Discussion of the hosts regarding a specific episode is fine here, but generalized discussion of the hosts go in the The Hosts Thread: Joe and Mika Know Their Value.

I saw an article quoting Joe that he'd like to get the show back to what it was before Trump, when they had a variety of guests from news, politics, entertainment,  authors, etc. He wants to get away from the format of the show currently.

TBH, so would I. He and Mika are both on live at 9 am this morning. Guess cancelling Joy Reid's show was the FAFO moment the new President of MSNBC was hoping for.  Everybody get your shit together or there's the door.

Changing the format is the right idea. They also need to get away from the regular guests. The first hour had the two boring Brits and a regular predictable, boring foreign policy guy. The 3rd hour had another boring Brit, hyping Rahm Emmanuel, of all people, as a role model for Dems. Rahm left the Chicago Mayor position with approval in the low 20s, for Pete's sake. Why do the evening shows always seem to have more relevant, interesting guests? Maybe it's difficult to bring in such folks in the early hours? Bring in (non-MAGA) people with different perspectives, like they used to bring in those Commentary guys. Matt Welch from Reason was on occasionally.

Yes, and maaaaybe bringing Chris Matthews back is not the best idea. Apparently, no one including Joe and Mika remembers why Matthews was outsted from MSNBC in the first place. UGGGH.

I am sorry, but I don't want to see Joe (and Meeka) on any MSNBC show. He is an egomaniacal blowhard.  If he gets his wish (why can't the network seem to quit him) on having an entertainment show he will still find ways to make it all about him. Back when he had a high school band, back when he played guitar at campus bars, back when he led the Young Republicans in college. (I made all of that up - but you get the gist) He is exhausting. Then there is Meeka's KYV schtik, her poor little too-educated -to know-who celebrities are schtick. They are both past their MSNBC sell-by date. I guess I am just disappointed in hearing news of who is staying and who is going at the network.

Yeah, their work from home gig started years ago. I was wondering if shutting down a support center type place for them would force them out. Time will tell.

Didn't they start off working from home during the pandemic (like most broadcasters) and then just stuck with it, or did they have this arrangement before? Aren't they only actually in the studio once a week?

I am trying to remember..but I think they started working from home before Covid. Was it when they moved from New York to Florida? Gotta go where taxes are low.

I am almost certain you are correct. We got quite a lot of mileage out of the "breakfast nook" situation before it became common with the onset of Covid.

And Mika's bathrobe.  At least working from home she didn't have to go thru her purse to find a Valium. And she could stash the vodka under her desk instead of using one of those little airplane bottles.

Yes, they did move to Florida before COVID-19. The official reason was that Joe wanted to be closer to his dementia-stricken mother, and Mika's mom needed to be in a warmer climate to use her chainsaw.

However, before the move, Joe was very critical of the high taxes in Connecticut. Joe invited the Governor on the show & warned him that the state would lose businesses and high-profile cable news broadcasters unless taxes were cut.

The Governor did not listen to Joe & his home was sold for a loss.

I cannot believe Mika is holding that idiotic KYV summit in Abu Dhabi again. Tone deaf much??

How in God's name did they rope Sheryl Lee Ralph into this shit show.  Girlfriend you do not need to associate yourself with this nonsense.

They do volunteer work at schools in Abu Dhabi. How about doing something at schools in the US.

I notice Mika doesn't mention the location of the "summit" on air.  Please join me and all my rich minions in the country that doesn't allow civil rights, worker's rights, etc.

They opened with a clip of Musk at the cabinet meeting saying they restored the ebola funding. Last night's prime shows were all over the fact that this was a lie. So, after the clip does Mika state that this was Musk lying? No. She says something like "this was a scene from a cabinet meeting yesterday". I didn't watch the whole show, and maybe someone addressed it later, but the old show would have pointed it out as a lie right off the bat.

Later edit: At the 22 minute mark they discuss the falsehood.

6 am is too early for Mika to be paying attention to what the staff gives her as far as Musk and his Ebola funding nightmare. She's barely awake.

Seems a lot of the anger at MSNBC may be stemming from MJ still around 650,000 viewers as of the last ratings report, where they were over a million before the election.

So if it's ratings that are the cause of the firings, why are JoMika safe?  Maybe because they kissed the ring and Comcast is protecting them?

Either way, it explains why Mika and Joe can do such a sloppy job, piss off viewers, and keep their jobs.

I switched on this morning, just to hear the reaction to Friday's events.   Prior to the Mar-A-Lago pilgrimage, Scarborough would have gone full "flame-on" after something like that press conference.   Today, disapproval is expressed with sober faces and somber tones.  He said there were several things about the Oval Office meeting that were "questionable."   He asked a guest if Trump's brusque treatment of Zelensky was a part of Trump's process?  "Is this the art of the deal?"

That was enough for me.
