S06.E01: Season 6, Episode 1

No one particularly wants to imagine elderly people having sex.

as if PBS would allow it or Fellowes would/could write it .... Downton's audience got squicked out and recoiled in droves with Bates and Anna's wedding night as I recall ... no, rather we get old people being adorably embarrassed and uncomfortable talking about possible sex .. because happy faces the next morning (Bates and Anna) was radically daring (apparently -- he's so old, she looks like his daughter ... etc.)

I don't think ageism is ok anymore than racism is, I wish people wouldn't write "no one" when they clearly mean themselves.

Personally I would be happy to see gratuitous sex scenes (or even non!) be cut for ALL ages there's rarely anything the poor actors do feigning heavy breathing that isn't shown in scenes of romance. To me it's lazy writing no different than using profanity to signal anger rather than showing the characters anger like the unforgettable moment when Dustin Hoffman breaks the glass in the restaurant with Meryl Streep in "Kramer vs. kramer."

Best exotic marigold hotel and its sequel have elderly characters who are jealous, in love, starting new lives and its neither cutesy nor squicky.

I am not elderly. I just resent this bias.

For everything!!!

I agree, Lucindabelle.  There's plenty of porn for those who want it.   I do enjoy seeing sex scenes in the movie theaters and hear the gasping, tittering, and giggling of the (mostly) older women.  I recently saw "Youth" with a friend my age and she gasped because a 40-ish woman was nude floating in a pool at an exclusive Swiss spa.  Oh the horror!

Re:  Thomas, I prefer nice-ish Thomas to evil Thomas, but I'd like him to still have a little bite.

This.  Sometimes his snark is very amusing.

I still hate Edith, but she wasn't around enough to really bother me in this one.

I don't hate Edith, but she has certainly gotten on my last good nerve with Marigold and could she have chosen a more ridiculous name for that homely little girl?

Daisy should have been fired on the spot...

If for only being annoying and stupid.  I really can't stand that girl.

Still can't stand daisy. She's just so annoying. I want to punch her face in half the time she's on my screen. That's how much I dislike her.

Totally worth repeating.

The way they finally resolved the Bates murder plot felt like an inside joke, like the writers knew people were sick to death of that never-ending story.  The "you've got to be kidding us!" reaction to the first visit from the cop about there being a confession but it wasn't confirmed, followed by the "well it's about damn time!" reaction on the second visit seemed to be coming from both the characters and the actors, lol.
