I saw an article quoting Joe that he'd like to get the show back to what it was before Trump, when they had a variety of guests from news, politics, entertainment,  authors, etc. He wants to get away from the format of the show currently.

https://www.tvinsider.com/1173293/joe-scarborough-msnbc-changes-morning-joe/

TBH, so would I. He and Mika are both on live at 9 am this morning. Guess cancelling Joy Reid's show was the FAFO moment the new President of MSNBC was hoping for.  Everybody get your shit together or there's the door.

Changing the format is the right idea. They also need to get away from the regular guests. The first hour had the two boring Brits and a regular predictable, boring foreign policy guy. The 3rd hour had another boring Brit, hyping Rahm Emmanuel, of all people, as a role model for Dems. Rahm left the Chicago Mayor position with approval in the low 20s, for Pete's sake. Why do the evening shows always seem to have more relevant, interesting guests? Maybe it's difficult to bring in such folks in the early hours? Bring in (non-MAGA) people with different perspectives, like they used to bring in those Commentary guys. Matt Welch from Reason was on occasionally.

Yes, and maaaaybe bringing Chris Matthews back is not the best idea. Apparently, no one including Joe and Mika remembers why Matthews was outsted from MSNBC in the first place. UGGGH.

I am sorry, but I don't want to see Joe (and Meeka) on any MSNBC show. He is an egomaniacal blowhard.  If he gets his wish (why can't the network seem to quit him) on having an entertainment show he will still find ways to make it all about him. Back when he had a high school band, back when he played guitar at campus bars, back when he led the Young Republicans in college. (I made all of that up - but you get the gist) He is exhausting. Then there is Meeka's KYV schtik, her poor little too-educated -to know-who celebrities are schtick. They are both past their MSNBC sell-by date. I guess I am just disappointed in hearing news of who is staying and who is going at the network.

Yeah, their work from home gig started years ago. I was wondering if shutting down a support center type place for them would force them out. Time will tell.

Didn't they start off working from home during the pandemic (like most broadcasters) and then just stuck with it, or did they have this arrangement before? Aren't they only actually in the studio once a week?

I am trying to remember..but I think they started working from home before Covid. Was it when they moved from New York to Florida? Gotta go where taxes are low.

I am almost certain you are correct. We got quite a lot of mileage out of the "breakfast nook" situation before it became common with the onset of Covid.

And Mika's bathrobe.  At least working from home she didn't have to go thru her purse to find a Valium. And she could stash the vodka under her desk instead of using one of those little airplane bottles.

Yes, they did move to Florida before COVID-19. The official reason was that Joe wanted to be closer to his dementia-stricken mother, and Mika's mom needed to be in a warmer climate to use her chainsaw.

However, before the move, Joe was very critical of the high taxes in Connecticut. Joe invited the Governor on the show & warned him that the state would lose businesses and high-profile cable news broadcasters unless taxes were cut.

The Governor did not listen to Joe & his home was sold for a loss.

I cannot believe Mika is holding that idiotic KYV summit in Abu Dhabi again. Tone deaf much??

How in God's name did they rope Sheryl Lee Ralph into this shit show.  Girlfriend you do not need to associate yourself with this nonsense.

They do volunteer work at schools in Abu Dhabi. How about doing something at schools in the US.

I notice Mika doesn't mention the location of the "summit" on air.  Please join me and all my rich minions in the country that doesn't allow civil rights, worker's rights, etc.

They opened with a clip of Musk at the cabinet meeting saying they restored the ebola funding. Last night's prime shows were all over the fact that this was a lie. So, after the clip does Mika state that this was Musk lying? No. She says something like "this was a scene from a cabinet meeting yesterday". I didn't watch the whole show, and maybe someone addressed it later, but the old show would have pointed it out as a lie right off the bat.

Later edit: At the 22 minute mark they discuss the falsehood.

6 am is too early for Mika to be paying attention to what the staff gives her as far as Musk and his Ebola funding nightmare. She's barely awake.

Seems a lot of the anger at MSNBC may be stemming from MJ still around 650,000 viewers as of the last ratings report, where they were over a million before the election.

So if it's ratings that are the cause of the firings, why are JoMika safe?  Maybe because they kissed the ring and Comcast is protecting them?

Either way, it explains why Mika and Joe can do such a sloppy job, piss off viewers, and keep their jobs.

I switched on this morning, just to hear the reaction to Friday's events.   Prior to the Mar-A-Lago pilgrimage, Scarborough would have gone full "flame-on" after something like that press conference.   Today, disapproval is expressed with sober faces and somber tones.  He said there were several things about the Oval Office meeting that were "questionable."   He asked a guest if Trump's brusque treatment of Zelensky was a part of Trump's process?  "Is this the art of the deal?"

That was enough for me.

I saw the ratings, somewhere, of shows on the network that have been "cancelled"....MJs ratings have taken a plunge. Are they going to be able to work their part-time hours with the money they are hauling in? I don't like the words "cancel culture" ...;but no one, no other show, should be cancelled before MJ. He and his wife have become an embarrassment.

There are reports that MSNBC will not subsidize any costs associated with any potential lawsuits filed by Trump against Mika & Joe or the network in case Mika & Joe start flaming Trump again with their traditional insults. ABC had to pay Trump's Presidential Library $15M for Stephanopoulos calling Trump a rapist. Trump is suing CBS 60 Minutes for editing the Kamala Harris interview before the election. Shari Redstone, owner of CBS, wants to settle the lawsuit.

Mika & Joe prefer to keep their cushy jobs on the network. I doubt their contract will be renewed at their current salary levels.

I think the show is in it's last legs. Joe's lost some enthusiasm. Mika has said things lately indicating she can't handle politics discussions and wants to avoid them. She looked extremely bothered yesterday and barely said a word. I guess she needed a rest today - she was out. If MSNBC doesn't let them go they might just quit on their own.

I watched a little of the 7:00 hour. Joe went out of his way to point out that the business leaders still like Trump and in general he's just as popular as when he was elected. They love to have British women on, so Tina Brown was on, hyping how great their PM is and what a genius move it was to invite Trump to visit the King. And she went on to hype the monarchy as a great institution. Joe just let everything go unchallenged.

Tina Brown was an original Morning Joe panellist. Katty Kay replaced her.

Mika & Joe should consider retiring. They hit the jackpot by being friends with Trump before he entered politics. They were on The Apprentice as special guests/coaches to help the show. They were on a golf course together.

Joe was receptive to letting Trump come on Morning Joe and mouth off on whatever he wanted to say in the 2016 primaries. They got caught on a hot mic when Trump and Joe told Mika not to ask any tough questions during the Town Hall. After he won the nomination, Mika and Joe started attacking him, etc. It's like the WWF.

Mika and Joe have made at least $100M since Trump became a political candidate. Their kids and grandkids will all benefit from their relationship with him.

I could see MSNBC letting Joe do a few Scarborough presents interviews with celebrities.

Mika could work with Forbes on the Know Your Value summits.

Does anyone think the Mr. and Mrs. would give up such a cushy gig on their own? If MSNBC hasn't shown them the door by now, they probably never will.

Unless Mika & Joe violate the morals clause in their contracts, MSNBC has to pay them until it expires. This could also explain why Joe is reluctant to go on a rant where he says something that could allow the network to fire him for violating the morals clause.

MSNBC can renegotiate their salaries at a lower level or replace them with lower-cost hosts.

Current ratings do not justify $16M per year in compensation.

Mika is broadcasting from Abu Dhabi today as Chair of the Forbes Summit.

Joe was upset that Trump gave a long partisan speech.

Trump's speech was over 90 minutes, almost as long as it takes Joe to let some guests speak on his show.

Mika fact-checked Trump, saying Inflation was high under Biden at 9 %. It was higher after WW1 at 24%.

Mika is learning about Economics. Joe said the US economy was the envy of the world.

Steve Rattner looks pale today.

Joe is worried about tariffs & the stock market.

Meeka today in Abu Dhabi? That is why there was a 30//50 sign in back of her - I had no idea that was where here she was. I thought she might be in a home studio pushing her grift. How tone deaf could she (and the women who "abet" her... be?). Not a good look - I wonder if this grift (because that is exactly what it is) will continue if she and Joe (her meal ticket) are off the show.

I am sorry, I know I continue to bash her and that is really not a good look for me. But don't care. You know, it is kind or like Joe is halfway asleep or taking calm down pills. I almost prefer shouty, obnoxious Joe. This show is a total snooze-fest.

Mika had the opportunity to interview Nermal the Cat while in Abu Dhabi. Garfield mailed Nermal there for the 12,000th time. 😉

I flipped it on this morning and saw...Chris Matthews. Then Meeka smugly standing in front of her grifting sign. The odd thing? Chris Matthews sounding unhinged - but in a kind of not-so-predictably-terrible way. LIke many of us (just my friends?). It is an upside-down day when I would rather listen to Matthews than Joe. Need to sit down with cat and sip some tea. Reflect.

Joe made fun of Mika reporting from the South of France when she was clearly in Abu Dhabi. Mika is much happier reporting From the UAE. She wore a black scarf and top in mourning of the potential tariffs on luxury handbags.

Mika said she hopes France works out a deal to exempt LVMH & Birkin bags from Trump's tariffs.

Mika recommended shopping at the duty-free shop for good deals.

Mika said there are women from 46 countries attending the Summit.

Maggie & Huma are her new besties.

Mika told Joe to clean up the house before she came back to Florida.

Chris Matthews denied that he & Barnicle would get their own show on MSNBC to attract new viewers to MSNBC.

Huma...of course! isn't she going to marry a billionaire or some such? Was married to a scandal-plagued Anthony something - who used to be a Congressman? Just like Joe used to be!  A Congressman.

Mika advised Huma about  dumping Congressman Anthony Weiner who kept posting photos of his genitals to young women. Huma somehow let her husband gain access to Hillary Clinton's emails which prompted an FBI investigation shortly before the 2016 election. It helped Trump win the election in 2016. It amazes me at how stupid some people are  whose actions affect the world.

If Trump had lost the 2016 election , the world would be in a different place.

Anthony Weiner was her ex-husband.

The last time I watched MSNBC Mika was cry-screaming that "he's Hitler," and in reference to women's health, "he wants to kill us."

Yup. Apparently, no one told the Mr. and Mrs. that you can't have it both ways.

I watched for maybe half an hour to see how they're doing things right now. Seems to me that the effect of what they're doing is major gaslighting, intentional or not. Joe chose to distract from the most potent issue in what Musk said in the opening clip. Mika repeated nonsense she always spouts even though she is usually corrected, but now Joe is vigorously defending her. Rattner and Ed Luce at least emphasized the correct things, but then Joe and Mika would just repeat their own focuses.

MSNBC is paying Mika and Joe $16M annually for 67,000 viewers in the key demographic. Lemire makes $750K per year. The last I read, Willie was making $4M per year. This is $238 per viewer for Mika and Joe alone. I bet they could get Kasie Hunt back for $3M per year with fewer viewers.

Morning Joe,” meanwhile, has been losing viewers in the 25-54 demographic. Prior to Nov. 5, the show averaged 123,000 viewers in that age group. Since then, that number has shrunk to just 67,000 viewers, per Nielsen.

Joe's credibility has disappeared since he bragged about President Biden being in the best shape ever in March 2024. Joe claimed that he visited the White House, and Biden beat him running up the stairs to the private residence. After the June 27 debate, Joe called for Biden to step down from the race but flip-flopped for a few weeks while Mika was adamant that Biden could serve for four more years.

I find it hard to believe that Mika & Joe were unaware of President Biden's medical condition.

They have lied to their viewers & sucking up to Trump by going to Mar A Largo after calling him Hitler etc, which makes them look foolish.

The first 20 minutes or so were an idiotic, erroneous self-congratulatory display. Their thinking is so childish and simple minded and wrong. LaMire was a pure yes-man. And they had no guests on to challenge anything. Their argument is basically that "if Trump says something, you better darn well believe it!! He's an honest man and does what he says!!" So we were to believe he'd do tariffs in a reckless way, causing the markets to collapse, even though he prided himself first term on the markets?? And they are right and the stock market and business leaders and repub politicians were all wrong?

So many counter-arguments to them it's ridiculous.

I'm done with these clowns and now think they are just not good for the country. The sooner MSNBC replaces them, the better.

Face it. Joe was never comfortable with his  "Independent" voter status that he bragged about when switching. This is not political on my part...he discussed it every day on his show for quite awhile. It helped the show's ratings.

Meeka still softly trying to touch his arm to keep him from going off the rails. The insulation via his peanut gallery. Until Michael Steele burned it all down. Someone politely but vehemently pushed back. The air went out of MJ. And it has been ever since.
