels…now I’m just like…. Wow.  Forbes is the definition of elite right, and do I need to say tvs and devices are not free…cable is not free….time is not always available because you might be working nose to the grindstone at your real job, far away from Abu Dhabi. I truly will never respect that Lauren Leader ever again.

I’ve heard her name on Morning Joe as a guest but don’t know what she does and now am totally uninterested! I mean….$$ can take you to Abu Dhabi but can’t buy class…this wasn’t even difficult.  She didn’t need to reply to this person.  Her snippy obtuse comment was much worse.  KYV members should strive to be more benevolent…. also i was snarking on Lauren Leader's not very good twitter skills and over the top website, but in fairness to her, she was on Tuesday with some really interesting statistics and made a lot of clear and salient points on abortion, etc. that is of course the main thing, making an interesting contribution. ymmv

today Mika was there from 6 a.m. to 7.30, and then totally disappeared. Joe did the last three hours of himself by himself, with no explanation what happened to poor Mika. it's all genuinely confusing, why would anyone take on an extra hour that no one really wants 😂 #theplotthickens

they did air an interview w Mrs Zelenska & Hillary though which was truly excellent. They all showed up prepared and sympathetic and it was genuinely, genuinely good.

for me the saddest thing was when when she said the women of ukraine are subjected to "creative cruelty". Ugh ugh ugh. War is hell. 😭 seriously just give these people what they need

Joe abruptly showed up to criticize Trump for losing elections from 2017----2022.

Mika was Awol.

Joe criticized Ron DeSantis for throwing a baseball at someone from Fox News. Joe shouted whee. He used to complain about President Obama throwing baseballs.

The show seems really off its game this morning.   I was hoping for reaction to the news that broke in the Atlanta Constitution Journal regarding comments by the Grand Jury members looking into election interference.   So far not a word.   Instead, we get the Mika infomercial and now some bloke from Manchester, England, yukking it up.   Time to switch off.

I haven't watched a lot from this week except for a few mins here and there but man the vibe is so different from the vibrancy of last weeks.

I can't put my finger on it, it's like the darkness and lethargy and reptetiveness took over again this week. i mean obviously there are lots of different opinons about the Abu Dhabi thing but man i just miss the liiiight of that beach in the background and the general sense of optimism and possible progress

btw, bc of mostly insane working hours this week I've been watching a lot of Steph and her show is soooo good rn.

She's really explained the banking shitshow so well and brought in like actual real human panelists to discuss it freely. also she actually did a serious segment on the abortion pill issue with legal experts and actual women, Joe and Mika basically just did a 3 min segment from a reporter and then said "wow. anyhoo, let's move on". wait WHAT? 🥴 I'm totally okay with most of the knowing your value stuff but but but you also gotta cover stuff like this maybe that's gonna f-up a shitload of women's future?

How come on every other show on MSNBC they respectfully call Stormy Daniels an "adult film actress" but on morning joe they are always like "porn star this" "porn star that". i don't understand the lack of humanity towards people who have made slightly different choices, it's so condescending.

Probably she gets a ton of shit and threats and stuff for going public and standing up for herself, she deserves some kindness and respect.

I feel like it's important to remember that the "art world" is a bit like the "media".

and saying "everybody cheats" is a bit like saying "everyone lies" 

there are parts of the media who lie for a living without scruples and there are parts of the media who consider the truth their vocation.

This dynamic is at play in literally every aspect of humanity. so no, no one with a shred of integrity is welcoming this asshole back. It's important to report these things with nuance and respect. ymmv

they did a segment on how harmful youtube and tiktok is and Joe and Mika were very mad that Instagram wasn't included in terms of f-ing up people's s lives. 

---> I actually agree with this, for teens for sure, but there's also a massive blindspot and total lack of honesty in terms of how the zoom shitshow is gonna mess up people's actual human development in college and early professional life .

it honestly makes me so mad.

kids, by which I mean actual children from age 5, put *years* of their human development on hold in incredibly traumatizing ways, with the vague belief that they were doing it to protect their elders. 

And the only implied benefit, the implied social contract, of that was the implied promise of a return to f-ing *normalcy*. 

now their schooling is forever hybrid, awkward, impersonal.

Because the people for whom they sacrificied normalcy find it much easier to float further along in the lives they constructed while everything was fine.

Their college experience will be, you know, freakin expensive, but also lonely, isolated, off-campus, with dropping wifi, shoddy video and days upon days without even getting dressed. 

A life-draining, socially stunted shitshow, run by professors who, by the way, met and married on campus, in real life human classes.

i am only saying this because so many of these discussions are held by people who don't think they are accountable in any way in constructing this new dystopia, while they're actually one of the main culprits.

For sure there is a lot of blame to go around to Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok etc ---> but the reason kids have a shitton of time to spend on these apps is that an entire generation have decided to stop showing up for them in person.

and to leave them alone for a lot more time than is actually healthy

i'm sorry probably I'm a bit cranky today, but that's just the truth *grumble*
