I do hope for Sai's sake she's not this insufferable in real life.

This is one season I would hope for a cast reunion to see if she's still batshit crazy.

Personally I’ve never thought of Sai as necessarily being “batshit crazy”* - more like she’s simply immature in that she has not yet realized the world and everyone/everything in it does not, in fact, revolve around her.

Although I have been wrong a time or two in the past - no, really!  😄

P.S. I acknowledge that both Chrissy and Cedrek suck. My issue is that people were accusing Cedrek of such things as "not having the mental acuity for the game" when a) there's not IMO evidence of that b) he's a surgeon so he has to have something going on upstairs and c) he actually did attempt to make some moves despite being stuck with a loser tribe.

I’ve yet to understand why anybody would think Cedrek’s (or anybody else’s for that matter) misunderstanding / mismanagement of social relationships would translate in any way to technical incompetence in his chosen profession - but sometimes the things people come up with are beyond me, so c’est la vie.  😁

If David's girlfriend dumped him for not winning the show I'm not exactly sure that's the kind of person you'd want to have in your life.  But sounds like he met someone else that he's happy with so hopefully that's a healthier relationship dynamic.

I was saying in the episode thread for the episode in which he said that his girlfriend would dump him if he doesn't win that they aren't compatible.  So it seems she dumped him within a month of learning he didn't win.  How did she know he didn't win?  I thought there were supposed to be confidentiality clauses and the contestants couldn't reveal any information at all about how they did on the show, even to family members.

Good riddance to her.  Sounds like he met somebody new, and it would have been before the show started airing so this new woman isn't picking him based on his TV fame.  Glad he is happy.

I’ve heard they can have people sign NDAs so they can talk about their experience with them.  Those people would be held to the same standards of confidentiality and could get on a lot of trouble if it was found out they told what happened.  I’m convinced that’s why some seasons are so spoiler heavy, though.  So that could be how she knew.

Similar to several others, I'm on the dislike train for David, but as a human being, no hate there.  I don't know the guy, that's one thing.  Plus, I'm in the mode of being okay if someone doesn't want to be with me or want me around.  If I'm in that position, that's good news.  No sense in wasting time in a polluted position.  Onto the next chapter.

I like two of the points brought up here:

Quote

Players like Saiounia Hughley and David Kinne were given a lot of confessionals and time on camera despite both being voted out. There has not been enough time in the edit for other players to shine. There was a pointless segment about how Kinne liked milk, and the pre-jury portion of Season 48 was so focused on Hughley and Vula that Survivor barely showed off the other tribes. Obviously, Vula spent the most time at tribal, and Hughley and Mary Zheng's rivalry was part of what made pre-jury so enjoyable, but this came at the expense of the other castaways.

And this one:

Quote

All that time with Vula also ultimately fell flat. The first episodes of Season 48 build up the back-and-forth between Hughley and Zheng and show how they are two sides of the same coin, culminating in the pair deciding to work together. However, the duo split up during the same episode, and Zheng was not even present to see Hughley leave. The edit spent too much time in pre-jury focusing on Vula and ignored other crucial and interesting characters, so now the audience does not know the players.

Because the edit did not allow the audience to get to know all the other castaways, some storylines come out of nowhere or change on a dime with no buildup. For example, during pre-merge, David Kinne was a great and honorable player who was social and an overall good guy. Then, suddenly, Kinne was the biggest villain of the season. Kinne's villain era was significant, but it felt like there was no lead-up, just a sudden heel turn that resulted in his elimination from the game.

The show focusing on the losing tribe is nothing new, and it’s why it’s frustrating when one tribe loses repeatedly that they eat up the air time because we have to focus on them and their dynamics.  With 90 minute episodes there’s really no reason why they can’t focus more equally on each tribe (they could do away with those journeys and that would free up more time even).  Or go back to two tribes.  New Era Survivor has gotten so stale in every way and it seems like they refuse to want to shake things up.  Instead they add things that take the strategy part out of the game even more.  And David campaigning to be the new spokesperson for the American Dairy Association didn’t need to get dragged out like it did (and I love milk, even though I have a slight intolerance to it).

I know there were people elsewhere who felt Sai couldn’t go when she did because she hadn’t met back up with Mary and there seemed to be unfinished business there.  I’d also say they seemed to be setting up a showdown with her and Cedrek, and they didn’t even attend the respective TC where the other person got voted off.  Mitch has been the star of so many episodes and last week there was nothing except him teaching Star some swimming moves in the sand.  It was weird how Mary just suddenly was brought into David’s fold (he says one thing but I was trying to figure out how she just suddenly was calling the shots).  I don’t know if the show finally realized viewers got wise to the edit and are trying to trip people up or if this season really had nothing to go on so they had to make things up as they went along.

'Survivor 48's Star Toomey Reveals Why She Gave the Idol to Eva – And Reacts to Being Targeted By Her (Exclusive)
Mike Bloom   May 1, 2025
https://parade.com/tv/star-toomey-survivor-48-eliminated-interview

Quote

You made a point to say that paranoia was a choice you were not subscribing to. And Mitch had told you to play your Shot in the Dark, something you even acknowledged at Tribal Council. So was there something done or said to really make you feel like you didn't have to play it?
So for me, the reason why I didn't play the Shot in the Dark is because I knew they were just trying to fish it out. And I'm like, "If I play this Shot of the Dark now, tomorrow, I'm definitely going home. This is the only thing I have left." Obviously, in my better judgment, I kind of hope that maybe some way, some how, Eva would have been like, "Jeff, I'm playing this for Star!" But that was in a daydream of mine a long, long, long, long time ago. And that's her game. I get it. But for me, I really, really, really thought that the numbers were on my side, and that's just because I'm a confident person. Sometimes it's to a fault.
*  *  *
So what was your reaction when you see last night that she's [Eva's] one of the main people pushing to get you out, despite you giving her the idol?
The more I watch, I'm like, "Girl, leave me alone! [Laughs.] Can't you say somebody else's name?!" Are we all okay with Mitch snoring here? You would rather have somebody snoring than me who don't snore – even if I do snore a little, but not as loud as Mitch. But the more I'm watching, I'm like, "Why do you keep saying my name?" But, in the same breath, I think Shauhin can also say the same thing, because his was the only name I ever said. So if my name was the only name Eva said, I'm honored. Because that means, some way, somehow, maybe she saw me as a threat. Or maybe she just really wanted to get rid of me, I don't know. But I don't know why she kept saying my name! I'm like, "Girl, I thought we were friends! We're supposed to be friends. Why did you say my name?" [Laughs.]

Reading Mary and Star’s exit interviews, it seems sad that their experience was less than pleasant and Star even seemed happy to get to Ponderosa where people were nice to her and wanted to talk to her.  I know she made some comments at the start of the season how she had no idea had hard her tribe was trying to get her out, how Thomas said they figured her idol clue out but wouldn’t help her, and that she wasn’t included on Lagi’s group chat once they got home.  I’m glad Sai apologized to Mary for her actions out there at least.  I do think Sai had a few reality checks during the game when she kept getting blindsided at the votes.  But it seems like the people who were trying to be nice, honest and full of integrity are full of it.

Jane Bright from Survivor Nicaragua has passed away.

Crap. I forgot her season. I figured she was a pre-merge boot until I read the article. She finished sixth AND won the Fan Favorite (pre-Sia) award. I remember NaOnka from that season, though. Nice to her to post her condolences.
