Is it wrong that I don't remember more than half of those people?

For those who don't want to go to the spoiler thread, the Survivor 50 cast has been revealed, and with 3 or maybe 4 exceptions, it's a garbage list.

I think it’s no longer a spoiler since it’s been announced . . . though I figure the two S49 players selected would be considered spoilers, since their names weren’t announced.

Also, I am LONG past the point of caring about casting at this point.

I don't know half of them but I like seeing the old school players come back.  I wish more had been in the mix.

I am shocked that 3 were from this past season though.  But on the up side I still remember them unlike half the others cast.  Though probably I won't remember the Season 48 players at all by the time Season 50 starts to broadcast.  😄

I didn't really "see" the two Season 49 players since I kind of zipped through the list and ignored those I didn't know.  Glad I didn't notice them since that would spoil Season 49 a lot.  Thanks for the warning, Lantern7.  Now I know not to look at the list again.  👍

"In honor of Survivor’s 25th anniversary on May 31, TVLine is spotlighting the most iconic, unforgettable moments from the series that helped redefine reality television. Today, we’re tackling the show’s very first tribe swap in Season 3, but be sure to revisit the jaw-dropping Borneo finale moment where Sue Hawk had a thing or two to say about snakes and rats. And stay tuned to TVLine later this week for more!"

The players from 49 aren't on the EW list I linked to or in a People magazine article that's out. I know they've been identified on some spoiler sites (and they're in the spoiler thread here but, like you, I managed to avoid who they are), but I think all the mainstream sources are not naming them yet.

There has been a lot expressed publicly this week by past Survivors who wanted to be on Season 50 and were cut.  It sounds like the interview / decision process really strung some people along and wasn't handled well by TPTB.  Super hurt feelings.  And no, no one is owed a spot or guaranteed but it sounds like it was really mishandled.  It still boggles me some of the people they chose to include.

Not sure at this point if I’m even going to watch, but I do feel bad for the poor schmucks who signed up for S49; with TPTB putting all their PR efforts into building interest in S50, S49 is already virtually preordained to become the most forgotten-about season by everyone (including Production) in the history of the franchise.

Your point is valid, but based on the current atmosphere of Survivor, it's a decent bet that Season 49 can end up as the most forgotten-about season on its own.  Even without Season 50 to follow up

The bar for pre-big season failure was set by Island of the Idols, which would've been considered a clunker even if they didn't cast Feely Dan. While the "live" Reunions were at least half cringe, it sucks that the last one followed IOTI. In a better world, we would've had something huge after Winners at War, but COVID put a dent in that.

Survivor 48
...
Gameplay impact: I loved this season. I felt the energy of the players from the moment they stepped on the sand, and it never dissipated. I rank it as one of my personal favorites. From a gameplay standpoint, this was a season of powerful pairs: Eva and Joe, who were very public with their loyalty, and Kyle and Kamilla, who were so stealth nobody saw them coming. Shauhin played a very confident strategic game dancing around all of it.

What stood out to me: The moment with Eva and Joe will go down as the single most powerful moment in Survivor history. If you haven’t seen it, even if you’re reading this right now and you don’t even watch Survivor, go find Episode 5 of this season. It’s worth the time.

You know I’d probably love the Joe/Eva moment more if it didn’t feel so manufactured with Probst telling Joe he could go give her a hug, as he probably foamed at the mouth of what would happen.  Can’t say I’m surprised he likes so many new era seasons, considering this is the direction he wants Survivor to go (and ultimately kill the show).  I’m surprised he’d put Ghost Island on here, or Game Changers.  Otherwise his picks are decent.

Rankings of the eight New Era winners:

The bottom one is deserved, but I don't agree with Kyle being on the top (nor do I agree with 48 being full of great players, because there was literally no real gameplay post-merge to see if there were great players).  I would've put him after Rachel and Dee, and probably after Maryanne, too.
